Poll: Who's to Blame for the Oscar Envelope Mix-Up?

Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway had to present the last award at the 89th Annual Academy Awards, the Oscar for best picture. However, instead of the envelope for best picture, they were given a second envelope for lead actress, which was won by Emma Stone of 'La La Land', causing Dunaway to announce that 'La La Land' had won best picture, instead of 'Moonlight'.

    A new envelope design - red with the category embossed on the front in gold lettering making the category very difficult to read - could have been a factor in the mix-up. In earlier years, cream-colored envelopes had the category written on the back in black, so presenters could see it quite clearly as they prepared to open in.

    Warren Beatty opened the envelope and noticed that there was something fishy about it, but he wasn't sure so he passed the envelope to Faye Dunaway. Instead he should have seen that the envelope was marked in capital letters 'ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE' and the card inside clearly stated: And the Oscar goes to... Emma Stone for 'La La Land'. He should have called Jimmy and ask for the correct envelope.

    After receiving the envelope from Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway didn't even read it... she just glanced at it and happily yelled 'LA LA LAND'!! So no matter what mistakes were made before her, she made the final announcement.
