    Opening Number a la La La Land (2016)

    In the show's cold open, Jimmy Fallon became stuck in a traffic jam on the way to the Globes. Naturally, he got out of his car and started singing and dancing, aided by Nicole Kidman, Evan Rachel Wood, Sarah Paulson, and the kids from "Stranger Things." The movie's signature song, "City of Stars," became "Room Full of Stars," and instead of dancing off into night sky with Emma Stone, Fallon tangoed with — who else? — Justin Timberlake.

By the end of his speech, he had us moved while graciously thanking partner Eva Mendes and dedicating his award to her late brother.

    The actress, who had nearly lost her voice, nevertheless gave a strong speech in which she pointed out the diversity in the house, with nominees born in Ethiopia, Kenya, and, in Ryan Gosling's case, Canada. She took time to touch on the political climate of the United States and finally ended by fondly remembering the late Carrie Fisher: "As my dear departed friend Princess Leia said to me, 'Take your broken heart, make it into art.'"
