Bobby Ewing and Pamela Barnes shock their respective families when they reveal they have married. This revelation renews an age-old feud between the two families, and J.R. Ewing, Bobby's older brother, schemes to break them up using ranch hand Ray Krebbs, who once dated Pamela.

When Cliff gets his hands on a document proving dirty dealings between a state senator and Ewing Oil, he turns it over to the State of Texas for investigation. But, after finding out about a possible mole, JR turns on Pam, putting her marriage to Bobby in serious jeopardy.

When Pam reveals that she is pregnant, the Ewings try in vain to mend fences with Digger Barnes at the family barbecue.

J.R. tries to drive Gary off of Southfork again.

Infuriated by Bobby getting stonewalled by his brother, JR, Jock confronts JR about it and suffers a heart attack during the process. While Bobby fills in at the ranch, JR takes it upon himself to make a deal under the table that involves Section 40 of Southfork and doing something he knows will only upset his father.

Pam's secret comes out when her ex-husband returns to Dallas after having been locked in a Vietnamese prison camp and several years in a hospital. Only her ex-husband, Ed, claims that their marriage was never annulled, and no one can find any documents to prove otherwise, which not only hurts Bobby emotionally, but financially, as his new construction company has trouble getting off the ground with a church looking to build a new school.

When Cliff announces that he's running for State Senate, it puts the Ewing clan on high alert and gets a candidate of their own. Things get ugly when Pam inadvertently tells Jock and Jr about Cliff's past relationship, both in the political ring and between Pam and Cliff, itself.

Jock insists on minding the office while JR goes to Washington, D.C. for more reasons than just business while Sue Ellen finds business of her own in the arms of JR's arch rival, Cliff Barnes. Things get complicated, though, when Sue Ellen finds out about her own predicament. Pam is torn between her job promotion, which means she'll have a buying trip to Paris, or standing by Bobby while he throws a business party.

Bobby's college pal, Guzzler, shows up in Dallas and lights up Bobby's eyes like he did when they were in college. But when they team up in a construction deal, it's Pam who feels like she's on the outside.

Miss Ellie's long-lost brother, Garrison, returns to Southfork, putting Miss Ellie in Heaven but Jock and JR through Hell, as they believe that the elder Southworth has designs on regaining title to the ranch... and that it was a lovely young woman accompanying him that put the idea in Garrison's head.

When Julie Grey returns to Dallas, she gets back in Jock's good graces instead of JR's. When Jock's sons get wind of what's going on, it sets up a wall between Jock, JR and Bobby. But when JR blabs about where Jock's whereabouts to Miss Ellie, it is SHE who takes matters into her own hands when it comes to the affairs of her marriage.

Shock sets in across the Dallas area of Julie Grey's death...all except for JR, whose intent on framing Cliff Barnes for her murder knows no bounds. Matters aren't helped any either when Pam moves out of Southfork, which only puts a wider smile on his face. On the other hand, Bobby, intent on saving his marriage, does his best to get Cliff out of the jam he's in.

JR finds out that a friend of Pam's used to be a friend of his, as well, and has no problem taking advantage of that former friendship in an attempt to put some muscle on the man who put Cliff Barnes in power as head of the OLM. Bobby and Ray cross paths with the son of another independent oil man while attempting to corner some cattle rustlers. Sue Ellen's drinking begins to get the better of her, which only infuriates JR.

Unable to rid Cliff Barnes of his power on their own, the Ewings turn to Sam Culver in an attempt to prove the state government that Cliff is abusing his authority in matters concerning Ewing Oil. Sam, a former senator and governor, has a lot of friends that would listen to him... if the Ewings can only get him to speak on their behalf. Unfortunately, JR's involvement in Sam's marriage to a woman much younger than he only further complicates matters, rather than simplifying them.

Sue Ellen desperately wants to get out of the sanitarium. She refuses to speak to J.R., but confesses to Bobby that Cliff Barnes is most likely the father of her baby. Both Miss Ellie and Jock confront J.R. with the way he's been neglecting his wife. Sue Ellen manages to get her hands on some alcohol even in the sanatorium and escapes in a car, only to get into an accident.

The family gathers itself at Southfork after the baby is kidnapped. Bobby goes after Cliff, thinking he's taken JR's son, while Jock is sent on a wild goose chase. JR, meanwhile, gets a call from some old friends who claim to have something to do with the kidnapping.

Valene returns and tries to win a resistant Lucy's understanding. Pam discovers she is pregnant and struggles with how to tell Bobby about both the baby and her own recently discovered genetic disease.

Jock, Bobby, J.R. and Ray take time off to go on a hunting trip. Once there they encounter a farmer who Jock strong armed 40 years ago and who is seeking revenge. Afraid he might not make it out of the encounter Jock confides a secret to J.R. and asks him to do something that might bring J.R.'s recent shady dealings to light. Back at the ranch Miss Ellie takes advantage of the men's absence to make a worrying doctor's appointment.

