While fans of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of season 2 Here) patiently wait to see the bonus episode that’s going to air sometime between the second and third seasons, showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco have let it be known that season 3 – which was, of course, greatly delayed by the strikes that hit the entertainment industry last year – is finally going to start filming in May, aiming for an early 2025 premiere!
Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis star in Yellowjackets, which is is described as “equal parts survival epic, horror story, and coming-of-age drama.” The story centers on a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness. While fans of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of season 2 Here) patiently wait to see the bonus episode that’s going to air sometime between the second and third seasons, showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco have confirmed that they and the writers that populate the show’s writing room are deep into the writing process on Yellowjackets season 3.
The show’s writers had already assembled to work on the next batch of episodes when the Writers Guild strike hit at the start of May – and that strike kept the development of season 3 on hold through the end of September. During a Q&a for SAG-AFTRA nomination committee members last night, Lyle said (as reported by Variety), “We’re deep in the writing. (Once the writers strike ended) everybody came back so incredibly enthusiastic, raring to go and creatively invigorated. We’re having so much fun...

The Flash arrived on the CW as an antidote to the heavy, bleak world of Arrow. Our Scarlet Speedster was going to be a bright, upbeat superhero series and it was—at first. With each successive season, it grew bleaker and more chaotic as an overstuffed cast all demanded screentime and the writing staff never seemed to grasp that there were other villains than those connected to the Speed Force.
The 2022-23 television season brought us The Flash’s ninth and final season, providing a chance to give closure to the core characters. Tomorrow, Warner Home Entertainment releases The Flash: The Complete Ninth and Final Season.
Across the truncated season, everyone had a moment to shine, get their due, take a bow and move aside so the Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Nora West Allen (Candice Patton) center got to have the last word as they finally welcomed Nora to the preset.

Yes, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) confirmed he’s had “a bit of both” on his self-titled Disney+ series, but besides the gender-fluid demi-god, the only canonically gay character in the MCU is Bryan Tyree Henry’s Phastos in “Eternals.” Marvel and DC may not have fully embraced queer characters: but a number of actors playing superheroes are absolutely part of the LGBTQ community.
Here’s some openly out thespians who’ve donned a cape — and looked fabulous doing it.
Angelina Jolie, Thena in “Eternals”
Jolie became part of the MCU in this 2021 all-star film as the nearly invincible Thena. She was previously married to Jonny Lee Miller, Billy Bob Thornton and Brad Pitt, but has always been open about dating women as well, as she told Barbara Walters in 2003.
Tessa Thompson, Valkyrie in “Thor: Ragnarok”
Thompson rocked her role of Valkyrie so hard in “Thor: Ragnarok” that the character ended up becoming the King of Asgard.

In a time when anti-lgbtq+ legislation is on a historic rise and discriminatory rhetoric is normalized by politicians and news media figures the world over, onscreen representation matters more than ever. In celebration of Pride month and in the lead-up to Emmys 2023, TheWrap saluted these seven performers who are fighting for LGBTQ+ equality through their work on the small screen.

This week on TheWrap-Up podcast, TheWrap founder and editor-in-chief Sharon Waxman spoke with Bridget Everett, star of the HBO comedy series “Somebody Somewhere.”
The discussion begins in Manhattan, Kansas, not only the birthplace of Everett but the setting for the HBO series in which she plays Sam, a woman trying to find happiness in the wake of her sister’s death.
“My childhood was a lot different, a lot of the people I grew up with who I’m still friends with were all church, family, faith, football on weekends,” Everett said of how the show’s portrayal of Manhattan life compares to her upbringing. “It was largely sort of a straight, heteronormative vibe back in the ‘70s and ‘80s.”
That said, when she met with creators Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen about working on something together at HBO, they pitched a number of elements that resonated deeply with Everett.

Solutions start in the writers’ room. That’s what seven LGBTQ actors from diverse ethnic and gender identities agreed upon during TheWrap’s Pride month roundtable, in which we invited the performers to share their experiences as queer talent in Hollywood.
“What We Do in the Shadows” actor Harvey Guillén recalled times he had to help accurately translate Spanish dialogue because there were no Mexican writers on his production. “Reservation Dogs” writer, actor and director Devery Jacobs, who identifies as indigenous and queer, said she got her “ass into the writers room since I was that annoying actor with so many notes.”

