Meanwhile, Rebecca gets into a car accident, which turns out to be staged by an insurance fraud ring, and Ellinor represents a scientist trying to save her ape from being killed by a science lab.
- Bobby spends the night at Helen's. While they are in bed, someone calls Helen and leaves a message on her machine. It's the police telling her they're going to bust someone, which Bobby overhears. And the person who's going to be busted is one of his clients. He tells Eugene who tells him that he's duty bound to tell the client. He tells the client and because of that they were ready for the police and some of them were killed. Helen says that Bobby was the one who told about the bust. So Bobby is arrested. Initially he was charged with something minor but later they decided to charge him with murder. So with Eugene as his counsel, they decide to let the judge decide if he's guilty.
- With Lindsay's conviction now overturned, Bobby realizes they can never win with a new trial, and tries to make a deal with Walsh to no avail. Helen tries to convince Walsh to take the deal, and accidentally comes across some information that might turn the tables. - Alan invites Shelia (Sharon Stone) to join the practice. She takes the case of a cuckolded husband. Brad Stanfield shocks Ellen with the truth. She conveys it to Alan, who takes it to the D.A., thereby risking disbarment.

Helen Gamble prosecutes two boys accused of rape and murder, each accusing the other, and ends up making a deal with the wrong one.
- A documentary crew records the attorneys as they fight to win a stay of execution for a man convicted of murdering a young girl.
- Bobby's senior prom date is arrested for prostitution. Ellenor represents a little girl who was thrown out of school because of a disability.
- Joey Herric returns to the firm, surprising everybody when he declares he has passed the bar, and is now a lawyer. He asks for Bobby and Ellenor's help in his first trial, a murder case, where he represents a man accused of killing a woman he was having an affair with. As the trial progresses, they become frustrated when Joey doesn't seem to really be needing their help - until the real reason he wanted them to be there is finally revealed.
- Bobby has a client that reveals privileged information that can be revealed by Bobby in the event the client dies. When the client does not show up for trial, Bobby makes an assumption that puts his client as the main suspect on a new case.
- Hellen gets stuck with a vehicular manslaughter case, of a rich man who hit a homeless man in the street, and sped away. Rebecca is about to get an award for her actions regarding animal rights, but finds out the award might get taken away, after she kills a rat in the office. Eugene defends a gang member who accidentally killed his friend during a gang initiation. Finally, Lindsay drops a bomb during a staff meeting, demanding equity in the firm.
- Bobby represents Jenny and Richard Baldwin against a pedophile about to be released from prison, who they believe kidnapped their son 18 years earlier. The couple wants Bobby to use a civil lawsuit to force him to tell them what happened to their son - a trial that ends with shocking results. Meanwhile, Jimmy is desperate to scrape up the money to pay his bookie, and ends up stealing from a client to do so.
- Jimmy and Jamie defend an elderly man, retired dock worker Walter Josephson, who is accused of killing a member of the local Irish mob, and Alan Shore agrees to help his friend Dwight Haber - by any means necessary - who discovers his lawyer wife Eve is cheating on him.
- Eugene and Jamie represent a very pregnant woman who claims she killed her husband in defense of her unborn child. Jimmy helps Claire on a case where a 10-year old girl has been disabled after a fall from a balcony. Lindsay makes a final decision about her marriage.

Jimmy agrees to represent an old girlfriend who sold her eggs on the Internet and is suing a man who now refuses to pay. His old feelings for her are awaken, which forces him to reexamine his his relationship with Judge Kittleson.
- In a personally and racially charged trial, Rebecca defends an old boyfriend, a police officer, who is accused of murder after shooting a man to death in a store, convinced he was about to rob the place. Lindsay sues a cigar company for breaking up a marriage, and reveals her fears about her own relationship with Bobby.
- Eugene and his ex-wife battle for custody of their son, when Sharon claims Eugene's job is having a bad influence on Kendall. Hellen prosecutes a man for stealing a car, but slowly becomes suspicious that the alleged victim is lying. Rebecca represents a psychologist who was fired from his job after he became cross-eyed, due to a head injury.
- Eugene defends a man accused of rape, who claims the real rapist is his identical twin brother. Meanwhile, Lawrence O'Malley, the Hannibal Lecter copycat, continues to terrorize Lindsay, until she decides to take matters into her own hands.
- With Lindsay and Bobby's help, Jimmy defends his personal friend, dentist Henry Olson, when he is tried for murdering a woman who was found dead in his chair. Hostile ADA Richard Bay tries to prove the two were having an affair, when in fact their relationship was a lot more complicated than he could possibly imagine. Meanwhile, decapitator George Vogelman returns, asking for Ellenor's help when his co-op serves him with a eviction notice.
- In a crossover episode with "Gideon's Crossing", Ellenor turns to Dr. Ben Gideon, due to some complications with her pregnancy. Helen prosecutes 11 year-old Amanda McGowan's rapist, while doing her best to keep her off the witness stand and protect her from being even further traumatized. Bobby represents a man accused of killing his step daughter, with whom he was having an affair.
- James Whitmore as Raymond Oz, an elderly attorney (on a par with Denny Crane's antics) who asks Bobby to second chair as he is having memory issues. Oz is brash, witty and quite the showman in court. Eugene is defending a despicable client who murdered two young children. His revelation to his attorney, Eugene, in court and Eugene's reaction is a surprising moment. Balducci's actress client is a heartthrob of his youth their exchanges provide some sweet moments.
- Eugene is assigned a horrifying case of a man accused of killing a woman and then raping her lifeless corpse. Getting more and more angry, Eugene must come to terms with the reality of his job and the effect it has on his personal life. Meanwhile, Jimmy defends an old friend of his, being sued by a former employee for violating his privacy and announcing to the entire company that he has AIDS. However, as the trial progresses, Jimmy realizes he had hidden reasons for doing so.

