In 1918 he founded the Madách Theatre, which he became the director of. Between 1920-27 he is the director of Star. At the end of the silent film era he returned to the stage and became the leading director of Belvárosi Színház (Theatre of the Inner City). After the sound picture was introduced his interest turned towards the cinema again. He was the Director of the film school of the National Association for Films and he himself lectured. His true genre is comedy. He called attention to himself back in the twenties with a burlesque made based on the script of Lajos Zilahy, Rongyosok. There are two memorable movie hits associated with his name: Meseautó (1934) and the Budai Cukrászda a (1935).Béla Gaál's extremely successful film, Meseautó (Car of Dreams, 1934) was the first example of Hungarian glamour comedy. The story of the big boss falling in love with his secretary became a model for Hungarian comedies, and was even successful abroad - an English language remake was shot entitled Car of My Dreams.- Mr. James P. Spencer (Kimo or Jimmy) was a very vigorous contributor in the "Golden Age" of Hollywood. He was active in film production and in acting at MGM and other major studios. He had a wonderful film legacy. Mr. Spencer was a native Hawaiian, born 1893 in Honolulu. His English & Scot's father was credited with bringing in the first sewing machines by clipper ships. A young Jimmy Spencer grew up and knew well the Hawaiian Republic with it's Honolulu royal family. His childhood was a happy one. When Mr. Spencer reached early adulthood, he migrated to Los Angeles. There he joined the US Army to fight in WW1.His army unit was the field artillery of the 13th Division. His unit was constituted into the National Army as 39th Field Artillery. The battalion was organized at Camp Lewis, WA. His Army service was exemplary and he rose to the rank of corporal. He was given an honorable discharge. Upon returning home, he became even more active in the local Southern Californian Polynesian community and it's many cultural events. Southern California had become an important focal point for Polynesian peoples. Kimo Spencer was a native Polynesian singer, musician, and dancer. He spoke Hawaiian and several other Pacific island languages. He was very proud of his island native culture. By now after the first world war, many of his old Honolulu friends had also migrated to "The Mainland". Jimmy Spencer had many childhood friends now in the ranks of that day's popular Polynesian performers and athletes. One of his most famous pals was Duke Kahanamoku. 'The Duke", Hawaiian Olympic Gold Medal swimmer and famous surfer. One of their favorite past times was abalone diving off Palos Verde and off Catalina Island's reefs. Large groups of Polynesian friends would gather for beach parties consisting of entertaining each other with their songs and dances from their home island cultures. Around this time, Mr. Spencer started a family by marrying and had two wonderful daughters. In the late 1920's and the early 1930's, Hollywood began to produce a great many "South Sea Island" films. This genre of film was very popular with the Depression Age film-going public. Many great many new up-coming actors got their starts in these island films. Some of those actors were Clark Gable, Jon Hall, Mamo Clark, Ray Mala, Joan Crawford and Loretta Young. Mr. Spencer became a useful contributor due to his personal Polynesian knowledge and artistic contacts. Mr. Spencer worked initially in casting and set direction with these "South Seas" Polynesian films. His duties were casting Polynesian islanders for daily "bit" parts and to cast large amounts of background performers [extras]. Most of his early work was for the studio giant, Metro Goldwyn Mayer. Some of his more legendary MGM films were: "Rain"('31)- Walter Huston and a new Joan Crawford. "Bird of Paradise"('32)- Joel McCrea and a new Delores Del Rio. "The Hurricane"('37)- a new Dorothy Lamour. "Mutiny on the Bounty"('35)- Charles Laughton and a new Clark Gable. "Call of the Wild"('35)- a new Loretta Young and Clark Gable. With his large amount of film industry contacts, Mr. Spencer gradually moved on to become a busy film actor. He was sometimes credited as Jimmy Spencer or Jim Spencer on film call sheets. Due to his exotic looks, he was often cast as an pacific islander or some other "native" role. Later, his acting roles became more recognizable. He would work with some of Hollywood's largest film stars (Jimmy Cagney, George Raft, Joel McCrea, Lucille Ball, Charles Laughton, Greta Garbo) and classic film directors (Fritz Lang, C.B. De Mile). His many acting roles were: · Frozen Justice ('29) ·The Sea God ('30)deep sea diver. ·Pueblo Terror (Cosmos Pictures '31) "Pedro". ·The Jungle Princess (Paramount '36)East Indian big game native. Starring Lola Montez. · Ebb Tide (Paramount '37).cook.Starring Francis Farmer. · Hawk of the Wilderness (Republic Pictures serial '38).island native warrior. · Each Dawn I Die (Warner Bros '39).prison cell-mate. Starring Jeff Chandler. [Released after Spencer's accidental death.] Mr. Spencer was now in his mid-forties. He was getting more substantial acting roles. He was acting with larger film stars. The best example of his acting prowess was in Warner's "Each Dawn I Die", with James Cagney and George Raft. A comfortable film career could be seen for him. Tragically, this was not to be. Mr. Spencer was to accidentally die on a movie set. On 1943 at MGM film studios, a large lamp fell 40 feet and stuck Mr. Spencer. This accident killed him. He was only 50 years old. His funeral was held on 1943. His family had his remains cremated. He was given a veteran's plot at the Los Angeles National Cemetery. Mr. James P. Spencer's life was abundantly filled with family, music, good friends, dance, and a major pride in his Polynesian ancestry. He enthusiastically shared that with all. He found an inexhaustible way to take his many native talents and give them to many people. By his working in the films, he continues to share his work for others to enjoy after he has gone. He was an energetic, fun loving, and creative person. His vocation put him into the Golden Age of MGM. There he showed the best of his talented island culture and island home.