It’s the end of TV as we know it and we feel fine? Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to discuss a handful of finales — series and season — that have unfolded in the final days of the Emmy eligibility. Which burnished their Emmy chances? And does it even matter if they came up short? Spoilers, obviously, abound.
On the drama side, “Succession” closed out its fourth and final season with a devastating whopper of a series finale that saw Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) be named CEO of Waystar Royco and the three sibs, Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Shiv (Sarah Snook), get all their hopes and dreams crushed — Kendall especially. Strong came in, uh, strong in the final 88 minutes. Is he back in the driver’s seat in the drama actor race? There were no deaths on “Succession,” as was predicted by some,...

Season 2 of Showtime's buzzy horror series "Yellowjackets" has delivered its share of surprises. We've witnessed heartbreaking deaths, teenage blackmail, musical dream sequences, and a devastating delivery. However, the most stunning development of all this season marks the survivors' long-awaited entry into the taboo world of cannibalism. The season begins with a starving Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) popping a severed ear into her mouth, followed by a moonlit feast of human flesh. Another gruesome act of cannibalism bookends the season in a thrilling finale featuring blood, fire, and a newly anointed Antler Queen.
After watching Javi (Luciano Leroux) die in the frozen lake, the girls bring his body back to camp and prepare for their next meal. Lottie (Courtney Eaton) descends from her sick bed and gives up control of the group, pointing to Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) as the next leader. The team signals their allegiance one by one, but her coronation joy is short-lived.

Spoilers for "Yellowjackets" follow.
My favorite "Yellowjackets" character is Natalie Scatorccio (Sophie Thatcher/Juliette Lewis), the most grounded, no-bs of the 1996 plane crash survivors and seemingly the group's conscience. I've written before that she is the series' heart and soul, but after the season 2 finale — "Storytelling" — I realized that I hadn't considered if Natalie herself would agree with that description.
In "Storytelling," Natalie says in both past and present that she doesn't see herself as a good person. We already knew that she accidentally caused her abusive father to shoot himself when she was younger. Season 2, episode 8 —"It Chooses" — reveals that she let Javi (Luciano Leroux) drown to save herself from ritual sacrifice, exacerbating her survivor's guilt.
Most "Yellowjackets" fans, myself included, thought this would be the last straw for Nat. Some theorized that the survivors were ultimately rescued because she left them in disgust, made it back to civilization,...

"Yellowjackets" is the type of show that's able to elicit a half-dozen different emotions from viewers in the span of just a few minutes. One second, you can be laughing at Jeff (Warren Kole) as he laments that he won't be able to Google himself anymore if he goes on the run, and the next you can be gasping over Kevyn's (Alex Wyndham) death. The show is often scary, funny, and often deeply emotional, but arguably no episode has been more downright heartbreaking than last night's finale.
The hour saw multiple deaths, losses, and changes of fortune for the Yellowjackets, from the aforementioned poisoning of Kevyn to the fire that engulfed the hunting lodge to the crowning of teen Natalie as the new antler queen. Decades later, though, we also saw grown-up Natalie (Juliette Lewis) meet her end, as she...

This post contains spoilers for the season 2 finale of "Yellowjackets."
After a season of bloodshed, drama, and some excellent dark humor, the sophomore season of "Yellowjackets" drew to a close last night with an extremely bittersweet twist. In the present day, the crash survivors gathered on Lottie's (Simone Kessell) compound for a night that started as a quasi-intervention and quickly descended into ritualistic violence. In the end, Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) drew the queen card that marked her as the women's prey, but it was Natalie (Juliette Lewis) who died when she jumped in front of Lisa (Nicole Maines) to save her from Misty's (Christina Ricci) syringe.
Nat's fate is heartbreaking, compounded by the show's existentially frightening vision of an afterlife where she sits on a nearly-empty plane beside the boy she couldn't save and the girl she once was. At the same time, though, we learn that before Nat lost everything,...

