After the roughly 15 years that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has existed as a franchise, it feels like the studio's movies can be neatly summarized into a few groups. You have your reliable crowd-pleasers and buzzy crossovers -- 2012's "The Avengers," "Infinity War" and Endgame," "Spider-Man: No Way Home," and the like -- that deliver more or less what audiences expected, offering something for everyone and raking in historic box office profits as a result. Then there are the polarizing ones, movies like "Iron Man 3" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," all of which alienated certain segments of the fandom because of controversial creative choices made by strong-willed directors who were never going to completely toe the company line.
But there's an even more interesting category of MCU film that feels like a perfect amalgamation of both. James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy...

"The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" was a revolutionary show that not only introduced us to new characters, but gave new roles to characters we already know and love. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) left being the Falcon behind in order to become the first Black Captain America. Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) was finally able to overcome his demons and forge a new friendship with Sam, akin to the one he had with Steve Rogers. Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) become an anti-hero of sorts, working with Sam and Bucky in order to stop the terrorist group known as the Flag Smashers. Sharon Carter...

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is breaking some new ground for Marvel, but it's also following some of the beloved traditions of the Marvel universe. Case in point: Shang-Chi has not one, but two post-credits scenes, both of which lay out tantalizing hints about where the story might go next. If you've already seen the movie, keep reading to unpack these two scenes along with us!
What Happens in the Mid-Credits Scene of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings?
The first post-credits scene is really a mid-credits scene, and it's essentially a mini-epilogue for the movie itself. Picking up where the end of the movie leaves off, the scene shows Shang-Chi (played by Simu Liu) and Katy (played by Awkwafina) going with Wong (played by Benedict Wong) to the New York Sanctum, best known to Marvel fans as the home of Doctor Strange. Wong starts...

Even with the Covid-19 pandemic raging on in the U.S., the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to have its busiest year ever with four movies and a half-dozen TV seasons. Next up is “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” the first new origin movie for the MCU in the post-“Avengers: Endgame” phase.
While this is an all-new character in an all-new story, it’s certainly got its share of pretty clear connections to the rest of the MCU, with Wong from “Doctor Strange” playing a part, alongside a beefy callback to “Iron Man 3.” But for the most part what we’re getting here is a lot of new wrinkles for the greater franchise. Most of which we don’t really know the significance of just yet.

Emily VanCamp has departed Fox’s medical drama “The Resident” after 4 seasons as a series regular, TheWrap has confirmed.
The actress portrayed Nicolette “Nic” Nevin, a nurse practitioner married to Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry), the titular “resident” at the fictional Chastain Park Memorial Hospital.
In the Season 4 finale, Nic gives birth to her and Conrad’s daughter Georgiana Grace Hawkins. But it doesn’t appear the new family will celebrate for long. Nic’s fate is teased in a promo for Season 5, when two officers show up at the Hawkins home with what appears to be bad news.

The Resident is losing its leading lady.
Per Deadline, Emily VanCamp is checking out of the Fox medical drama after four seasons in the role of Nic Nevin.
The outlet states that VanCamp asked to be released from her contract at the end of The Resident Season 4.
There was a desire for the actress to come back in a guest-starring role to wrap up her character's arc, but it did not work out.
With no indication about how the character will be written out, fans have already been questioning what the recently released promo means.
The promo shows a lot of intense drama for the characters, and there are even hints that the show could be giving Nic a permanent exit by the way of death.
VanCamp revealed last week that she and her husband, Josh Bowman, had welcomed their first child, Iris.

Emily VanCamp is leaving Fox’s medical drama “The Resident” after starring on the show as nurse Nicolette ‘Nic’ Nevin for four seasons.
There is hope that VanCamp returns to the series in some fashion, sources tell Variety. Season 5 of the series debuts on September 21, and a brand new promo released on Monday features plenty of peril and a conspicuous lack of VanCamp.

Emily VanCamp has departed Fox’s popular medical drama The Resident after four seasons as a series regular and the female lead.
I hear the actress asked to be released from the show at the end of last season. There was an effort to bring her back in Season 5 — something she was reportedly open to — but it did not work out. I hear there is still hope she may return as a guest star in the future. But the Revenge alumna has stepped down as a series regular, and the storyline of her character, Nicolette ‘Nic’ Nevin, is expected to be wrapped up early into Season 5.
Fans already are bracing for the worst as Fox is hinting heavily about Nic’s fate in an ominous first promo for the Season 5 premiere (you can watch it below).

