Poll: Best Scrapped "Game of Thrones" Universe Pitch

Home Box Office thinks it has a winning hand with George R.R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' novels and related works. It believes it can mine the source material for a dozen or more TV series to air on its family of networks. Disney's has already proven this formula can work twice with both the Marvel and Star Wars franchises. HBO is treading very carefully to avoid any missteps, like those Game of Thrones (2011) encountered, when it outran its published source material. HBO is betting the bank that it can turn the multi-billion dollar success of the first "Game of Thrones" series into a franchise universe that will bear fruit for decades.

As of 20 April 2022, thirteen known in-development "Game of Thrones" universe projects have yielded one series ordered, one series cancelled with only an unaired pilot, five series ideas that were scrapped and another six that are currently being vetted and whose status is "officially" undetermined. As the saying goes: "You've got to crack a few eggs to make an omelet." In seeking to expand the franchise, HBO has certainly been willing to abandon good ideas that didn't meet the high bar set by the original series. Source: Game of Thrones Fandom

Based on each writer's reputation and the scant details available, which of these scrapped "Game of Thrones" universe pitches would you most like to see revived and become a GoT prequel TV series or maybe even a GoT feature film?

  1. Vote!

    Brian Helgeland

I opt for the Untitled Brian Helgeland/Game of Thrones Successor Series.

This prequel was rejected early on and was never really developed. Its theme and details remain unknown.

  2. Vote!

    Carly Wray

I opt for the Untitled Carly Wray/Game of Thrones Spin-Off (????).

It is rumored to be set during the Regency era, some 300 years earlier. It would depict the decline and fall of the Dance of the Dragons, and its aftermath.

  3. Vote!

    Max Borenstein

I opt for the tentatively titled, Empire of Ash, aka Untitled Max Borenstein/Game of Thrones Spin-Off (????).

It is rumored to be set during the Doom of Valyria, some 400 years earlier. It would depict the decline and fall of the Valyrian Freehold, culminating with its volcanic destruction and the escape of the Targaryens.

  4. Vote!

Georgie Henley, Denise Gough, Toby Regbo, Jamie Campbell Bower, Ivanno Jeremiah, Alex Sharp, Sheila Atim, and Naomi Ackie in Unaired Game of Thrones Prequel Pilot (2019)

I opt for the tenatively titled Blood Moon, the Jane Goldman/Game of Thrones Prequel Series, aka Unaired Game of Thrones Prequel Pilot (2019).

It is rumored to be set during the Age of Heroes, some 8,000 years earlier, and would depict the events surrounding the Long Night.

  5. Vote!

    Bryan Cogman

I opt for the Untitled Bryan Cogman/Game of Thrones Successor Series.

It is rumored to be set during the War of Conquest, some 300 years earlier. It would depict the Targaryen unification of six of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros under the House Targaryen. This prequel era is the same period that a new set of writers developed into the GoT universe series, "House of the Dragon".

  6. Vote!

Eros Vlahos, Ben Hawkey, and Maisie Williams in Game of Thrones (2011)

I opt for the King's Landing neighborhood-centered Flea Bottom successor series.

This "Game of Thrones" series did not advance much in development, being described as a "nascent" idea. One possible storyline could have focused on City Watch commander, Daemon Targaryen and his overtaking the criminal underworld in the slum.