The Season 2 finale of “Yellowjackets” left us with dropped jaws — and a lot of questions. We still don’t know who “pit girl” is, but we did see how things escalate to the point where the survivors began hunting each other to stay alive.
Although, as creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson told TheWrap before the Season 2 premiere, not every question will be answered. Said Nickerson, when asked if he minded the comparisons to the often frustrating “Lost”: “I don’t always want everything to be answered. Like, I do and I don’t, because so much of what made ‘Lost’ so engrossing was the mystery, not just the mystery of what happened, but the sort of reclamation of the spookiness of being alive. You can’t give all the answers and maintain that spookiness.”
With that in mind, here are some of the most pressing issues that still need to be answered.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 2 Episode 9, “Storytelling.”]
Long ago, in the quaint winter of 2022, Lottie (Courtney Eaton) killed a bear and offered its heart up as sacrifice to the wilderness on “Yellowjackets.” She told her friends to spill blood and said “let the darkness let us free.”
That is decidedly not what happened.
Despite Lottie’s best efforts in both past and present, “darkness” (also known as savagery and trauma) fully cloaks the stranded teens of the series, following them well into their tormented adult lives. In a season that has gone from bad to worse, “Storytelling” is the definitive destruction of hope, light, and sanctuary.
After languishing for most of the season — or at least moving conspicuously slower than the parallel ’90s flashback — the present-day timeline steers most of the action in “Storytelling,” written by Ameni Rozsa and directed by Karyn Kusama. Every character and storyline converges at Lottie’s (Simone Kessell) forest compound,...

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe was busy changing the way Hollywood studios approach their biggest franchises (and all which that implies), The CW and DC were off making TV history with the Arrowverse. Much like the House of Ideas' multimedia superhero property, the Arrowverse was all over the place in terms of its quality and success. Certain killjoys would tell you its flagship series went on for way too long, while others would blame its limited resources and financing for preventing it from truly doing justice to the epic comic book arcs it adapted.
Overall, though, the Arrowverse was a daring experiment in the best way. That's why we're hitting the pause button and reflecting on its legacy before DC Studios head honchos James Gunn and Peter Safran usher in their shiny-new unified vision for all things DC-related.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from “Storytelling,” the Season 2 finale of “Yellowjackets,” now streaming on Showtime.
The second season of “Yellowjackets” has come to a dark and twisted end. In the 1996 timeline, teen Lottie (Courtney Eaton) handed over the role of leader of the wilderness to Natalie (Sophie Thatcher), as all the young girls bowed to her, confirming she was, in fact, the Antler Queen. However, the celebration was cut short as a fire sparked in the middle of the night. While everyone escaped, the group was left standing outside in the snow, watching flames encapsulate their home.
In the present timeline, the group once again drew cards to see who the wilderness wanted — an idea suggested by Lottie (Simone Kessell). Before they performed this old ritual, Natalie (Juliette Lewis) warned the rest of the residents to leave, including Lisa (Nicole Maines), to whom she had grown close throughout...

[This story contains major spoilers to the season two finale of Yellowjackets, “Storytelling.”]
Sophie Thatcher is relieved that the season two finale of Yellowjackets has landed. It’s been buzzing around in her head for quite some time, and the double-whammy ending for the character of Natalie wasn’t an easy secret to keep. So, she told a couple of her friends.
“They made a big deal out of it but I was like, ‘You can’t tell anybody!'” she told The Hollywood Reporter, speaking shortly before the May 25 episode released. When asked which spoiler she shared — the one for teen or adult Nat — Thatcher says both: “It’s in a package to me.”
Thatcher plays Natalie Scatorccio, who is affectionately known as Nat, in the 1996 wilderness timeline of the hit Showtime series. In the penultimate episode, her character made the fateful decision to let Javi (Luciano Leroux) die in her place after she had pulled the Queen of Hearts; the young survivors,...