When “Loki” returns for a second season, it will do so with a new director. Kate Herron will not return for the Tom Hiddleston-led Marvel show’s follow up.
“I’m not returning,” Herron told Deadline in an interview. “I always planned to be just on for this and to be honest, season 2 wasn’t in the — that’s something that just came out and I’m so excited.” A rep for Disney also confirmed that Herron will not be back.
Herron directed all the episodes and was an executive producer on the Disney+ series. Herron also ran the day-to-day on-set production while head writer, Michael Waldron was busy working on the script for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which is due out in theaters next March.
It is unclear if Waldron will be back, with a Disney rep stating nothing has been announced yet for the sophomore season.

Spoilers for the “Loki” Season 1 finale below:
It had been reported and rumored but never official until the very end, but Wednesday’s finale of “Loki” confirmed that there will be a season two of the Tom Hiddleston-led show.
The announcement came during the mid-credits scene, which just showed a stamp coming down on a stack of documents that said: “Loki will return in season 2.” There wasn’t anything more to the mid-credits scene, which makes sense, as the episode itself was full of huge reveals — and a bonkers cliffhanger ending.
We’ll get into that later but briefly, the Marvel multiverse is back. And things uh look bad. As for the rest, it’s super spoileriffic, and we’ll have more to say about it later.

“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” premiered on Disney+ on March 19 to bring the heroic action of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the small screen. The series follows the stories of Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) as they try to forge their own paths forward after the loss of Captain America. Scroll down to watch our six exclusive video interviews with top Emmy contenders from the drama series.
Sam shockingly gives up the vibranium shield which Captain America gifted to him at the end of “Avengers: Endgame,” unsure of whether the country will accept a black man taking on the title of Captain America. It’s an idea supported by the reveal of Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), a black super soldier that the government tortured, experimented on, and hid away from the world. The present day government installs war hero John Walker (Wyatt Russell) as the new Captain America.

Spoiler Warning: Do not read if you haven’t seen Season 1, Episode 5 of “Loki,” now streaming on Disney Plus.
I think it’s when Alligator Loki ate President Loki’s hand that I realized I was in love.
To be sure, I was always into “Loki,” Marvel Studios’ third Disney Plus series and the first devoted to exploring a single character: the god of mischief as played by Tom Hiddleston. From the first episode, I dug the absurdist deadpan humor imbued by head writer Michael Waldron, and I was immediately smitten with how director Kate Herron employed ’70s sci-fi brutalism and a particularly British affinity for bureaucracy to build out the world of the Time Variance Authority.
“Loki” looked unlike anything I’d ever seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an increasingly difficult prospect given there are now 26 discrete iterations of the MCU — soon to be 27 with the impending debut of “Black Widow.

One of the most widely discussed aspects of Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has been the extent of Sam and Bucky’s bromance.
Over the course of six episodes, we watched the reluctant partners bicker… roll intertwined in a field of grass for comedic effect, confide in each other… sit down for an impromptu couples therapy session… and share laughs while their relationship evolved from gentle hostility to genuine friendship.

Obviously, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was just the beginning. After the miniseries came to an end last Friday with Sam (Anthony Mackie) donning a new suit, a new shield and a new pair of wings, reports quickly started surfacing that Captain America 4 was in development from Falcon showrunner Malcolm Spellman. Marvel couldn't confirm, but just based on the way The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ended, there's more than enough there for a movie that could take the MCU in a whole new direction. Sharon Carter (Emily Van Camp) is now (or has long been) a bad guy. John Walker (Wyatt Russell) kinda sorta tried to redeem himself and now he's the U.S. Agent, with Julia Louis...

This article contains Spoilers for The Falcon And The Winter Soldier.
One of the more controversial narrative threads of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was the journey of former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter. The niece of S.H.I.E.L.D. charter member and Steve Rogers’ great love Peggy Carter, the well-meaning and pure-intentioned Sharon found herself out of favor with the U.S. government and on the lam after helping Steve in his quest to find and clear Bucky Barnes in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War — which included disregarding orders and returning the shield to Steve.
When we are reintroduced to Sharon (played by Emily VanCamp) in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, she is now bitter and cynical, cut off from her former life back home, seemingly forgotten by Steve, and now living in the shadows in the tough environs of Madripoor.

