The Sacrifice (2020) / Jin Gang Chuan
The Chinese have their own "Dunkirk style" war movie. Four chapters, one story told from three different perspectives and the final chapter, the grand finale where we see the "Human Bridge".
To give you the gist of it:
During the end of the Korean war the Chinese have built a bridge over the Kumsong river to get their main attacking force onto the other shore, Americans come and destroy it, Chinese repair and rebuild it within the next 3 hours. And so it goes for days ad nauseam.
It's a decent war movie although there are some moments, where I was slightly bored. The highlight of the movie nevertheless is the awesome realistic sound of the 2 flak cannons! Turned up the volume to the max, 7.1 channel Dolby surround audio will surely make any neighbour bang their broomstick against the ceiling.
There is also a weak attempt at a love story, but luckily the female radio comms operator is turned into a scorched and crispy piece of bacon soon enough! I hate it when war movies twist into some sort of all-out Pearl Harbor. Fortunately for the viewer the director snuffed it soon enough.