Kelton, an on again-off-again lover of Lindsay drugs her wine with a date rape drug to enliven her sexual performance without her permission.
- Bobby takes on Richard Bay in the long anticipated Wallace retrial. With the video tape being admitted, Bobby has no choice but to put an increasingly erratic Scott Wallace on the stand. The entire episode is shown through the eyes of a news crew, making a documentary about the trial.

Meanwhile, Ellenor tries to bring in a big client to the firm, and is enraged when she is voted down by Bobby and Lindsay.

Roberta Baylor comes to seek Rebecca's help again, when her son is suspended from school, after passing a sexually explicit note about a girl in his class. Meamwhile, Lucy tries to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.
- Bobby is called to defend his close friend, Scott Wallace, who is accused of killing his wife, and becomes overly involved in the case. Helen is concerned Richard has crossed the line in the case, when a witness coached by him lies on the stand.

Once the ad hits the airwaves, the hall is full of potential clients and the most surprising one is his Mom who decides to tell her son that she wants to marry again and her lover is a woman. A man wants to sue his female dentist who he says sexually molested him pushing against the "rape shield laws". Also, a rape victim's testimony is attacked by Eugene who represents the supposed perpetrator.
- Bobby is defending a man accused of shooting a police officer, but is still haunted by a previous case. Jamie represents a client who is arrested on a minor drug charge, and the case comes down to whether or not the client's 4th Amendment rights have been violated or not.
- Eugene and Jimmy continue their defense of white supremacist Jonathan Macklin, when the case takes a surprising turn. Alan and Tara try to help Roland Huff, who is fast unraveling. Jamie questions her relationship with Eugene.

- While presiding over a case Bobby is handling, Judge Kittleson call him into her chambers and informs him she had an extremely erotic dream about him. After he makes it clear his not interested in her, Bobby begins to feel her rulings are biased against him. Meanwhile, Hellen prosecutes a TV news producer as an accessory to murder, when he gives a live broadcast to a doctor assisting a suicide.

Eugene once again comes to the aid of incompetent attorney Harland Bassett when his niece is accused of shoplifting. Ellenor announces her pregnancy, and is disappointed by everyone's reaction.
- Jimmy's client supposedly ran down a man with her car, but when it turns out the guy had a bullet in his back, the case becomes a little more complicated. Eugene's client is being sued for sexual harassment, while Lindsay helps out a young lawyer who is suing a town.
- When Shore resolves a difficult case, Hannah finds herself extremely attracted to him; Eugene is offered a shot at a judgeship; and Berluti's practice attracts many clients, and also a threat from another neighborhood lawyer who sees Berluti as poaching turf.
- Jamie has to deal with her past, when she is persuaded by the D.A to testify against the guy who raped her four years ago. Things get more complicated by the fact that Eugene is the defendant's lawyer. Lindsay is revisited by Stanley Deeks, who seems to have turned his life around.

- Berluti's new practice is threatened by a lawyer who considers the neighborhood "his" turf; Hannah and Ellenor face off in a products liability case; Shore admits his feelings for Tara; and Eugene is appointed a judge.
- Eugene and Rebecca represent a woman whose husband died during a routine liposuction, and are shocked to see that the defense attorney's strategy is to attack them personally. The committee recommends life in prison without parole to the client, but the Attorney General still attempts to go for the death penalty. Bobby has dinner with Sarah, and Sarah claims he is starting an affair. Bobby and Lindsay's marriage takes a turn for the worse when Lindsay tells him that she doesn't love him. Lindsay says that she still wants their marriage to work out. Bobby kisses Sarah, and Lindsay sees.
- An American woman married to an Arab-American hires Rebecca to find her husband, who was taken away by the FBI under what seems a precursor to the PATRIOT act. Eugene defends a black man on trial for raping a white woman.
- Jimmy goes to meet a mentally unstable old client of his, and is shocked to find himself being held by her at gunpoint. The event takes an even more bizarre turn when he discovers she has kidnapped CBS CEO Les Moonves, and is planning to play Russian Roulette with him on live television - while asking Jimmy to find a TV network willing to carry the broadcast. Meanwhile, Lindsay confronts Bobby about his affair, and even goes to Sarah for answers.
- Bobby and Eugene defend a Christian Science couple from Helen's wrath, when they are accused of murder for not taking their dying son to a hospital. Meanwhile, Lindsey's release has severe emotional consequences on both her and Keneth Walsh, still devastated over losing the case.
- Friction at the firm gets to Jimmy, who's torn between loyalties and principles. Meanwhile, tension besets Shore as he crosses swords with his brilliant but erratic new boss, whose behavior raises questions of competence.