We already know of one future project to come out of Marvel’s second Disney+ series
(The following story contains spoilers from the finale of Disney+’s “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”)
Marvel’s first two series for Disney+ are in the books with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) fully taking on her Scarlet Witch persona from the comics and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) becoming the Star-Spangled Man. While Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige was very upfront that “WandaVision” would serve as a lead-in to “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” it was less clear if “The Falcon and the Winter Solder” would tie into any upcoming MCU project.

After 18 months off, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is back in full swing with its first two Disney+ series “WandaVision” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” The hugely popular franchise took an unexpected hiatus thanks to the coronavirus pandemic shutting down both production and movie theaters, causing Marvel Studios to delay its films and Disney+ TV series all the way out of 2020.
Below, here is a rundown of all the films and TV shows (the first under the Marvel Studios banner) that will stream or hit theaters (some at the same time) this year, and how we think they could affect the larger MCU.
“WandaVision” (Jan. 15)
Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany return as Wanda Maximoff and Vision, the latter of which is still definitely dead. The first MCU TV series for Disney+ finds Wanda’s reality-bending powers transporting the pair into the idyllic (and fictional) town of Westview, where they...

Who knew he would turn out to be the show’s real Mvp?
The final episode of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” had a lot of big moments for big characters. Sam Wilson finally became the new Captain America. Bucky Barnes finally made amends to himself and the people he hurt as Winter Soldier. Sharon Carter finally, uh, set up the perfect crime. But they all pale next to the episode’s real Mvp: Baron Zemo’s butler Oeznik (Nicholas Prynor), who turned out be hiding almost James Bond-level assassin skills underneath his geezer looks.
Let’s backtrack a bit. After Karli died, the rest of the Flag Smashers, including Karli’s friend Dovich, were captured and, near the end of the episode, loaded into a transport van bound for The Raft. It looks like yet another escape is in the works for the Flag Smashers when the guard...

This article contains The Falcon and the Winter Soldier spoilers.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe giveth and the Marvel Cinematic Universe taketh away. The MCU proper’s first foray into scripted television resulted in the magical, near-perfect WandaVision, a thoughtful exploration of grief and trauma that finally elevated one of the franchise’s most oft-neglected characters. Its second is The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a sadly ham-fisted origin story for Sam Wilson’s much-deserved turn as Captain America that stumbles over everything from its politics to the specifics of its basic character arcs.
As a whole, the series suffers from dreadfully uneven pacing, an overstuffed plot, and conflicting internal messages about propaganda, policing, and who deserves the chance to be considered a hero. But, hey, at least it finally gave one of the franchise’s most criminally underserved female characters a chance to shine, introducing an angry, bitter Sharon Carter...

(Warning: Major spoilers ahead for “Mortal Kombat.” Read on at your own risk)
There are a Lot of fighters in “Mortal Kombat,” each with their own unique ability that proves useful in saving Earth. But we need to talk about the ending for one in particular: Hanzo Hasashi, better known as Scorpion.
“Mortal Kombat” is centered on Cole Young, an Mma fighter who finds himself thrust into a supernatural fight to save the world. He bears an ancient dragon-shaped marked, signifying his role as one of Earthrealm’s champions in an ancient tournament known as Mortal Kombat.
The thing about Cole’s mark though, is that he was born with it. Every other fighter he encounters — Jax, Kano, Sonya Blade — has taken the mark from someone else by killing that person. Why is Cole different? Because his mark was passed down through his bloodline.

This article contains spoilers for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Talk about timing! With the conclusion of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+, Marvel wasted no time in revealing the next project that will spotlight Anthony Mackie’s newly minted Captain America. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman is co-writing a currently-untitled Captain America 4 with another Fws alum, Dalan Musson. There’s no director attached, and no other details available just yet, but it does raise some interesting possibilities right out of the gate.
For starters, this probably puts the kibosh on our hopes for a traditional The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2. On the one hand, that’s kind of a shame, because the Disney+ TV format allows more freedom and nuance than a traditional big screen outing does. On the other, it’s great...

