- The late summer of 1918. Paul, Willi and Heinrich from an age-old German town are good friends, although there is a great deal that divides them. Heinrich comes from an officer's family with an army tradition and is preparing to enter cadet college. Paul's father and grandfather are workers, and Willi, left to depend on himself, works as a hotel messenger. The last year of the war is hard for everyone, but while Paul and Willi know their own minds and do not hesitate to help the war fugitives Tony and Sepp, for Heinrich everything is more complicated.
- The construction of the new dam deprived the ferryman Ryba of his trade. The new dam replaced the ferry. However, Ryba's ancestors were ferrymen and the old man would have liked his two sons to take up the same profession. But Josef is an indecisive weakling and Karel found work on the dam. That's why old Ryba drove him out of the house. The persistent rain brings Ryba miserable joy. The man knows well that a sudden flood can endanger the unfinished dam. In his fanatical hatred, he forgets that the water from a broken dam would sweep away his house and his daughter-in-law and sick grandchild in the first place.
- After the end of the Second World War, the fighting continued in some parts of the world, as colonized countries struggled for independence. In the setting for this film, Indonesian soldiers have already won freedom for the island of Java, but on Kalimantan, called Borneo by the colonizers, Dutch soldiers remain. One day they bombard a village and only the Indonesian Captain Bitah survives. Under dramatic circumstances, he manages to reach Java on a raft. There, he establishes a small partisan unit dropped from an airplane over the Kalimantan jungle. During the descent, one of the paratroopers is severely injured and another one, the telegraphist Sarto, loses the transmitter in the moorland. Dutch soldiers find the parachute and begin to pursue the partisans.
- A retired detective Václav Gaudl begins to notice some suspicious behavior of the elegant husband of his niece Hedvika. He asks his friend, Lieutenant Colonel Maca, to find out where Professor Horacek is going in his borrowed taxi car. Horacek is a financial expert of foreign trade companies and lectures at the university, Hedvika works as an editor in a publishing house. They live in a large villa, have two cars, a cottage. The wife, who is trying to keep her husband, does not know that he has a young mistress, their lodger Daniela, with whom he goes to the cottage after lectures. When Horácek decides to divorce her, Hedvika creates a hysterical scene in which she first declares that she will never divorce and finally causes an accident in which the young hitchhiker dies. Hedvika persuades her husband to leave the scene of the accident. The man does so because he has no idea that his wife took a picture of him dragging the corpse into the bushes. Professor Horacek decides on a radical solution. He prepares and executes the murder in cold blood.

- The young heroes of the series come from a provincial town and now study in Warsaw. Malgosia is a first-year chemistry student at the Warsaw University of Technology and lives in a student dormitory. Raised in the so-called good home, she rarely felt happy there. Her mother monitored her at every step, sometimes even checking the contents of her purse and making a fuss about every late return home. Her father treated his only daughter with greater tenderness and tolerance, but he was often away on business, so she had no support from him either. Andrzej is finishing his studies at the Faculty of Animal Science of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW), and he lives with his aunt. After his mother's death, his father raised him alone, but they could never find a common language.
- In a young socialist pioneers' camp Artek there are children from all over the world. Yura, a boy from Belarus, promises the Czech girl Zdena to catch her a bear cub in the virgin forest close to his home village, and send it to Prague for her. After they all return home, Zdena stubbornly reminds him of his promise. Yura gets many postcards from Prague with bears on them, painted by children whom the girl has proudly told about the promised gift. Yura's friend Mikhas agrees to help the boy with the hunt but they need time.
- The town is waking up. The bus driver Josef Král is saying goodbye to his wife Vera who is in a state of advanced pregnancy. At the rolling mill, the master craftsman Mares is preparing for retirement, which is now only two days away. Elderly Simon who grows and sells vegetables at the market has problems with his wife. Their little home has to give way to a new development but the wife Simonka refuses to move out. The chairman of the workers'council has troubles with the miner Adam, who has started drinking. He doesn't know that Adam is getting divorced and fears he may lose his young son to his wife.
- Eduard Lebeda (Lubomír Lipský) works at the dispatch department of a costume jewelery factory, but first and foremost, he is an enthusiastic member of the voluntary auxiliary police guards. In the evening, as usual, he heads for the streets of the little town to direct the traffic with his police control disk. Before he leaves, he confiscates his small son's matches. The matches have a label with two tigers on it. In front of the self-service store, two men load cases onto a lorry with the German trademark Garant. Lebeda fails to notice their nervousness and helps them with their work. He lends the matches to the driver. The roaring of a departing motorbike diverts his attention and the lorry drives off. The next day a rumor spreads about a robbery in the self-service store and Lebeda realizes that he has been an accomplice.
- Years 1851-1856: events from the life of Czech writer Bozena Nemcová, who, because of her free-thinking views and strong patriotic feelings, comes into conflict with the society, the church and the Austrian authorities.
- In the South Bohemian little town, young Lenka (Lenka Machoninová) prepares for her meeting with Pavel (Ivan Vyskocil), who is visiting her from Prague. She invites her girlfriend Markéta (Miluse Voborníková) to accompany her to the date. Pavel is not alone, either - his friend Honza (Viktor Sodoma) arrived with him on a scooter. The young people walk through the forest and have a bath in the small forest lake. As the day goes, it becomes gradually clear that both the boys are interested in the more attractive Markéta.
- Private clairvoyant Mathias Scibolini carries out his work with honesty and to the full satisfaction of his clients. When he and other clairvoyants are affiliated under one communal enterprise, he continues his work under his ordinary name Matej Sibolín. The affiliation causes insurmountable administrative work, the clairvoyant services become slapdash and the clients are not happy. After work hours, however, they are able to visit the clairvoyant's flat where everything is as it was before.
- In a music studio a jazz band records blues. David (Juraj Nvota) speaks to the sound master Josífek (Walter Taub) about a program which is devoted to the important Czech artist, writer and dramatic expert Emil Frantisek Burian. It is at the exhibition in an exhibition house U Hybernu that David learns about Burian's personality more. On photographs and period documents, completed by archives snaps, slides, commentary and remembrances of Burian's collaborators, there is presented the life and work of this avant-garde artist.
- At the international magicians' festival in Carlsbad Richard shows a number of the famous magician Vili Brod, who stayed in Carlsbad from 1926 to 1938. In these times the time went slowly and easily and the guests of the world-known spa did not want to know anything about the restless world outside the spa. Vili (Jirí Hrzán) and his partner Vilma (Jana Brezková) make their number Twelve exchanges - twelve springs - twelve cups - twelve roses every night in the hall of the Varieté Orfeus better and better. One night he fails in his show and both artists are fired.
- Jan Bernard (Vladimír Ráz) reports to the district police department that his wife Hilda did not return from visiting her sister in East Berlin. For young investigator Tereza Machátová (Jirina Svorcová), this is the first serious case; she was hitherto responsible only for petty crime and juvenile delinquents. The testimonies given by neighbors, relatives, acquaintances and Bernard's colleagues gradually begin to constitute the complete image of the events preceding Hilda's disappearance. At the same time, Bernard was to leave for a business trip to Italy, but the trip was canceled for business reasons. Tereza's superior, Captain Landa (Gustav Heverle), who trusts Bernard far less than does the young investigator, suspects him of planning emigration - for it seems that Hilda has illegally crossed the border to West Germany.
