This was the first time I ever heard of the term 'interpretive dementia'. It was stated by Dr. Pallas (Chris Sarandon) to describe the nature of hallucinations that Father Anton Jonescu (Len Cariou) was experiencing. I'm pretty sure that it was made up for the story, as an internet search for the term only yields a description of dementia by itself. But it sounded good when the alien doctor came up with it. For a while, I thought Father Anton and trash town resident Carlito (Callum Keith Rennie) were seeing real demons, but in keeping with the Outer Limits fascination with invading aliens, they turned out to be visitors from an unnamed planet with a scheme to siphon off Earth's atmosphere in order to save their home world. If you think hard about it, you won't come up with any good reason why they just couldn't have done that without all the middlemen the story called for, with Father Jonescu being asked to hold a worldwide press conference regarding the miraculous healing power he was granted by the aliens. Fortunately, Father John Royce (Louis Ferreira) made the save for Earth when he was able to vanquish the alien doctor with a bit of their own hands-on technique which brought him back from the dead. It wasn't so fortunate for Father Anton though, but given what had already occurred with his subordinate Father John, why couldn't he be brought back from the dead too?