This article contains The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 6 spoilers.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is over and it ended with one doozy of a post-credits scene. Sharon Carter is back, and she’s apparently flipped on the United States.
At the end of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier episode 6, Sharon finally gets her pardon. Senator Government Official, the unnamed, definitely not Senator Kelly guy who has been moving the plot forward all show, sits in an extremely insecure presumably Intelligence Committee hearing room and offers Sharon a full pardon, and her old job in intelligence back. She accepts, leaves the hearing, and puts a call into….someone…very excited about her pending access to a wealth of government secrets. She’s up to something.
This isn’t an unprecedented situation, though. Sharon is one of the Marvel Universe’s premiere superspies, up there with Nick Fury...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched the first season finale of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” streaming now on Disney Plus.
The six-episode run of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” has in many ways centered not on the Falcon or the Winter Soldier individually but on the legacy of Captain America and what it would mean for a Black man to take ownership of the shield and all it symbolizes. Like “WandaVision” before it, the series grappled with loss: where the former focused on individual grief following a traumatic world event, “Falcon” envisions a world in which those losses are restored en masse and subsequently explores what it means to be erased from history, in more ways than one.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier wrapped up its first season on Friday with a finale that was just as emotional as it was impactful. As Sam Wilson finally picks up the Captain America mantle in episode six, Marvel brilliantly sets up the course for the rest of its Phase 4 rollout. Not to mention, we also see the introduction of John Walker as U.S. Agent, the possibility of the Thunderbolts, and the revelation that the mysterious Power Broker has actually been Sharon Carter all along.
Things with Sharon get even more complicated in the finale's end-credits scene. After helping Sam and Bucky defeat the Flag-Smashers, Sam makes good on his promise to have Sharon pardoned for her role in the events of Captain America: Civil War. Of course, Sam is also completely unaware of her double identity as the Power Broker, which already looks like it will have some serious implications.

This article contains spoilers for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier episode 6.
Deviating from the Marvel formula a bit, the ending of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier isn’t designed to leave viewers with many questions. There is only one, quite brief, post-credit scene that falls well short of the Nick Fury “Avengers Initiative” watermark.
Before that, Sam Wilson a.k.a. Falcon a.k.a. Captain America basically articulates all of the series’ themes in great detail with an extended monologue to the world at large like he was Stan Marsh at the end of an early season South Park episode. Even the show’s final title card leaves absolutely no ambiguity, changing the series title from “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” to “Captain America and The Winter Soldier.”
While Disney+’s second major Marvel effort wraps much of its story into a neat little bow, it...

Marvel always knows how to go out with a bang, but The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Season 1 Episode 6 brings it to the next level.
"One World, One People" demonstrates the extremes Karli is willing to go to for her cause, even if the Flag Smashers do not always agree.
But it is too late for them to stop Karli. Now, it is up to Sam, Bucky, Sharon, and even Walker, to stop her.
One of the biggest plot twists involves Sharon Carter, as we cannot for the life of us figure out which side she is supposed to be on. We discover she was the Power Broker all along, and yet, she fights alongside Sam and Bucky to stop Karli.
And the mid-credits scene leaves us more confused than ever. Sharon gratefully accepts the government's pardon and returns to her position as Agent Carter, only to use it...

The former Shield agent is in a strange place at the end of the finale
(This article contains major spoilers for Sharon Carter’s story in the finale of Marvel’s “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Disney+)
Well well well. I don’t know what we expected to happen with Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” but I’m willing to bet very few people predicted anything like this.
First, we learned that everyone she knew, including her love interest and former Captain America Steve Rogers, just kinda abandoned her after the Snap. Then, since she was a fugitive, she had to find a new way to live her life, and she apparently chose to be a crime boss and call herself the Power Broker and start making new super soldiers.
But like with most folks, Sharon wanted to go home. So when...

This article contains The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 6 spoilers and potential spoilers for the wider MCU.
Well, it’s finally here. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 6 was an action-packed, but rather messy season finale for the show. Hopefully it isn’t a series finale, and we’ll see it continue in season 2 as Captain America and the Winter Soldier, but that’s an argument for another time.
For now, we’re here (as usual) to dig in to all the Marvel Comics and MCU references the show gave us this episode. We’ll be honest, it was relatively light on those, but there’s still plenty to speculate about. And if you spot anything we missed, be sure to let us know in the comments!
The New Captain America Sam’s incredibly sharp-looking Captain America costume is a perfect live action translation of the version he wore in the comics.

