The Jason Bourne films are a favorite among spy movie enthusiasts. The series was launched in 2002 with Doug Liman's The Bourne Identity and loosely adapted from Robert Ludlum's novels, which were influenced by the golden age of Hollywood spy films.

Since Ludlum's Bourne Identity was published in 1980, it's logical to assume a cinematic adaptation wouldn't be too far behind. While a made-for-tv film was produced in 1988, but it would be another decade before it got the big-budget Hollywood treatment. If The Bourne Identity was greenlit in the 1980s, it would need a powerful cast of characters to make it work. Thankfully, they were in great supply in that decade.
