- Harry is selling the hardware store. It comes as a shock to the guys that gather there for man talk and tools. Al owns a percentage of the store, and Tim buys the rest. The business starts slow and then grows more than they can handle.
- Roseanne narrates a video for her baby and wants everyone in the family to have a part in it. Darlene and Becky find Dan and Roseanne's old love letters. Fred is determined to seem intelligent and interesting to Jackie but only succeeds in making her feel more crushed by their divorce. Dan attempts to comfort Jackie while Mark prepares a special dinner for the family.
- Nana Mary visits Roseanne and Jackie at Jackie's house, and brings a box of their childhood belongings. Among them was a doll that Jackie thought was lost forever, and causes a huge fight when Jackie realizes that Roseanne was the one who hid it from her all those years ago out of jealousy. Dan has a poker game at the house, and Roseanne convinces him to invite Leon and Scott, but is worried that they will spend the whole night nagging each other like housewives. The men have a spirited discussion about how blacks, gays, and poor white men are looked upon in this country.
- Heidi has marital problems. Tim suggests that Al take Heidi out and talk with her. Heidi confides in Al, and he talks and listens to her. They become good friends. Tim wonders if there is more going on between them. At home, Jill has a cold.
- Brad joins the school newspaper where Randy is considered a top writer. Brad writes a light-hearted article about sports, and it gets put on the front page - pushing Randy's serious article to a back page. Randy is upset.
- The Conners are selected to be a "Nielsen Family". Roseanne, who is going through a nesting period in her pregnancy, insists that the family watch only educational-type programming to prove to the Nielsen people that they are not white trash. After Dan breaks the couch, Roseanne accepts a hand-me-down couch from her mother, but soon regrets it. Jackie and Fred make a life-altering decision.
- Fred is still angry and bitter about his separation from Jackie while Jackie is beginning to see the sliver lining and starts going on outings that Fred never enjoyed. Meanwhile, Roseanne begins meddling in order to get the two of them back together but begins to regret it when she realizes how unsure Jackie is that she even loves Fred anymore.
- Tim and Jill purchase another house for rental property. Tim uses it for a renovation show on Tool Time. Al wants to save all the older, custom parts of the house; he wants to rent the house.
- Binford Tools hires a new manager to oversee the Tool Time Show. He wants Tim to have more explosions. Tim is against this. And, Al proposes to Trudy. He takes his mother to dinner to break the news to her.
- Fred tells Jackie that he doesn't want D.J. to visit their house so much, because he gets weirder every time he comes over. To protect Fred, Jackie tells Roseanne that she is the one who has a problem with D.J. constantly being at her house, which infuriates Roseanne. Dan tricks Darlene into coming home for the weekend and tries to make the girls stop bickering for their mother's sake. D.J. expresses a strange new fascination with eating cardboard.
- Jill's sister Carrie stays with the Taylor's while in town for business. Tim's brother Jeff is over for dinner. Carrie and Jeff start seeing each other, and Jill does not think Jeff is good enough for her sister.
- Tim is picking colors for his rebuilt convertible. Jill is asked to appear on a woman's talk show. She tries to explain Tim to the audience and it embarrasses and hurts Tim.
- Jill wants Tim to convert their attic into office space for her. Tim is enthused, but then Jill changes her mind. They each come to realize why he needs to build it, and why she does not want it built.

- The green-eyed monster emerges in force between David and Mark when they both become interested in Stacy, a waitress at the Lunch Box, whom David asks to pose for a wall mural. Jackie thinks her sex life with Fred needs spicing up while Fred is happy leaving well enough alone.
- Wilson tells Tim his secret that he once saw a spaceship and aliens. Tim tells the others, who then all start to ridicule Wilson. Wilson feels betrayed and stops talking to Tim. Tim finds a way to apologize.
- Tim takes Wilson to a hockey game for Wilson's birthday. Wilson wins $10,000 by sitting in the raffle seat. He wants a greenhouse in his backyard. Tim realizes the plans block the fence. He fears the loss of conversation with Wilson.
- Trouble starts when the Binford CEO (Bud) confiscates all "non-Binford" tools from the set of "Tool Time" in an effort to make Tim into more of a company man. He also dictates that the cast of the show wear Binford uniforms. This leads to the usual mess. Brad finds out that he is still up for soccer scholarship to college, despite a prior injury. Conflicts arise between Tim and Jill over whether or not Brad is ready to play in the upcoming game before the UCLA scout.
- After being arrested for D.U.I., Beverly is forced to attend Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) meetings, where she discovers that she might really be an alcoholic. This new realization does not bode well for the family, since Roseanne is forbidding anyone to drink while Beverly is in the house, which quickly puts an end to Dan's Super Bowl party. Dan, Jackie, and Fred sneak out to the garage to drink and watch the game on an old portable TV, until Beverly catches them, and pitches a fit, prompting Roseanne to pitch a fit, or two, of her own.
- Roseanne discovers that Darlene is seeing someone besides David, and that he knows about it, so she encourages David to fight for his relationship. Dan confides in Jackie that he is unsure how he feels about Roseanne's pregnancy, and finds comfort, but when he tells Roseanne about his insecurities, it blows up in his face. Roseanne confides in Jackie that she is having the same doubts.
- The Conners receive a small inheritance from their Great-Aunt Harriet and decide to spend it on a nice dinner out. The evening takes a dark turn when Darlene unexpectedly comes home. She spends most of her time alienating and insulting her family until a surprising fact about her is revealed and her family bites back.
- While Marty and his daughters are staying with Tim and Jill, everyone becomes exasperated with Claire's selfishness and tantrums.
- Mark tries to cheer up a glum Becky by inviting the family over for a surprise get-together. As the night goes on, Becky's mood only worsens which prompts Roseanne to pull her aside for a heart-to-heart talk. Becky admits she feels like she missed her chance to go to college and become a therapist or an EMT. Becky even admits to having second thoughts about her marriage to Mark.
- Roseanne and Jackie go to Chicago for Parents' Day to surprise Darlene, and hoping to meet her new boyfriend Jimmy. David wants to learn how to be tough in order to compete with Darlene's boyfriend, a boxer, for her affections. Roseanne assigns Dan to help David feel good about just being himself. D.J. is getting bullied at school but refuses to learn to fight back, fearing that getting hit will hurt. Fred is impressed with Dan's parenting until he figures out that Dan is only doing what Roseanne tells him.
- Brad is excited to finally get his first car, but when it's stolen and stripped, Tim is determined to track down the culprits.