This article contains The Falcon and the Winter Soldier spoilers.
For the curious amongst us, gleaning information from Marvel about a second season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier these last few months has pretty much meant running into a series of brick walls. Ask anyone involved about the future of the show, which examines the legacy of Captain America and super soldiers through the lens of the latest man to wield the shield, Sam Wilson, and you’d get the verbal equivalent of a shrug.
Before asking if The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 will happen – presumably as Captain America and the Winter Soldier going forward – we should perhaps take a moment to appreciate the amount of work it took behind the scenes to deliver a first season. Production on that first season – now streaming in full on Disney+ – was interrupted by the pandemic last year and...

A review of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale, “One World, One People,” coming up just as soon as I save people a lot of redacting and a lot of shredding…
For its first five episodes, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier kept hovering around mediocrity. Sometimes, like Sam’s conversation with Isaiah last week, it was much better than that. At others, like those forgettable (save for Zemo) middle chapters, it was a bit worse. But the series as a whole seemed fine: less audacious than WandaVision, but...

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 6
Last week’s episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier had a weird feel to it. It was almost like a season finale where there was still more story left, but that would be next year’s problem. It was relaxed, it took its time, and it felt incredibly coherent. Then they got to the cliffhanger, including the mid-credits scene, and it left everyone wanting an action-packed final episode. Well, we got it with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 6, “One World, One People.”
Yes, the finale has plenty of action and it does give us some closure, but it’s also a big mess. While I didn’t come out of it hating the episode or the show, but it just didn’t sit right.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s finale staged a final showdown with Karli and the Flag Smashers, before teasing “weird” things ahead in the MCU (as well as a new title for any possible Season 2).

We made it. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finally finished its run on Disney+ this week, and no one must have been happier about it than the cast and crew of the ambitious Marvel series, who had to fight tooth and nail to get it wrapped up during a global pandemic.
There weren’t too many surprises in the finale, but the show delivered pretty much everything it promised. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) took up the Captain America mantle and tried to resolve the Flag-Smashers situation once and for all, but ended up giving a passionate speech about the nature of terrorism and the grey areas that many politicians would rather pretend didn’t exist instead.

Spoiler Alert: This recap contains spoilers from the Season 1 finale of Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, “One World, One People”
While it’s not clear what MCU features The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will tie into next, the groundwork was laid tonight for a definite part two of something, whether it’s a second season of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, or a spinoff series involving John Walker’s U.S. Agent.
In a surprise, but no surprise, we finally learn who the Power Broker is, and it’s Agent Sharon Carter. She’s been the one pulling the strings behind the scenes, and getting into the Flag Smashers’ ears specifically when it comes to the superhero serum. We had bigger hopes of a more nefarious figure in the MCU, such as William Hurt’s General “Thunderbolt” Ross who had his own agenda with re-creating the...

After the season premiere of “Supergirl” sent Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) to the Phantom Zone, things have been a bit hectic for the Super Friends back in National City. While they desperately try to bring her back, Martian Manhunter (David Harewood), Sentinel (Chyler Leigh), Brainy (Jesse Rath) and Dreamer (Nicole Maines) have taken over hero duties, with Dreamer pulling double time, also covering for Kara at CatCo as just regular Nia Nal.
It’s a stressful time, and things may not be getting better any time soon — particularly for Nia. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 5
When we last left our patriotic heroes, Captain America’s replacement, John Walker, had just publicly chopped a man to death with his shield. Between this and the way Mysterio edited footage to make Spider-Man look like a mass murderer, it’s a really bad time for Avengers replacements. There’s probably footage of Valkyrie biting someone’s face off to fulfill the trifecta.
Recently, Marvel released a trailer to hype up the last two episodes, and the long-awaited fight between our titular protagonists and the unhinged Walker came off as some kind of climactic final battle. Instead, as a curve ball, that’s exactly where the penultimate episode begins. Before there can be any international fallout over Captain America publicly slaughtering a defeated enemy in front of dozens of recording cell phones, Falcon...

Both WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier had big cameos in store during their fifth episodes, but unlike WandaVision’s Evan Peters reveal, which ultimately proved to be no more important to the MCU than a boner joke, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s surprise introduction of Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will have much more of an impact on the future of the MCU – and we may see her again very soon after the series ends.
