It’s been less than 12 years since Dan Stevens raised a middle finger to the British aristocracy, quitting “Downton Abbey” as the show neared its Emmy-amassing zenith and setting sail for America with his family. As he admits, he had “absolutely no idea” what was going to happen to him.
“There was no roadmap,” the 41-year-old actor explains with frank honestly about a decision that, at the time, was considered by many to be sheer lunacy. “I left ‘Downton’ with a blank slate. It was just, ‘I think I want to do other things.’ But I didn’t know what that looked like.”
To have an idea of what that currently looks like, anyone need just head to their nearest cinema, where Stevens is going head-to-head against himself in two of the biggest studio releases of the season. In what has become something of a calling card for the Brit...

For the first time (except for the studio's unplanned 2020 Covid-19 hiatus) since "The Avengers" rocked the box office all the way back in 2012, there will be only one Marvel Studios film released this year.
That film is "Deadpool & Wolverine," which just released its second trailer after the first debuted during the Super Bowl. Hugh Jackman, who's been playing Wolverine since 2000's "X-Men, was lured out of superhero retirement to share the screen with Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds). Wolverine had an emotional, well-crafted send-off in 2017's "Logan," but now that Disney owns all of Marvel Comics' characters (thanks to a merger with 20th Century Fox), they want the face of Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Regardless, Jackman seems pretty pumped about putting the claws back on. He teased the trailer on his social media account, posting a clip with sepia-toned clips from past "Wolverine"/"X-Men" movies over Deadpool's voiceover: "Eventually,...

Reintroducing villains or anti-heroes from former movies hasn’t really been MCU’s style ever since it was kicked off with Iron Man back in 2008. Characters like Loki and Bucky Barnes have been an exception in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe as they have already redeemed themselves in multiple movies and series over the years.

However, as we witnessed in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel would bring back older characters if the studio feels like it.
Kevin Bacon opens up about making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut
Many stars have been a part of Marvel’s extended universe over the years, even if they were never a part of Marvel Cinematic Universe. From Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy to the X-Men movies, none of these were a part of the MCU as Marvel Studios did not have the rights for these characters until a few years ago.

Hollywood star Patrick Stewart famously portrayed Professor X in the original X-Men franchise alongside a stellar ensemble cast. However, when the 2011 film First Class rebooted the series as a prequel, a fresh cast was introduced, with James McAvoy stepping into the role of Charles Xavier. And the now-83-year-old actor graciously supported McAvoy taking on the role of Professor X.

While he was more than pleased to see McAvoy embodying the younger version of his character, there were moments when Stewart admitted to feeling a bit unsettled by the sight of the 44-year-old actor inhabiting the iconic role he had portrayed for years.

James McAvoy knew just what needed to be done to make his mark in the X-Men franchise as Professor X after Patrick Stewart’s unforgettable performances.
The best thing about bringing comic book characters to life is that they are not limited to just one actor. Over time, many actors have replaced each other in order to bring our favorite superheroes to life. However, sometimes a person is so perfect for a role that you cannot ever imagine someone else in their shoes. The best example to support this statement is Patrick Stewart and his run as Charles Xavier a.k.a. Professor X.
Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor X in X-Men: The Last Stand
The actor has become synonymous with the role, having played him in several X-Men films, except X-Men: First Class. In this film, James McAvoy took over the responsibility of playing a younger Professor X.

The latest episode of X-Men ’97 saw the return of Professor X, who was taken to the Shi’ar empire after he was believed to be killed by Henry Gyrich in the old series. The new X-Men ’97 introduces one aspect of Professor X’s life that neither X-Men: The Animated Show nor the Marvel films ever explored. At its core, the Alien franchise is easy to understand: people meet aliens, bad things happen. It’s a lot harder to keep track of when exactly these things occur.
Alien takes place in 2122, Aliens 57 years later, and then Alien 3 happens shortly afterwards. But then things get weird. Alien Resurrection jumps ahead 202 years, Prometheus begins sometime in prehistory and then in 2093, and Alien: Covenant is in 2104. Alien: Romulus will squeeze in between the first two movies, around 2142, which is 20 years after the original. And that’s not even going through the Alien vs Predator flicks or the countless games, books, and comics.
Then there’s the new Alien TV series coming from creator Noah Hawley, best known for the Fargo show and Legion. Deadline has confirmed the movie takes place about 30 years before the events of Alien, or as FX chief John Landgraf put it to THR, “near the...

Marvel Studios’ latest animated show, X-Men ’97 started where the original X-Men: The Animated Series left off. Bringing back the mutant superheroes back on our screens, the show has touched fans with a familiar style of storytelling, bringing major nostalgia, but also adding elements of today’s time. The writing has also been top-notch, which only added to the show, which has found critical acclaim alongside high ratings.

