- A retired detective Václav Gaudl begins to notice some suspicious behavior of the elegant husband of his niece Hedvika. He asks his friend, Lieutenant Colonel Maca, to find out where Professor Horacek is going in his borrowed taxi car. Horacek is a financial expert of foreign trade companies and lectures at the university, Hedvika works as an editor in a publishing house. They live in a large villa, have two cars, a cottage. The wife, who is trying to keep her husband, does not know that he has a young mistress, their lodger Daniela, with whom he goes to the cottage after lectures. When Horácek decides to divorce her, Hedvika creates a hysterical scene in which she first declares that she will never divorce and finally causes an accident in which the young hitchhiker dies. Hedvika persuades her husband to leave the scene of the accident. The man does so because he has no idea that his wife took a picture of him dragging the corpse into the bushes. Professor Horacek decides on a radical solution. He prepares and executes the murder in cold blood.

Petar goes underground. On the day of the liberation, all the residents of the poor man's street celebrate, and Katya and Petar happily reunited. Vaska is there, too, a baby in her arms, the fruit of her love with Yoshkata...

Buslai is the same tyrant in the family, placing insurmountable obstacles between his son Volodya and his beloved Vera - Nikolai joins in the fight against the vicious methods of Buslai's leadership. But it's not easy to fight with the chairman. He is appreciated in the republic, they go to study. He himself believed in his infallibility. But one day disaster strikes. Buslay sends his son, who hasn't had enough sleep after his journey, on another trip. Volodya falls asleep at the wheel, and the car goes downhill. The death of his son forces Buslai to reconsider his whole life, to understand his mistakes.
