Joe Biden White House Says It Wasn’t Informed About Justice Department Move That Could Lead To Dismissal Of Defamation Case Against Donald Trump
Updated, with letter from House Democrats: White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that they were not made aware of the Justice Department’s move to substitute itself in a case defending Donald Trump in a defamation lawsuit.

“The president strongly believes in the independence of the Department of Justice,” Psaki said. “We were not consulted. The White House was not consulted, I should say more specifically, by the Department of Justice on the decision to file this brief or its contents.”

Journalist E. Jean Carroll had sued Trump while he was president, claiming that he lied about an encounter he had with her in a New York department store in the 1990s. Carroll claimed that Trump raped her, while he denied the claim.
