Steven Spielberg set to helm Moses epic Gods And Kings for Warner Bros

Steven Spielberg is close to agreeing a deal to direct a new film about Moses, which is described as a biblical blend of Braveheart and Saving Private Ryan.

The Warner Bros project, which has a working title of Gods And Kings, will not be in 3D and is not a remake of Cecil B. DeMille's 1956 epic The Ten Commandments, starring Charlton Heston.

An insider told Deadline: "There have been glossy versions of the Moses story but this would be a real warrior story", adding it would be a "Braveheart-ish version."

Spielberg read the script by Stuart Hazeldine and Michael Green last September. Hazeldine is also a writer on Paradise Lost, Alex Proyas's upcoming action fantasy film based on Milton's poem, while Green was among the scribes on Green Lantern.

It's worth noting that in 2009, Twentieth Century Fox picked up another Moses project that was also envisaged as similar to Braveheart.
