Dorothy in the Land of Oz (1980 TV Movie)
10/10
A Thanksgiving must-see for Oz fans
6 October 2021
I have been looking for other good Thanksgiving TV specials. Fortunately, I came across this lesser-known animated special on a DVD with another holiday special. I'd ordered it from Amazon, and before Thanksgiving, I had watched "Dorothy in the Land of Oz" and thought it was another good Thanksgiving special.

The story starts after Dorothy returns to Kansas from Oz. She and her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry are about to have the last Thanksgiving dinner they will have before Em and Henry move to the retirement home and Dorothy goes to live with some cousins. But suddenly, Em's mincemeat pie was stolen from the window sill. Dorothy followed the mysterious thief, who turned out to be... the Wizard, her old friend. Since his return to Kansas, the Wizard had fallen on hard times. Made himself a green turkey balloon, but it was an awful-looking thing. Then the balloon took Dorothy and Toto (and the pie) way up into the sky and all the way back to the Land of Oz. In Oz, Dorothy meets a new friend, Jack Pumpkinhead, who tells her of an evil toymaker called Tyrone the Terrible Toy Tinker who wants to destroy the Emerald City. Tyrone had stolen a magic powder, which Jack was guarding, and he had brought the green balloon to life and whisked him and the powder back to Tyrone's lair on Kookala Mountain. Dorothy and Jack try first to warn Queen Ozma, who rules the Emerald City. But Jack thought of using a secret passage to Kookala Mountain and stealing back the powder before Tyrone could bring his toy soldiers to life.

That is all I could tell you, folks; you will have to see this special for yourself to see how it ends. And, overall, I enjoy this TV special from start to finish. And a must-see for Oz fans, like me.
