Bad movies can sometimes conceal great ideas, ruined by inept creative decisions along the way. Cult followings often form around bad films, making them seem so bad they're good. Intriguing movie concepts often fall flat if not executed well, leading to disappointment from fans and critics.
Sometimes, a bad movie announces its arrival from a mile off, but there are other cases where a bad movie conceals the possibility of a great idea. Bad movies are always interesting case studies of the pitfalls of creating art, especially with financial problems, studio meddling, or behind-the-scenes chaos. Often, part of what makes a bad movie so inadvertently entertaining is that the central premise is terrible beyond belief. But there are also plenty of examples of an intriguing concept being utterly ruined by inept creative decisions along the way.

Greta Gerwig and Mattel have delivered one of the biggest movies of summer 2023 with Barbie. Based on the classic children's toy, Barbie brings Barbieland to life, along with its many colorful inhabitants, all portrayed by some of Hollywood's biggest stars. In fact, even the Kens are played by several famous actors, including Ncuti Gatwa, Simu Liu, John Cena, and, of course, Ryan Gosling.
Barbie has received both praise and criticism for its feminist outlook, with some detractors claiming that the industry should be more focused on movies made by women rather than those about girls' toys. Margot Robbie leads the cast as Stereotypical Barbie, but she is far from the only version of Barbie present in the film. With a cast of Barbies ranging in profession and even species, the film sports some versions of Barbie that stand out as particular scene-stealers.

Barbie (read our review Here) is currently dominating the box office, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if it goes on to rack up some Oscar nominations as well. It seems like a lock for categories like Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, etc. Variety recently spoke to production designer Sarah Greenwood and set decorator Katie Spencer about the work they did to bring Barbie Land to the screen… and during the conversation, it was revealed that one of the locations in Barbieland was inspired by an iconic location from one of the most popular horror movies ever made: Weird Barbie’s house was inspired by the Bates house in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (watch it Here)!
Weird Barbie’s house was one of the last sets Greenwood and Spencer worked on, and Greenwood had this to say about it: “One of my early references...

We’re looking at cinema through a pair of pink-tinted glasses because Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is everywhere right now. The Margot Robbie-led caper is defying all expectations and looks poised to kickstart a Mattel Cinematic Universe that includes an upcoming Barney movie with Daniel Kaluuya.
This is far from the first Barbie movie we’ve had, but as well as being the first live-action outing, its meta take on the IP is grabbing headlines. With some 64 years of Barbie history to pull from, the script has gotten away with weaving in some of the toy line’s many controversies.
Barbie has faced controversies of its own since its box office-smashing debut, such as an enraged minority of audience members calling out the movie “anti-men” propaganda. While Gerwig’s film continues to enjoy box office success, here are the real-life Barbie doll controversies that...

“Hustlers,” the crime film based on a true story and starring Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez, earned $2.5 million at the box office Thursday in previews. It opens on 3,250 screens this weekend.
“Hustlers” comes from STX, and the film’s cast of pop stars and strong reviews and word of mouth out of the Toronto International Film Festival hope to boost the film to be the largest opening in STX's history. However, it has to contend with Warner Bros.’ adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “The Goldfinch” and “It Chapter Two” as it heads into a massive second weekend.
The studio is projecting “Hustlers” to open in the mid-$20 million range, with independent trackers saying it could land between $25-28 million against an approximately $20 million budget. The hope is that it can topple STX’s highest opening to date, “Bad Moms,” which opened in July 2016 to $23.8 million after grossing $2 million in its Thursday previews.

Brace yourselves, as we have a brand new look at director Tom Hooper's Cats. This adaptation of the legendary Broadway musical has garnered a lot of attention ever since the first trailer dropped in July. And rightfully so. We have some of the world's finest actors and performers being turned into cats using groundbreaking digital effects. It's as crazy as it sounds and, as we see in this featurette, everyone is taking it very seriously.
This video comes with a whole lot less so-called "digital fur technology" as it's more of a behind-the-scenes look at how this is all going to come together. We see Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, James Corden and more discussing, in a very serious way, the process of bringing Cats to life. The choreography, without the CGI cat stuff, is impressive, that much is certain. Much like John Hammond with Jurassic Park, they've spared no...

The Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff) kicked off on Sept. 5, and so far, the red carpet has been filled with more glitz, glamour, and gorgeous gowns than we can handle. You'd be forgiven for getting distracted by the cast of Hustlers who stole the show at the film's premiere on Saturday, with Keke Palmer, Mette Towley, Jennifer Lopez, Lili Reinhart, and Constance Wu all making stunning appearances.
Michael B. Jordan, Brie Larson and Jamie Foxx were all smiles as they walked the red carpet at the premiere for Just Mercy. Hitting cinemas on Jan. 24, 2020, the film is one of the most anticipated releases of the holiday season, and is based on a true story about a young lawyer who begins a history-making battle for justice when he travels to Alabama to defend those wrongly convicted. Ahead, see all of the stars' - as well as the other attendees - fabulous red carpet appearances so far.

The powerful women of upcoming stripper saga Hustlers united at the movie's Toronto International Film Festival premiere on Saturday. Keke Palmer, Mette Towley, and Lili Reinhart - who recently starred in a gorgeous Rodarte campaign - all made stunning appearances on the red carpet, flashing bright smiles and fiercely working their angles. Jennifer Lopez - who rocked a shimmering marigold Maison Yeya gown before switching into a red dress for an afterparty - was also in attendance with fiancé Alex Rodriguez.
Based on a true story, Hustlers centers around a group of former strippers who team up to prod money out of Wall Street clientele. Between the hilarious scenes we've already watched in the trailer and the cast's show-stopping red carpet looks, we're pumped to see the film (and potentially take up pole dancing classes) when it hits theaters on Sept. 13. Look ahead to view more snaps of the stars at Tiff!

Starring Jennifer Lopez, "Hustlers" is written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, based on the "New York" magazine" article "The Hustlers at Scores" by Jessica Pressler (2015), describing the true story of how a gang of greedy lap-dancers routinely swindled and ripped-off patrons by maxing out customer credit cards and spiking drinks with narcotics, co-starring Constance Wu, Cardi B, Keke Palmer, Julia Stiles, Lili Reinhart and Lizzo, opening September 13, 2019:
"...that's why I think we got greedy. Because of the amount of stress we had to endure. We're just like, You know what, these people are fucking pissing me off.
"Just for that, I’m going to max out his credit card, like a penalty. You’re going to be left with a zero balance. Zero credit line. Just for being annoying. We needed to make it worth it...If we don’t do it, someone else is going to do it.
