Much better-told movies (some are mentioned by other users) have been made than this double-cheap crap, and I don't even want to see them, either. Being based-on a real-life psycho doesn't give them any more credence. I would wager 99% of these comments were written by males who, thankfully, don't have the courage to act-out on their fantasies.
Aren't we lucky this was a B&W film, so all that blood-and-gore is not visible? Uck !!!!
I came-in during the middle of "The Sadist" - Sade would immediately disown it being made in his name - and became immediately aware it was pulp: Ugh-type pulp, at that. Apparently, all James Landis (director) had to do was holler-out "be brutally mean". With all due respect to those people who need to view this kind of slaughter, this one should be enough. Even big-budget films with good plots and fine actors/actresses often turn me off. Right now, we are wondering why our kids have become so violent - movies and games like "The Sadist" give them directions to follow, step-by-step.
I'm so glad I didn't see all the killing and torture - I would have got-the-heck out of there, right then. TCM is a 24-hour channel: it must dredge-up all kinds of movies, even on the flimsiest of premises. I'm so thankful I can click them away.
I even had an intuition for the ending........with all that desolate landscape very realistically filmed, what else but rattle-snakes ? Use your imagination.
I did not find a single, redeeming characteristic in this movie. I'm sure it cost about 2-bucks to shoot (except for the camera-man) and has made tons of money, so maybe all the "bravos!" it has received are sufficient. I don't even find it credible to mention its cast; the big-name cinematographer apparently took the money and ran. The film possibly could be useful as a study for some psycho-classes, but if it has one iota of entertainment, I missed it - thank heavens ! I give it the loudest "Boo" I can make.......