This post contains spoilers for "X-Men '97" up to and including episode 6.
"X-Men '97" has been fantastic. There's nostalgia in there, sure, but also some stunning storytelling — a desire to use this opportunity to tell new stories that go harder and further on certain elements that the Fox Network couldn't touch back in the '90s.
Case in point: how episode 5 weaponized nostalgia to shatter the hearts of the audience with a devastating attack on Genosha that killed a bunch of fan favorites in what the head writer calls a cataclysmic event meant to change everything for the show. This is the moment mutants realize that things are in fact dangerous (and not just in alternate futures).
It was a bold, bloody choice to adapt one of the darkest Marvel storylines, "X-Men: E is For Extinction." This was the opening storyline of Grant Morrison's run with "New X-Men," and in the comics,...

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
Back in the ’90s, the original X-Men: The Animated Series gained a following precisely because it could translate the tangled soap-opera storylines from the comic franchise into compelling, but easily digestible chunks. X-Men ’97 continues this tradition, but for a very different audience. Where only big nerds knew about Gambit or Deadpool in the ’90s, now they’re household names.
And yet, X-Men ’97 goes even deeper, filling the screen with deep-cut Marvel characters from both the world of mutants and the cosmos. If you want to put some names and backstories to some of these faces, here’s a guide to all the cameos and major character returns in the show’s sixth episode, “Lifedeath Part 2.”

If the massacre of Mutants in Genosha delivered a brutal gut punch in last week’s episode of X-Men’97, the recent episode will come off as an utter shock to the fans, as news of Charles Xavier’s survival has changed the understanding of the situation in a massive way. For over a year or so, the X-Men were led to believe that Gyrich’s assassination attempt claimed Charles’ life, and the team struggled to come to terms with the reality that the professor wasn’t there to guide them. Magneto became the new leader according to Charles’ last wishes and faced hurdles from Mutant hating humankind from the beginning. Still, to honor his late friend’s memory, he showed mercy to the wrongdoers, an act that helped Mutants gain acceptance on the world stage as the sovereignty of Mutant nation Genosha was recognized by the Un.

Thanks to recent trends that have been established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems like diverse Marvel projects, those produced by other studios before and parallel to the MCU are part of the same multiverse. Given that it has been established that the multiverse functions on a ‘What If’ mechanism (basically there is a norm that things deviate from rather than being radically different from the get-go), it begs the question of why some concepts exist in certain universes, but are absent from others.
Hydra in the MCU
For example, it seems that whichever universe has the X-Men, usually does not have the Avengers, and the universes that have a version of the Avengers, usually end up without a unified team of mutants. This has been speculated about by fans, and the conclusion that has been reached might be a little more out there than what most would expect.

The X-Men has always been an IP that prides itself on the diverse and interesting cast that it brings to the table. However, lately, it had felt like the IP was just going to focus on some key characters like Magneto, Charles Xavier, and Wolverine while leaving other interesting characters in the dust. X-Men ’97, however, has broken that mold and decided to sideline the more popular X-Men characters to focus on the entire cast of mutants that it has at its disposal.

Dan Stevens’ Legion was one show that was liked by fans in many ways. However, its end was one they weren’t so ready for. Deadpool 3 is turning out to be an action-packed multiversal flick that fans have nothing but anticipation for.
With Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman not being the only returning actors, there is an uproar among fans to incorporate the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the smoothest way possible.

X-Men ’97 delivered one of its most devastating episodes with Episode 5, which saw the brutal deaths of multiple mutants in the nation of Genosha, while also depicting the tragic fates of Magneto and Gambit. With the estimated number of mutants that were killed still under wraps, the event, as put forth by the writer of the show, was meant to emulate real-world tragedies like 9/11 and the Tulsa Massacre.

Spoilers ahead for episode 5 of X-Men ’97.
After decades’ worth of patience, X-Men ’97 delivers upon a promise of good television with a near-perfect adaptation of Marvel’s mutant superheroes. The series, which recently took the entire world by storm, represents the hope carried by fans since the original show’s run in the 90s. Although nothing ever quite became as iconic as that period’s cartoon when it comes to Marvel animation, X-Men ’97 comes pretty close.

But one factor which could have made the series uber-popular ends up being a misdirection, and even though the plot twist manages to shock the audience and leave them with questions, the show’s director does a good job too of crushing those dreams and expectations in one swift blow.

Time and again, the X-Men saga has proved to be Marvel Comics’ key source of bold, hard-hitting, poignant storytelling, with the stories of mutants acting as an allegorized account of the real-world treatment of the marginalized sections of society. With the latest episode of X-Men ’97, titled Remember It, viewers are once again reminded of the scope of such narratives, as a devastating tragedy taking place in the mutant nation of Genosha almost reminds us of an ongoing real-world crisis.

Contains spoilers for Episode 5 of the new series of X-Men '97.
Whether it’s the iconic killer intro, the heartfelt central themes of acceptance, or the fun mutant melodrama, the animated exploits of Charles Xavier and his ragtag team of X-Men have long held a special place in ‘90s kids’ hearts. The beloved X-Men: The Animated Series proved a firm staple in the Saturday morning cartoon line-up – for many, it was the seminal superhero series. While the show would often strike a fine balance between epic apocalyptic battles and quieter, more character-driven moments (were you Team Cyclops or Team Wolverine?), no matter the struggle, the X-Men would always show up to save the day.

