The 2023-24 NBA schedule will begin Tuesday, October 24, as LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers visit the defending champion Denver Nuggets.
It’s an interesting year for the NBA, as it marks the first time an in-season tournament will spice up the early schedule. Modeled after similar tournaments in European soccer, the NBA Cup begins on November 3, when the Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo host the New York Knicks and Jalen Brunson.
The NBA Cup offers players on the winning team $500,000 each.
Another opening-week highlight will be the highly-anticipated regular season debut of San Antonio Spurs rookie and No. 1 draft choice Victor Wembanyama, who will play the Dallas Mavericks on October 25.
Christmas Day will have five games on tap including the Milwaukee Bucks at the New York Knicks, followed by Golden State at Denver, and the Boston Celtics at the Lakers. The Philadelphia 76ers are at the Miami Heat,...

Striking writers in New York made a bid on Monday to disrupt work on American Horror Story by picketing outside a production facility in Queens where the popular FX series known for its macabre plot lines and star-studded casts is filming season 12.
Members of the WGA East, joined by members of SAG and other supporters of the strike against film and television studios, said they began arriving at Silvercup Studios at 5am, about two hours before members of the stagehands union, Queens-based IATSE Local 52, who then refused to cross the picket line.
The effect on the show, which stars Emma Roberts and Kim Kardashian, was unclear. A WGA representative told Deadline that demonstrators caused filming delays on Monday for AHS, but sources close to the production told us that while some crew members were held up briefly at the picket lines, the horror drama never fully stopped production and...

Chiney Ogwumike has big plans after striking a new deal with ESPN that extends her stay there and is certain to expand her presence.
The 6′ 4″ Los Angeles Sparks forward is gearing up to start calling NBA games for ESPN, adding to her regular presence on “NBA Today” and “NBA Countdown.” She has many other duties, including a thriving career in the WNBA, where she was the first overall pick in the 2014 WNBA Draft from Stanford University, and the 2014 WNBA Rookie of the Year and a two-time WNBA All-Star. Malika Andrews is capping off a quick journey that has taken her from the sidelines of NBA games to a central seat at many of its big events.
The sportscaster is taking over the host duties of ESPN’s NBA Draft, succeeding Rece Davis, who led the broadcast for more than a decade. In doing so, Andrews cements her status as one of ESPN’s mainstay journalists, having been awarded hosting duties on “NBA Today” in 2021.
The June 23 Draft broadcast, emanating from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, will top off Andrews’ busy schedule in weeks ahead. She will also host the NBA Draft Lottery telecast this evening at 8 p.m. on ESPN, prior to Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. She also hosts “NBA Today” from the NBA Draft Combine at 3 p.m. on ESPN during the week of May 16. NBA Today will air on site at the NBA Draft on June 23 as well.

‘Love is Blind: After the Altar’ to Reunite Season 1 Cast for July Reunion Special (TV News Roundup)
The original quarantine couples are back. “Love is Blind: After the Altar,” and three-episode special followup to “Love is Blind,” will premiere July 28 on Netflix.
“Love is Blind: After the Alter” brings back Season 1 fan favorites as they prepare for a two-year anniversary party for the Hamiltons and the Barnetts, the two couples to successfully make it down the aisle during the “Love is Blind” experiment. Ahead of the party, audiences will get to catch up with the cast as they settle back into their daily lives in Atlanta, Ga. When the show ended, some singles left with a sour taste in their mouth about the experiment’s outcomes, so there is no doubt there will be drama and surprise appearances.
“When we get the group together, it’s always a fun time,” Cameron Hamilton assures in the trailer, which you can watch below.

