    Fred Harvey’s The Harvey House chain of restaurants and hotels. Considered the first restaurant chain in the United States. It existed originally at the stops along railroad lines, primarily along the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. When passenger railroad travel declined, they became oasis stops along the highways.