Episode six of “Yellowjackets” Season 2, “Qui,” makes for one of the most significant “do not miss” episodes of television this year. Now firmly into the back half of the second season, “Qui” takes massive strides in converging plotlines in the present while wreaking utter emotional devastation in the past. More impressive is the way this episode serves as a showcase for powerhouse performances across the ensemble cast.
“Qui” resumes the terrible timing of teen Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) going into labor. The good news is that the complete inexperience, shock, and anxiety over bringing a baby into this world primarily unites the group as they frantically try to help Shauna. The bad news is that they depended on Misty (Samantha Hanratty) to act as a midwife, but the first sign of blood sends her reeling over her accidental murder of Crystal (Nuha Jes Izman). The volume of blood Shauna’s losing worries everyone,...

After a week off the air, "Yellowjackets" returns with everyone's favorite high school memory — underfunded and poorly executed sex ed! The girls are learning about "the miracle of life" from an old tape being played by Coach Ben because it's the 1990s so of course an athletic coach or gym teacher is also tasked with educating how babies are made.
A shock to no one, Randy is the class clown who can't resist making comments about the man in the video having a small peen, because there's nothing gayer than a straight man's comedic discomfort about nude men. Van rightfully shoves her entire hand in a condom to prove that Randy's claims they're "too small for him" is total B.S. and Misty is hushing everyone for talking because of course she is. Jeff passes a note to Shauna in class,...

Episode four of “Yellowjackets” Season 2, “Old Wounds,” picks up with both teen and adult Tai regaining control and consciousness. In the present, it sends Tai running for the only person she knows will understand, while the past sees Tai in denial as her strange trances begin to drive a wedge in her relationship with Van (Liv Hewson). The slow formation of dividing lines extends beyond Tai and Van, becoming the running theme of the episode.
In the past timeline, Coach Ben (Steven Krueger) finally vocalizes his disgust over the girls’ act of cannibalism. It’s the spark that emboldens Lottie’s (Courtney Eaton) followers, sowing dissension among the ranks. When Nat (Sophie Thatcher) gets accused of not pulling her weight as the group’s hunter, it sparks a dangerous bet on who’s the better leader/provider: Lottie for her otherworldly mysticism or Nat and her pragmatic nature. The wilderness...

This article contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" season 2.
While the promise of mysteries, criminal activity, cannibalism, and a story of survival may have gotten most "Yellowjackets" viewers in the door, it has been the complex, fascinating characters that keep folks coming back each week. The major characters of Shauna, Taissa, Natalie, Misty, Lottie, and Van have given us two different timelines to become our beloved favorites, but there are plenty of supporting characters that audiences can't get enough of, and I'm not just talking about their teammates in the cabin.
It's sincerely impressive that "Yellowjackets," a show that prioritizes the stories of women above all else, managed to make a legion of fans (many of whom are queer) become obsessively protective of Shauna's himbo wifeguy Jeff (Warren Kole). And of course, who could forget the consistent comedic relief that comes from a character like Randy (Jeff Holman), the words of wisdom...

[This story contains major spoilers from the fourth episode of Yellowjackets season two, “Old Wounds.”]
In the latest episode of Yellowjackets, there’s an argument over divine intervention or coincidence in the 1996 storyline. The Yellowjackets soccer team and their fellow survivors are starving in the wilderness, and they argue over young Lottie’s (Courtney Eaton) role in the game that has — and hasn’t — materialized in order for them to be able to eat and survive winter.
The teammates who believe that Lottie has developed some sort of powers during their time out in the wilderness argue that the bear and flock of birds that showed up at their cabin door were fateful occurrences, brought on by their newfound spiritual leader and her blood sacrifices. The dissenters to Divine Lottie counter that those events were coincidences, and balk at the opinion that Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) and Travis (Kevin Alves) can’t find any meat because they won’t let Lottie “bless” their hunts.

As The Flash hit the midpoint of its final season, a visit from Nia Nal aka Dreamer brought much drama, but also some updates on Supergirl and a few of her superfriends.
For starters — and as set up during Ryan Wilder aka Batwoman’s recent visit to Central City — Nia (played by Supergirl‘s Nicole Maines) showing up unannounced at Central City Citizen Media to ask Iris for help wasn’t entirely random. Because apparently, Iris took Ryan up on her offer and recently — albeit off-screen, grrr — joined Ryan, Nia, Kara Danvers/Supergirl and her sister Alex/Sentinel for mimosa brunch.

