A fight ensues in the wedding reception between Louie and Max, and when a heater is knocked over a fire starts. With the reception uncontrollably ablaze, embers from the reception fly over onto boathouse which Dylan and Zoe are in. The boathouse catches fire and Zoe and Dylan must jump into the river to save themselves - but Dylan forgets his lucky talisman and runs back for it. Zoe is in the water right next to the boat, but the weight of her dress holds her under, drowning her. Seconds later and before Dylan can escape there's two massive explosions from the boathouse.
- Connie fights to save Charlie's life. Duffy inspires Louise to become a nurse. Gang violence spills through the hospital doors, endangering more lives.

- Baz beds young old flame Ricky, but it's strictly a one nighter as far as she's concerned. The staff hold a protest outside a local cinema showing unsavoury films with nurses.
- Nurse Rachel Longworth joins the Holby team; Ash is promoted; Karen falls asleep on duty and a doting mother rushes her unwell child into Casualty but not all is as it first appears.

- It's all happening at Holby: patients claiming to be virgins in a sexual relationship, an alcoholic man who can't remember yesterday, and Duffy comes face to face with the man who raped her (in Series One) when he is brought into A&E in a critical condition.
- The night shift at Holby is closed down but that doesn't stop the staff from campaigning to get it re-opened. Duffy is successful when she applies for the post of sister at rival hospital St. Stephens, much to Ewart's disappointment, and Ted and Megan are seen to be having some problems in their relationship.
- Tina and Sean eventually find each other in Australia, while back in Holby, Holly is involved in a road accident.
- Mike Barratt has returned; and we are introduced to new doctor Richard & nurse Gloria. Baz needs an emergency caesarean to deliver baby Louis. Future Casualty and Holby City top dog Jac Naylor actress Rosie Marcel appears as a woman who's lost a tampon internally. Eastenders' star Jake Wood appears as a villain involved in a warehouse robbery that goes seriously wrong. A husband leaves his wife who is on the verge of a nervous breakdown and who takes extreme measures to keep her two children quiet.
- When several patients start filtering into Holby hospital with similar burn wounds and all being tight-lipped about the details of their accidents, the staff become suspicious. Meanwhile, the medical personnel on the A&E ward are having to deal with managements justification of the night-shift routine which is under threat. Leaning slightly on the personal lives of the staff rather than the storyline contained within the episode, however, it was a decent pilot which sets up the interesting characters and their backgrounds nicely for further episodes.
- A disastrous Guy Fawkes party results in numerous casualties including Valerie Sinclair.
- Matt is slightly worried when a former boyfriend of Jude's is admitted having sustained a head injury while trying to obtain a bent MoT. New boy Sam starts work. Casualty Car Crash#46 occurs when a man falls asleep at the wheel having been dosed up with pills by his wife. When a manipulative young woman requests that her boyfriend steals eggs from an eagle's nest, he and another climber fall from a rock face.
- When Baz is seen leaving a specialist clinic with an attractive young man word quickly starts to spread around Holby which results in a frosty reception from Charlie. Kuba's good intentions are met with an equally frosty response. And an elderly man, known to the staff, finds his way onto the ward wanting to die and requests his daughter (a nurse) put him out of his misery.
- It's an emotional roller coaster of a day for Rash as events take their toll on staff and patients alike. Dylan struggles in his role as clinical lead, and Archie is desperate to impress Dylan but instead accepts friendship from Will.(BBC)

- Josh pays a visit to the remains of his house; he and Liz are called out to a woman who has overdosed on antifreeze. Although the department appears to be overrun with new faces, Charlie asks management for more staff. Richard getting an anaesthetics posting is apparently known to all except Gloria, who is most displeased. The new mural is unveiled to an audience including a press git who sneers at Charlie over bosomgate. Other casualties include two old dears one of whom crashes her invalid carriage in casualty's car park, the other having a mole she fears is malignant. A young woman is initially pleased to be asked to identify a corpse as that of her abuser junkie step father. Kate is threatened with a knife by the female half of an arguing couple. Jude is found stabbed and bleeding to death.
- Duffy is back at work after her attack and confides in Megan, who herself is on the ward undergoing treatment for her cancer. An amateur boxing match ends with the winner being rushed to Holby in a critical condition, and an elderly alcoholic woman suffers from internal bleeding. Whilst all this is going on, ambulance driver Ponting receives the news that his wife has left him having discovered his affair with parademic Sandra Mute, who has dumped him for a 4'11" jockey and jetted off to Llandudno!

A pick-pocket prisoner (Kenneth Cope) also attends the casualty department under police guard with a suspected heart attack, but the staff are unconvinced it is genuine; and an elderly woman suffering from a gangrenous foot is admitted to the hospital by her son who insists she receives private care.
- After contacting her long lost father and meeting a brother she didn't know she had, Penny gets a letter from her father. He wants no contact with her.
- The partial collapse of a tower block brings many casualties; and a very unpleasant person from Maggie's past returns to work alongside her.