The original Fox’s ‘X-Men’ film series cast is the cast that we will associate with some of the most popular Marvel characters in years to come. If you think about Storm it’s impossible not to conjure up images of Halle Berry, or associate Patric Stewart with Charles Xavier.
Famke Janssen, the actress behind the iconic Jean Grey portrayal is still the best live-action Jean Grey, despite Sophia Turner also portraying the character in the latter installments.
With ‘Deadpool 3’ release looming on the horizon and all the various rumors associated with former X-Men characters making a big comeback for Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU, it’s impossible not to wonder whether Famke will make an appearance as Jean Grey as well.

The original cast of Fox’s ‘X-Men’ films will forever be linked with some of Marvel’s most beloved characters. When you think of Storm, Halle Berry immediately comes to mind, and Patrick Stewart is synonymous with Charles Xavier. Famke Janssen, who played the iconic Jean Grey, remains the definitive live-action portrayal, even though Sophie Turner took on the role in later films.
As the release of ‘Deadpool 3’ approaches and rumors swirl about former X-Men characters returning for Deadpool’s MCU debut, fans can’t help but speculate if Famke will reprise her role as Jean Grey too.

During the early 2000s X-Men: Evolution reimagined the popular Marvel Comics team for a younger audience. The animated series ran for 52 episodes across four seasons and was the first introduction to Mutants for an entirely new generation of superhero fans. However, the series failed to bring to life one of the X-Men’s deadliest foes.

Rising from the ashes of X-Men: The Animated Series like a Dark Phoenix, X-Men ‘97 has done a stellar job of bringing fan-favorites like Scott, Jean, and Wolverine back into the fray. While Marvel Studios’ producer Brad Winderbaum has revealed that production is already underway for seasons 2 and 3, some sneaky hints suggest that the lineup of this colorful cartoon caper could soon look a little different.
The Original X-Men
X-Men ‘97 has largely stuck with the series staples of X-Men: The Animated Series, albeit with the additions of Morph and Bishop while swapping out Professor Xavier for a reformed Magneto. Several Easter eggs have referenced both old and new teams, with the season premiere reminding us the current roster is far from the original lineup of Charles Xavier’s Gifted Youngsters.
A nostalgic picture of the “original” team is on display at the school.

When Hugh Jackman bid farewell to his iconic role as Wolverine in the 2017 flick Logan, fans were struck by a bittersweet feeling. The movie proved to be an appropriate goodbye to the much-loved character, revealing a more vulnerable and emotional side to the clawed mutant. However, what many fans might not know is that The Wolverine couldn’t have taken place if Fox had adhered to their original plan to have Darren Aronofsky helm the 2013 flick.
The Wolverine, a sequel to X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), was originally slated to be directed by Aronofsky, who is best known for his dark and intense movies like Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream. A fan favorite X-Men villain returns along with the almost forgotten campy moniker of one of the core X-Men team members, as the third episode of X-Men’97 maintains the strong momentum initiated by the first couple of episodes of the series. Previously, the narrative followed the eponymous team of mutants a year after the death of their beloved mentor and leader, Professor Charles Xavier, and in his absence, Scott took on the responsibilities of leadership. As the team has their plates full while tackling the dual threat of the mutant hate group “Friends of Humanity” and Boliver Trask’s mutant exterminating abominations, an expectant Jean proposes the idea of leaving the team to Scott—for their unborn child’s sake.

Spoilers for "X-Men '97" to follow.
Love is in the air on "X-Men '97" with Rogue and ... Magneto??! Apparently, the two have a history. Now that Magneto has joined the X-Men, old feelings are surfacing.
In episode 2, "Mutant Liberation Begins," the pair share a private chat dancing around their history; Magneto tells Rogue he made a mistake by shutting Charles Xavier out (with a psychic-blocking helmet and all), saying he should've kept people who cared for him close — implicitly including Rogue too. She says she wants to keep their past buried, but at the episode's end, they meet in private again; apparently, Magneto's power can nullify Rogue's deadly touch, so she can experience intimacy with him that she can't with anyone else. A heartbroken Gambit spots Rogue exiting Magneto's office.
The third and most recent episode, "Fire Made Flesh," continued the teasing. Rogue/Magneto apparently haven't admitted the connection to their comrades,...

X-Men: The Animated Series was a famous animated comic book series on TV from 1992-1997, with five fantastic seasons. The show following members of Charles Xavier’s X-Men superhero team was so successful that reruns were aired for years. According to viewers, it remains one of the most iconic Marvel adaptations, perfectly depicting intriguing storylines like the Dark Phoenix saga, which movies like X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019) and X-Men: Days of Future Past(2014) tried unsuccessfully to bring to the big screen. 2024 Marvel’s X-Men 97 will be trying to recapture the magic of the Og series by continuing a day after the 1992 animated series left off. Have you noticed that a lot of science-fiction movies haven't felt so fictional of late? Oh sure, the genre has always been about our real-world problems in the present day. Yet, as technology has caught up to our collective imaginations, a lot of would-be fantastical representations of the future have come to resemble our current hellscape but either slightly shinier and/or dingier and with A.I. that's capable of more than cranking out fake YouTube film trailer screencaps of men standing behind nude women.
