- Old gossip Beverly arrives with a "funny feeling." The barbershop is then held up by two struggling teens, armed with guns.

Pacey then sets out to ruin Mr. Peterson by investigating and challenging his authority with a code of conduct book over his teaching methods. Also, Jen thinks that Ty may not be the guy for her when she sees little amusement in his stereotypical comments especially over Jack's true sexual orientation, while Grams is surprisingly understanding and supportive.
- On Spring Break, the gang flies down to Florida to party at a beach house owned by Audrey's parents. Here, Audrey and Pacey go through their first relationship test when Audrey's old high school boyfriend, Chris, shows up with tickets for a concert where she is torn with the memories of the past and her present situation. Charlie unexpectedly shows up to try to spend some time with Joey, while Jen spends most of the week in bed suffering from a bad cold, and Jack spends his time getting drunk and refuses to talk about what's bothering him. Meanwhile, Dawson and Oliver are on the road driving towards New York to meet with a film agent who's interested in their movie Dawson spends the time telling Oliver his whole life story about him and Joey with hopes that there lies some reconciliation.
- The pilot for the popular TV series is set during 24 frantic hours in the lives of a group of doctors, nurses, and staff members of a busy emergency room at a Chicago hospital. They deal with the seemingly endless casualties that stumble into their place of employment. The central characters are the chief resident and family man Dr. Mark Greene, who is considering a job in private practice due to pressure from his demanding law student wife Jennifer; outgoing Dr. Doug Ross, who deals with cases in his own personal way; straight-arrow Dr. Susan Lewis, trying to get by another long 36-hour shift; inexperienced third-year med student John Carter; cocky surgical resident Dr. Peter Benton; and troubled chief nurse Carol Hathaway.
- Morning shift begins. The night shift treated 142 patients - a new record. Dr. Morris is confident that by the end of the day the ER can set a new record of 300 patients. Frank reminds him that there has never been more than 250 patients in a day. Dr. Morris bets $300 that they can reach 300 by the end of the shift. Frank, Dr. Gates and Dr. Pratt each bet $100 against him. But will the game be fair? Also, when chaplain Dupree arrives announcing that she's doing a round of the hospital, holding blessing ceremonies and memorials, the guys are against it, except for Dr. Gates, which makes the others suspicious. Frank goes straight to the point. Then there is the accident involving a camel.

- Steven Callahan departs from El Hierro in the Canary Islands, in Napoleon Solo - a sloop he designed and built himself. He's bound for Antigua as part of the Mini Transat 6.50 single-handed sailing race from Penzance, England. One night a ferocious storm severely damages his boat. He escapes the sinking vessel in an inflatable life-raft, nicknamed Ducky, with a meagre supply of food and water. For 76 days he is adrift in the Atlantic Ocean at the mercy of the currents and winds. During his ordeal he is battered by the elements, attacked by sharks and plagued by constant punctures to his raft. It's an epic story where one man's will to survive is put to the ultimate test.
- Susan Lewis' boyfriend Div Cvetic, a psychiatric resident at County General, seems to be under a great deal of stress regularly lashing out at everyone. Doug Ross takes over for Mark Greene who takes a day off to be with his wife. He has a hard time keeping up with all the paperwork. John Carter is increasingly frustrated with Peter Benton who never seems to invite him to participate in surgeries. Benton learns the result of the fellowship he applied for and his mother shows up in the ER with a sprained ankle. Carol Hathaway treats a patient who was raped. A new ER aide, Bob, start work.
- The story of Monica Kristensen, who followed in the footsteps of Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole (1911). Her voyage was a dangerous one, involving mid-ocean refueling of the expeditions aircraft on an iceberg. Packed ice closed around the group's ship and caused delays. On reaching their set off point, they traveled 1800 miles by sledge, over the Ross Ice Shelf, before facing the Heiberg glacier - Antartica itself. However, although the route to the South Pole lay beyond, the wild winter weather was approaching. Monica and her team had to decide to risk going forward, or turn back, wasting years of planning.

At the free clinic, Carol Hathaway has to deal with the case of an underage high school student who is sleeping with her 40-year-old teacher. Peter Benton hits a pedestrian with a car but Carter helps him out with an important piece of information.
- The program explores the extent to which United Nations officials and commanders in Bosnia put the safety of their troops ahead of their responsibility to the civilians in Srebrenica. Although Srebrenica was designated as a United Nations safe haven, the Serbian forces apparently massacred Bosnian Muslims after they captured the city in July, 1995.

Billy invites Claire to move to his place. David and Keith are discussing the alternative for their baby, adoption or to rent a belly. Rico misses a steady relationship while dating women from an Internet site.
- Frasier and Niles are thrilled to catch sight of T.H. Houghton, a reclusive author from their youth. They are aggravated, however, when Martin forms a friendship with the man but they are consistently unable to meet him.

Bessie finds out and berates Joey about the risks of sex. Also, Jack and Andie are coaching a little league of soccer kids, and he soon lands in an awkward situation when a teammate's older sister starts to flirt with him. He feels pressured to tell her that he's gay, but he soon regrets it when most of the parents turn out to be homophobic.
- Just three months into a new relationship, Roger Sargeant, his new girlfriend Shelly and her two young daughters Tiffany (9) and Michaela (5) are on a day trip in the Arizona desert. Things go badly wrong when they get lost and are then forced to abandon their car. In a desperate bid to walk out they become separated. - On a busy Halloween night, Carter and Abby are the only staffers in costume when victims of an apartment building fire pack the ER. Corday takes on a new med student for a surgical rotation - Paul Nathan, who suffers from Parkinson's disease and decided to pursue medicine after being diagnosed. Despite a difficult first day, both professionally and medically, Nathan makes a difficult diagnosis. Romano's rehab lags behind his expectations, and he begins to think his role in surgery is no longer an option. In a moment of personal weakness, he tries to express his feelings for Corday. Weaver continues to display erratic behavior, raising staff suspicions about her menopause. Luka's burgeoning sex addiction worsens, as an affair with Chuny is revealed, and tensions rise when he treats a patient with a perpetual erection.
- Kovac reacts negatively when he sees Abby giving extra attention to a patient; Ray and Gates clash over a patient, pinning Neela in the middle; and Ben takes things to the next level with Sam. Meanwhile, Pratt is under investigation and Weaver says a final goodbye to the ER.

Also, the trouble-making Jen and Abby crash the ceremony to steal some food and liquor for another night out which eventually leads to tragedy.