The following contains The Flash spoilers
The Flash Season 9 Episode 7
Although we’re well into The Flash’s final season, the show appears to be taking a breather before gearing up for its last run (pun absolutely intended) with a handful of what showrunner Eric Wallace likes to call “interludes,” quieter installments that tend to focus on smaller stories or highlight the show’s supporting characters. “Wildest Dreams” isn’t an hour that necessarily moves the plot of the season forward all that much—though it does touch once again on Iris’ emotional discomfort with the idea of her future being a set path that doesn’t allow her to make her own choices—but it’s a great example of the deft interconnectivity that has always been a hallmark of The CW’s Arrowverse.
With The Flash concluding with season 9 and the futures of shows like Superman & Lois uncertain,...

It was so exciting when this was announced back in December. How was it for you to step back into… well, I’m guessing you stepped back into the costume, right? Nicole Maines: Yeah, it was. The previous record holder was Dexter: New Blood. Showtime also let it be known that this was the best season 2 premiere for them in more than 10 years and nearly double the series premiere audience. Season 2 of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of the new season Here) is scheduled to begin airing on Showtime on March 26th, but fans can also catch the first episode of season 2 streaming and On Demand as of today. As we head into the second season, Showtime has unveiled two cool pieces of marketing that’s very fitting for a show that partially takes place in 1996: a ’90s-style MTV News video (complete with Kurt Loder!) that covers the news of the disappearance of the titular Yellowjackets, and directs viewers to a ’90s-style website, WhereAretheYellowjackets.com. If you were watching MTV or surfing the web back in the ’90s, these marketing materials will definitely press your nostalgia buttons. The MTV News video can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Review: Yellowjackets was one of the bigger surprises on television last year. A blend of Mean Girls and Lord of the Flies, the Showtime survival/thriller series had a solid cast and built buzz over its bloody first season, securing a second season renewal after airing just five episodes. “L’Immensità,” the 1967 hit made famous by Don Backy and Johnny Dorelli, has the kind of lyrics that can make you cry just by reading them: “I am sure that in this great immensity/ someone thinks a little of me/ will not forget me./ Yes, I know it,/ all my life I won’t always be alone.”
It’s no wonder that the Italian filmmaker Emanuele Crialese (“Terraferma”) named his latest film after the song. “L’Immensità,” which Crialese co-wrote with Francesca Ranieri and Vittorio Moroni, is an aching and sumptuous ode to growing up and chafing against expectations. Making its North American premiere at Sundance after debuting in Venice, this is a film about adolescence and regression, defiance and surrender. By showing the tangled relationship between a mother and her dysphoric child, “L’Immensità” writes a love letter to the lonely.

Bow before the Antler Queen, if you dare.
Since the jaw-dropping Season 1 finale for “Yellowjackets” last year, Showtime fans have been clamoring to untangle more of the decades-spanning mysteries as part of the teen cannibal series. Did adult Lottie, now played by Simone Kessell, kidnap Natalie (Juliette Lewis)? What does adult Van (Lauren Ambrose) now have to do with Lottie’s murderous dark spirit plot? We're still a few months away from the premiere of season 2 of the hit series "Yellowjackets," but there's still plenty to be excited about. Christina Ricci, who stars as the adult version of the criminally (and possibly) insane Misty Quigley, has already said the season will be even more shocking than the first. It's a big claim, especially when you consider the first season was an introduction to a high school soccer team who may or may not have eaten one another in acts of ritualistic sacrifice.
In addition to Ricci, "Yellowjackets" boasts an incredible leading cast including Emmy nominee and Critics Choice Award winner Melanie Lynskey, Oscar and Emmy nominee Juliette Lewis, and "Unforgettable" star Tawny Cypress.
It was previously announced that Lauren Ambrose and Simone Kessell ("Obi-Wan Kenobi") had joined the show as series regulars, in addition to Elijah Wood (He's Elijah Wood) in a guest arc as one of the Citizen Detectives,...
