For the first time in decades, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will bestow just one Oscar for Sound. The Sound Mixing and Sound Editing categories, for the time being, are no more. That doesn’t mean, however, that the artists who craft the sounds have given up dividing the riches. Over the past two days, the Motion Picture Sound Editors (Mpse) and the Cinema Audio Society revealed their nominees for the Mpse Golden Reels Awards and the Cas Awards, respectively.