Warner Bros. and HBO Max have released the first trailer for “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” the sequel to the blockbuster 1996 comedy that featured NBA superstars alongside Looney Tunes characters. Stepping into Michael Jordan’s kicks this time around is LeBron James, who spearheaded the title’s return under his production company SpringHill Entertainment. Though he played a comedic role in Amy Schumer’s “Trainwreck,” “Space Jam 2” marks his first foray into leading man territory, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself in the live-action/animated sports comedy.
“Girls Trip” director Malcolm D. Lee is helming the production after taking over from “Random Acts of Flyness” creator Terence Nance. One of the nation’s most colorful sports advertisers says it plans to launch its own sports-talk show because consumers are growing wary of the commercials that have helped it capture so much attention over the decades.
Anheuser-Busch and Panay Films will launch “Not A Sports Show,” a six-episode series that features host and comedian Lil Rel Howery chatting with athletes like former Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce, snowboarder Shaun White and Los Angeles Sparks WNBA player Chiney Ogwumike. The program can be watched via Ficto, a free streaming-video service. The show will not be interrupted with beer ads, but the host and his guests hash things out at a bar filled with dozens of A-b beverages, and even drink some of them as their conversations progress. The show, produced with Stampede Entertainment, is slated to debut March 25, with new episodes surfacing Thursdays in April.

ESPN said it would cancel its flagship morning radio program, “Golic & WIngo,” while bringing Mike Greenberg, half of the team that helped the Disney sports-media giant carve a bigger business in the audio world, back to the medium as part of a reworking of its national lineup.
Greenberg, who spent 17 years with co-host Mike Golic on the morning radio program “Mike & Mike,” will keep his duties on the ESPN mid-morning TV program, “Get Up,” which he has helped anchor since the Spring of 2018. But he will also lead a new two-hour radio show that airs between noon and 2 p.m. weekdays. His former partner, Mike Golic will leave mornings along with Trey Wingo. The pair has hosted their program since November of 2017.

ESPN’s next potential superstar hasn’t thrown fancy passes on the field, and isn’t known for his prowess on the court, at the rink, in the ring or even on the track.
Omar Raja’s game is figuring out how to get sports fans chatting about, liking and passing along the video clips he makes of top athletes and plays. And that may be the skill most in demand at ESPN – and perhaps the TV industry at large – in a future likely to be dominated by new video-watching behaviors.
The 25-year-old’s home ground is Instagram, where he founded the House of Highlights account and parlayed it into one of the biggest new fonts of sports commentary in the business today. His prowess with viral video, originally with basketball clips, led WarnerMedia’s Bleacher Report to hire him. The House of Highlights account these days has 15.4 million followers.

Space Jam 2 has had a long road to production. The movie has already had a few hiccups along the way, but it looks like the LeBron James production has hit another snag. The director of the film, Terence Nance, has exited the film and according to Deadline, he’s been replaced with Malcolm D. Lee.
According to the report, Nance ended up stepping away because the studio and producers had different takes on the creative vision for the film. It’s funny, you think this is something they would have figured out before they started shooting the movie. I’m sure there’s more behind the scenes drama going on that no one is talking about.
We don’t know anything about the story for the film, but Star Trek: Discovery's Sonequa Martin-Green was previously cast as LeBron's wife. It’s also said that there’s a best...

Don Cheadle, who we recently saw in action in Avengers: Endgame as War Machine, has joined the cast of LeBron James’ Space Jam 2. Everyone loves Don Cheadle so it’s pretty cool that he’s joining the project. He’ll make a great addition to the cast.
There are no details on who Cheadle is playing in the movie, so we’ll just have to wait and see how things play out. The actor will join the previously cast Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery) who will play LeBron's wife in the story. It’s also said that there’s a best friend character in the film named Malik, “modeled after Maverick Carter, LeBron's childhood buddy and producing partner in SpringHill.”
We also know that NBA players Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, and Klay Thompson will appear in the film along with Wnba stars Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumike. Several more NBA and Wnba players,...

Man this really just hit me! I’m really shooting Space Jam 2!! This is so surreal and doesn’t even make sense to me! Where I come from man and what I saw growing up this doesn’t add up to me!

ESPN’s newest game starts hours, even days, before any team steps onto the field of play.
The Disney-owned sports-media giant heads this weekend into a massive round of live broadcasts across its flagship cable outlet, ESPN2, Espnu, the broadband service ESPN+ and ABC that will showcase everything from the NBA Playoffs to Ufc and Top Rank Boxing matches to a Mexico-based Major League Baseball game. But the kickoff for events like these is starting earlier than ever for producers and analysts.
“It’s not just that we want to be in your life at 8 p.m. before the game comes on at 8:15,” says Connor Schell, executive vice president of content at ESPN, in a recent interview at the network’s New York offices. Through use of digital media, he says, producers are working to start conversations about sports events days and even weeks before they take place...
