Chance the Rapper Accuses Ex-Manager of Demanding Kickbacks, Exploiting Position in New Lawsuit
Chance the Rapper has filed a lawsuit against his former manager, Pat Corcoran, for allegedly exploiting his position, demanding kickbacks, and damaging the musician’s reputation, The Chicago Tribune reports.

The lawsuit was filed on February 19th in Cook County court in Illinois. It arrives about two months after Corcoran filed his own lawsuit that not only claimed Chance the Rapper — real name Chancelor Bennett — owed him $2.5 million in unpaid expenses and commissions, but that Chance’s highly anticipated 2019 debut album, The Big Day, was a rushed job, which led to poor reviews,

One Big Guardians of the Galaxy Fight Resulted in Marvel Admitting James Gunn Was Right

One Big Guardians of the Galaxy Fight Resulted in Marvel Admitting James Gunn Was Right
James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy films are filled with inspired casting choices, from the chubby guy from Parks and Rec playing the lead hero role, to Vin Diesel only saying a single sentence as Groot. Recently a fan asked Gunn on Twitter, "What's a decision you had to fight tooth and nail for on a movie? Like looking back you still wonder why did the studio fight so hard against it?", to which Gunn replied by naming the casting of Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer.

I’d say hiring @DaveBautista on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1. The first thing Kevin Feige told me after seeing the first cut is how right I was about him. https://t.co/Bl487SSekN

‘Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine’ Can’t Meet Its Own Ambition: TV Review
In trying to explain the man and phenomenon that is Tekashi 6ix9ine, Showtime’s new docuseries does its best to embody him.

Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine,” directed by Karam Gill, alternates between self-consciously shaggy found footage and slick, stylized interludes. Like its subject, “Supervillain” depends on social media to build itself up. It stitches together years of Instagram videos to paint its portrait of a man who deliberately transformed himself into rap’s most chaotic antagonist, with his rise reflected in his ballooning follower numbers. It interviews people from his inner circle, observers of his increasingly hyperbolic life and, sporadically, Tekashi 6x9ine himself in audio clips from the suburban safehouse he’s most recently called home. Throughout its three episodes — titled “Identity,” “Power” and “Truth” — the series interrupts itself for flashy stop motion explainers in which narrator Giancarlo Esposito breaks down the crucial elements that make a true supervillain,

It’s been a cold and dreary Covid winter, but Dionne Warwick has been making the days brighter. Vic Mensa Taps Chance the Rapper, Wyclef Jean for New Song ‘Shelter’
Vic Mensa has teamed up with Chance the Rapper and Wyclef Jean for a new song, “Shelter.”

The song is centered around a poignant guitar loop and finds the three artists tackling racial injustice and systemic inequality with righteous clarity. The song arrives with a fittingly eerie and surreal music video, directed by Andre Muir, in which bodies lie in rest on the street in a nod to the devastating impact Covid-19 has had on black communities.

“’Shelter’ is a spiritual note, a healing frequency,” Mensa said in a statement.

Vicarious Hollywood at Clive Davis’ 2021 Pre-Grammy Gala

Vicarious Hollywood at Clive Davis’ 2021 Pre-Grammy Gala
We have, by and large in this pandemic year, lost our grasp on time, tossing out heralded routines and watching some minutes skirt by while others seem to drag without end. And yet Clive Davis remains unperturbed. The 88-year-old music executive’s storied pre-Grammy bash, which he hosted Saturday night in virtual form, lasted a formidable five hours — almost as long as its in-person counterpart. Davis, however, swapped out the usual ballroom hors d’oeuvres, champagne flutes, and side-of-the-room gossip for a potpourri of at-home artist performances, interviews, and decades-spanning reminiscence.

Can Megan Thee Stallion hold off Doja Cat and Phoebe Bridgers to win Grammy for Best New Artist?

Can Megan Thee Stallion hold off Doja Cat and Phoebe Bridgers to win Grammy for Best New Artist?
The Grammy Award for Best New Artist is a push from the industry for their favorite up-and-coming musicians making waves. While some past winners have admittedly faded away, a lot went on to become decade-defining or even generation-defining artists, like The Beatles (1965), Mariah Carey (1991) and Adele (2009). Let’s see who’s in line this year to join this list of influential winners.

