Review of The Victim

Cannon: The Victim (1975)
Season 5, Episode 5
10/10
CANNON VERSUS THE KNIFE LADY!
9 June 2022
Tag this 10 Stars, and creepy.

One bizarre episode, written exclusively by Jimmy Sangster, who was the British version of Robert Bloch (PSYCHO), a master of suspense and horror films of the 60s and 70s. Previously, he had written three episodes for IRONSIDE.

A psychological trip, all about beautiful Donna Mills playing a singer who has been kidnapped, being held at a strange house in Hollywood. Weird, unpredictabale material for sure and Mills' mood swings are scary. Her odd behavior leads to a most unusual scene when she evens stabs Cannon in the arm, though it looks more like she went for his ribs, depending on the camera angle. Graphic and Cannon is totally caught off guard.

Over the top stuff, but par for the course for someone like Jimmy Sangster.

Prior to this episode, Donna Mills had an excellent part in the tv thriller WHO IS THE BLACK DAHLIA. Perhaps the best mystery ever produced for tv. Top supporting cast, co-starring Joel Fabiani, also Bernard Fox (who all us kids will always remember as Dr. Bombay on BEWITCHED) and Joseph Ryder, another top villain. The stabbing scene with Fox is another surprise. Never thought that would happen.

Applause for Jess Walton (as Janice), making her third series appearance. As of 2023, Jess is still appearing on the YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. One popular actress.

A SANGSTER ending if there ever was. Do not miss it.

SEASON 5 EPISODE 5 remastered color CBS/Paramount dvd box set. Released 2016.
