What’s old is new again. After opening the door to streaming qualification during the pandemic, the Academy announced today that films attempting to qualify for the Oscars must once again be released in theaters. That was part of a number of new rules regarding the qualifying and campaigning of each potential nominee.

The six qualifying U.S. metropolitan areas for a one-week release continue to be Los Angeles County; New York City; the Bay Area; Chicago, Illinois; Miami, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia.