Seea tale of two Taylors: Two generations of singer-songwriters could win Grammys for Best Pop Album

One of the front-runners here is definitely rapper and internet sensation Megan Thee Stallion. Megan notched two number-one hits in 2020, including the three-time Grammy-nominated song “Savage” with Beyoncé. Not only that, but her debut studio album “Good News” debuted at number-two on the Billboard 200 albums chart, becoming her third top-10 effort after her mixtape “Fever” (2019) and EP “Suga” (2020). Megan has also received acclaim for her confident lyrics and music, with “Wap” and

Travis Scott and Ludwig Goransson Talk About ‘The Plan,’ the Time-Warping Song and Sound of ‘Tenet’

Travis Scott and Ludwig Goransson Talk About ‘The Plan,’ the Time-Warping Song and Sound of ‘Tenet’
Filmed in exotic locations ranging from India and Norway to Italy’s sun-kissed Mediterranean coast, Christopher Nolan’s reality-warping film “Tenet” looks like it was a lot of fun to be an actor in.

However, creating the music to accompany it was clearly no yacht cruise. What kind of music evokes a world where (spoiler alert) the characters can experience reality both backward and forward, receive messages from the future, and encounter themselves and others in the present and the past?

Nolan decided very early in the film’s production that the person he wanted to handle the score was Swedish-born Ludwig Goransson, who not only won an Oscar for his work on the 2018 Chadwick Boseman-starring “Black Panther” but also won Grammys for his work on that film as well as his production on Childish Gambino’s “This Is America,” one of many songs the two have collaborated on.

Cardi B Lands First Starring Movie Role in Paramount Comedy ‘Assisted Living’ (Exclusive)
Cardi B has scored her first leading role in a movie. The hip-hop icon is set to star in Paramount’s upcoming film “Assisted Living.”

“Assisted Living” is being described as a “raucous comedy” with “tremendous heart,” in the vein of classic funny films like “Tootsie,” “Sister Act” and “Mrs. Doubtfire.” It follows Amber (Cardi B), a small-time crook who finds herself in over her head when a heist goes wrong. On the run from the cops and her former crew, she struggles to find anywhere to hide. Running out of options, Amber disguises herself as an elderly woman and hides out in the one place no one will look — her estranged grandmother’s nursing home.

Paramount won rights to “Assisted Living” in a competitive bidding war in spring of 2019. The film is based on an original spec script by Kay Oyegun, a writer for “This Is Us.” Temple Hill and Stephen Love are producing.

Roku Acquires Global Rights to 75-Plus Quibi Shows, Will Stream Them for Free

Roku Acquires Global Rights to 75-Plus Quibi Shows, Will Stream Them for Free
Roku snapped up the rights to the majority of Quibi’s multimillion-dollar portfolio original programming — more than 75 shows in all — and will make them available free to stream in 2021 on the Roku Channel.

Following Quibi’s decision last October to shut down after failing to attract a sustainable base of subscribers, Roku acquired Quibi Holdings LLC, the company that holds all of Quibi’s content distribution rights.

Financial terms of the pact were not disclosed. A source familiar with the agreement said Roku is paying “significantly” less than $100 million for the Quibi library, confirming an earlier Wall Street Journal report. Rob Holmes, Roku’s VP of programming, said in an interview, “We do think this deal represents a great value.”

“Fundamentally, we think that Quibi has created great, high-quality content,” Holmes told Variety. “It’s a great value proposition for our users… We’re pivoting from Quibi’s SVOD model to an ad-supported model,

Guardians of the Galaxy Got Chris Pratt in the Bad Habit of Making Pew-Pew Noises While Filming

Guardians of the Galaxy Got Chris Pratt in the Bad Habit of Making Pew-Pew Noises While Filming
The MCU has a knack for picking the perfect actors to play the leads in their movies. In keeping with that trend, the casting of Chris Pratt in the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord by James Gunn in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise seems like a match made in heaven. Yet, while Pratt excels at playing the role of the quippy, intergalactic bounty hunter, Gunn recently revealed on Twitter that the actor has one hilariously bad habit while filming.

When @prattprattpratt fires space guns he literally - and this is no joke - accidentally makes “pew pew” sounds until I point out he’s doing it. I’m not sure if this is in the moment or insane, but it’s one of my favorite things. https://t.co/Hivdzd6er4

James Gunn Answers Chance the Rapper's Question: Why Is Dave Bautista Such a Good Actor?
Chance the Rapper recently asked on Twitter whether there was a specific reason why Dave Bautista is such a good actor. Filmmaker James Gunn, who directed the wrestler-turned-actor in the role of Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, posted a lengthy Twitter thread explaining what makes Bautista such an effective actor.

Bc @DaveBautista takes the craft seriously. He’s grounded in real emotion & not showy. The difference between Dave & many wrestler-actors is when you look in his eyes on set he’s in the place he’s supposed to be, not thinking about what he’s going to do next.