Gilbert Vivian Seldes was an American journalist, music and drama critic, author and playwright. A native of Alliance, New Jersey, and a Harvard graduate, Seldes is best remembered as the author of "The Seven Lively Arts" (1924).
While at Harvard, his roommate, Irving Pichel, wagered one dollar that he could memorize the full text of Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice" faster than Seldes could. Pichel managed the feat in seven days, two days longer than it had taken Seldes.
As a young man, Seldes worked as a critic, columnist and a war correspondent for papers in Philadelphia and New York.
He was also remembered for his books "The Public Arts" and "The Great Audience" and for his translation of Aristophanes' "Lysistrata". Seldes was additionally the author of several murder mysteries under the pen name Foster James.

Chilean poet and novelist Vicente Huidobro was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1893, into one of the most prominent families in the country. He received his education at the Jesuit College of Santiago and in France at the Berthelot Lyceum, where he studied law. He soon changed his studies to medicine, and began writing books and became an editor of several different Chilean magazines. His first volume of poetry, "La Gruta del Silencio", scandalized Chilean critics. He traveled to Paris, and in 1916 co-founded, with Guillaume Apollinaire and Pierre Reveedy, the artistic and literary review "Nord Sud".
He stayed in Paris throughout World War I but left in 1918, worn out by the wartime conditions and tribulations of Paris, and went to Madrid, Spain. When the war ended he returned to Chile. By this time he was a controversial figure in art and literary circles, with passionate defenders and just as passionate detractors.
When the Spanish Civil War erupted in 1937 he returned to Madrid to offer what assistance he could to the Loyalists, and stayed there for three months. After the Loyalist defeat and the takeover of Spain by the fascist forces of Gen. Francisco Franco, he returned to Chile again, settling in Santiago.

Hermann Göring was born on January 12, 1893, in Rosenheim, Bavaria, the son of a prominent judge. He entered the German Royal Military Academy at Gross Lichterfeide outside Berlin in his teens and graduated in 1911. At the beginning of World War I he saw service as an infantry lieutenant but soon transfered to the air corps. During the war he racked up 22 aerial kills, earning the coveted Blue Max and a promotion to commanding officer of Manfred von Richthofen's "Flying Circus" in 1918 after that famous ace was killed in action. In the years following World War I Göring became one of Adolf Hitler's most devoted followers. The former war hero was named head of Hitler's private army, the Brownshirts, a Nazi paramilitary organization similar to the Blackshirt fascist group in Italy commanded by Benito Mussolini, in 1922. Göring took part in the unsuccessful "Beer Hall Putsch" attempt to overthrow the Bavarian state government in 1923, was wounded and spent some time in prison. In 1933, after Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany, Göring became commissioner for aviation and in 1935 commander in chief of the newly established German Air Force (the Luftwaffe). By the opening days of World War II, Göring had built the Luftwaffe into the largest air force in the world. His planes performed superbly in the "blitzkrieg" campaigns against Poland, the Low Countries, Norway and France. In recognition of his work, Göring was promoted to Reichsmarschall (a rank above field marshal) on June 19, 1940. The tall, heavyset Göring became well known for his garish, colorful uniforms and his devotion to the war aims of the Nazi party, rivaled only by Hitler's. Göring didn't confine his efforts on behalf of the Nazi party to purely military matters, however; he also developed much of Nazi Germany's anti-Jewish legislation.
Unfortunately for Göring, his hour of military triumph was short-lived. He seriously botched the Battle of Britain in August and September of 1940 by overestimating the Luftwaffe's capability for long-range combat and underestimating the resolve of Britain's Royal Air Force, which resulted in the loss of huge numbers of his aircraft in daily air raids against England, not to mention the death or capture of thousands of his most experienced bomber crews. During the invasion of the Soviet Union in June of 1941, the Luftwaffe first held the upper hand against the undertrained and underequipped Soviet Air Force. However, it wasn't long before the tide turned, and before long the Russians were turning out thousands of fighters and bombers and inflicting serious damage on the Luftwaffe, which could ill afford such losses. Starting in 1943 Allied bombers had turned the tide of the air war against Germany, and Göring's vaunted Luftwaffe began losing increasing numbers of planes, not to mention experienced pilots, to the US and British air forces, and Allied bombing campaigns smashed many more German aircraft on the ground in addition to destroying many aircraft factories. In April 1945, with the defeat of Germany a certainty, Göring suggested to Hitler that he make peace with the Allies before they brought total destruction to Germany. Enraged, Hitler ordered his arrest. Göring managed to escape from Nazi custody but was captured on May 2, 1945, by soldiers of the U.S. 7th Army. He was eventually tried, convicted and sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during the war crimes trials at Nuremberg late in 1945. His lawyers fought for time with appeals and requests to overturn his death sentence, but they were all denied. On October 15, 1946, just two hours before the former Reichsmarshall was to face the hangman to pay for his crimes, the 53-year-old Hermann Göring committed suicide in his jail cell by taking poison that he somehow had smuggled in with him.- Alfred Rosenberg was born on 12 January 1893 in Reval, Russian Empire [now Tallinn, Estonia]. He was married to Hedwig Kramer and Hilda Elfriede Leesmann. He died on 16 October 1946 in Nuremberg, Germany.
