Two other people are murdered before Ordway discovers who replaced the insulin with poison and what the motive was.

Three deaths occur with the first two being typhoid-caused but the death of the third person, Ward Beachey, is a case of poisoning. Orday learns that Beachey was the town Romeo with many enemies and that most of those had access to the poison. Doc Millerson, who has a suspicion who the guilty party is, receives a note in a woman's handwriting requesting a meeting at the river bank. He goes there and is killed in an ambush by a rifle shot. Following the note as a clue, Ordway visits the house of Ezra Minnich and traps Minnich's young daughter into confessing that her father made her write the note. Minnich confesses he had killed Beachey for trying to break up his home and Doc Millerson because he suspected him.

Finally an Indian woman, L-Ana, helps Bill, but he is unable to get the radio working. Jim and Ike fly over the jungle, but a storm prevents them from spotting the village, so they continue on to Rio Vista. The two men meet Joan and for her sake, Jim organizes a rescue expedition. Led by natives, the convoy finds a village holding a doctor captive. A fierce battle follows and the doctor is freed from his captors. Meanwhile, Bill, despondent over his predicament, has taken on the native's ways by marrying L-ana. Jim's expedition finally locates the tribe, but when he sees Bill's living arrangements, the two men argue. Bill is ready to thoughtlessly desert L-ana, but as he leaves the village, L-ana's brother kills him. After returning to Rio Vista, Jim tells Joan that he learned Bill had died in the crash, sacrificing himself to avoid landing in a field full of women and children, many of whom might have died.

Heading for the Great Lakes, he becomes ill in the cab operated by Ernie Sparrow an is taken to a clinic where he meets nurse Joan Martin, who is engaged to intern Fred Graham. Doctors now tell him he has only a few months to live and advise him to go to Maine (where, evidently, it will seem longer.) He asks Joan to marry him, promising to leave her his fortune. She, no dummy, accepts but hard-loser Fred doesn't like it even though she says she is doing it for him. After six months of living in a lighthouse with only Joan and Sparrow, whom he has hired as his aide, Sinclaie seemingly regains his health and has really fallen in love with Joan. She tells him she can no longer tolerate the loneliness just as Fred arrives for a visit, and John invites him to stay. In a chess game, John facetiously outlines to Fred how he would murder him if he chose to. Fred, decides to beat him to the punch and enters his bedroom that night and attempts to kill John with a poker. The figure in the bed turns out to be a dummy and John, who has been hiding, clubs Fred to death. He tries to throw the body from the bedroom window but it won't open and, planning to return and force it open later, he carries the body to the rocks and then hits Fred's head with a stone. Returning to the lighthouse, John meets Sparrow and tells him that Fred fell from a window but Sparrow knows all the windows have been nailed shut. And Joan, who saw John carry the body out, has summoned the police.

With only a glove, with diamonds stuck in the thumb, as a clue, and while evading the police and other characters after him and the diamonds, Reynolds finally runs down the guilty party and clears himself.

When a typhoid epidemic is shrugged off by Hazard as a mere summer ailment. Meade then takes on the task of overcoming superstition, opposition, ignorance and herbal remedies , in order to save many lives. And nearly gets lynched in the process.

The blackmailing seamen are killed at a waterfront café after getting the blackmail money, Rogers is suspected and Inspector Queen arrives to arrest him, but he is also found dead.

- John Raglan is a seal hunter being hounded by hijackers, so he strands himself on an isolated island in the Bering Sea that is owned by a corporation. During a fierce sea-storm, Raglan rescues the passengers of a floundering ship, which includes the owner of the island, his daughter and her fiancée. The owner threatens to charge Ragland with poaching on private property, and then a gang of seal-skin thieves make an entrance.

A couple of sailors send him to a local dive, where he overhears a disreputable sailor named Johnson planning to steal the treasure from a sunken ship after it is salvaged by Captain McCall. When Richard meets pretty Ann McCall, the captain's daughter, as she chases after her pet monkey, he decides to stow away on McCall's ship, where Johnson and his band of cutthroats are also on board. Once they are out at sea, Richard's hiding place is revealed when he saves Ann from an attack by Johnson. The radio man, one of Johnson's crew, intercepts a telegram warning McCall about Johnson. The crooks change the message to implicate Richard. They then decide to kill Richard by arranging a diving accident, but the attempt is unsuccessful, and when Richard recognizes Johnson as Killer Lundgren, the man who committed the murder that sent him to prison, he subdues the gang with the help of black sailor, Big Tim. Back in port, Richard thinks that he will have to turn himself in, but when the police meet the ship, they tell him that he is cleared, as they know the murderer was really Johnson. Richard is now free to return Ann's love.
