The Final Episode Wasnt Necessary
13 October 2020
This show was a very very long-winded story, it is a ghost story rather then a horror story and as such it has all the trappings of something scary while it is really better classed as a tragic drama.

The actors all play their part well with maybe the exception of one or two characters that only appear in an episode or two. The writing is detailed but sometimes too detailed with an emphasis on saying 3 words when 1 would have done which takes us directly to the issue at the heart of Bly Manor, it's too long.

There is an old phrase that comes to mind 'you have been too long for any good it is doing' with Bly Manor the phrase takes physical form as the story tends to take far too long to get to the point it is making and goes back over itself so much that in the end 6-8 episodes would have been more then enough to tell the story they chose to tell in 9.

The story itself is a good one and I wont spoil it here, I just feel that it was mishandled and muddled too much in the later episodes and a different director or writer might have brought it to a sharper focus.

Either way, watch it yourself and see what I mean.