The Ewings host a rodeo. J.R. uses the event as an excuse to further his plans to destroy Cliff and openly flirt with Kristin. Digger uses it as an opportunity to see John Ross III, who he believes to be his grandson. Sue Ellen flirts with cowboy Dusty Farlow.

Ellie deals with the aftermath of her mastectomy and her anger at Jock keeping something from her for 40 years. Digger tell Miss Ellie he still loves her. Lucy fears she will inherit breast cancer. Jock and Bobby find out about J.R.'s plan to displace Cliff. Dusty tries to convince Sue Ellen to leave J.R.

A typhoon delays drilling in Asia as J.R.'s loans become due. Cliff resigns from the Office of Land Management to run for Congress. Ellie makes a massive sacrifice to save Southfork and Ewing Oil, but blames J.R.

Gary and Valene return to Dallas with the news they are getting re-married and moving to California. J.R. and Kristin go on a 'business trip' and are interrupted by Kristin's ex-boyfriend, Rudy.

Kristin discovers Lucy's affair with Alan Beam and brings the information to J.R.. J.R. sees a way to turn Alan's romance to his own advantage.

When Pam continues to put a strain on her marriage to Bobby by going on a buyer's trip to Paris with Harrison Page, Bobby seeks comfort in the arms of Jenna Wade, who is back in town.

J.R. pressures Alan to marry Lucy soon. Cliff's campaign runs out of money. Jock offers Alan a wedding gift that spoils J.R.'s plans.

The identity of the skeleton found on Ray Kreb's section of Southfork is revealed as a man last seen arguing with Jock many years ago. The D.A. accuses Jock of murder and puts him on trial.

Ellie receives a legal document from Jock that effects control of Ewing Oil while he is in South America. She gathers the family, including Gary and Val, to explain what it means.

J.R. returns to Southfork where the family is celebrating Christopher's adoption which serves to depress him further as he realizes he may be a long way from having his own son back. Ray cleans up his act and starts to put his life back together.

J.R., through his manipulations, dupes Cliff into spending millions on a phony land deal. Farraday meets with Bobby and wants money and a ticket to Rio while Cliff proposes marriage to Sue Ellen.

Bobby is in a difficult position when he is questioned by the police about the extent of his involvement with Farraday. Lucy is released from her bondage after she is found by Pam and Bobby.

Cliff is devastated by Sue Ellen's return to J.R. and when Afton visits him she makes a shocking discovery. Bobby comes clean and reveals Christopher's true parentage to Pam. Clayton makes a return to Southfork and Lucy admits to a terrible secret.

Meanwhile, JR rubs Cliffs nose in the fact that he's re-marrying Sue Ellen by inviting him to the wedding. Other guests include Clayton Farlow, who tries to help console Miss Ellie over the fight between JR and Bobby. In an effort to fight JR's variance, the state of Texas is willing to create a different oil commission, but only if Donna will serve on the committee.

Holly Harwood entertains thoughts of getting JR out of her company and Bobby into her bed at the same time. The Texas Energy Commission deliberates on JR's variance, as he pulls a move that threatens the entire Texas oil community, which shows up at the Ewing annual barbecue like an old-fashioned Texas showdown.

Miss Ellie and Pam meet with Mark Graison in hopes of his family releasing Brooks Oliver to help break Jock's will. Donna is ready to give up on the Texas Energy Commission and JR, who goes on TV in an effort to boost more support from the common man, only to further the hatred of him among the oil industry. And Bobby has found a loophole to force the Cartel to re-open the Wellington field.

The race for profits between J.R. and Bobby Ewing continues in the aftermath of the court's ruling on Jock's will.

Blame is placed and accepted all over the Barnes-Wentworth, Ewing, and oil community when Rebecca dies as a result of a mid-air collision of the company jet. JR's variance is revoked and he scrambles to find where his next big profit is coming from. Meanwhile, Holly tries, once again, to rid her company of him.

Pam's sister informs her she's moving to Dallas, unaware that Kathryn's also trying to move in on her husband, while Mark keeps trying to move in on Pam. Meanwhile, Bobby tries to find solace in something other than a bottle and Cliff can't get over the self-blame for the death of his mother. Donna begins to realize the serious effects of JR moving in on a senatorial seat in Washington when Dave talks to her about it because he feels threatened by the notion.

When Bobby and Ray pull a sting operation on Driscoll, JR starts dancing for the Cubans as he tries to retrieve his money, leaving Driscoll to rot in jail. Bobby finds out that Pam had lunch with Mark Graison and Lucy grows closer to Mickey Trotter, compelling her to be honest with him about what happened with Roger. Katherine proposes a deal to JR that would benefit the both of them.

Sue Ellen begins to investigate Holly's claim that JR is being unfaithful. JR, meanwhile, flies to Puerto Rico in hopes of retrieving what he can out of the forty millions dollars he lost without having to fly to Cuba. After learning that Pam has flown to France with Mark Graison, Bobby takes Christopher out to Southfork, where Punk Anderson is discussing Clayton's intentions with Miss Ellie. Katherine continues to burn the candle at both end, plotting with JR to help him win Ewing Oil, and get her sister out of Bobby's life so she can replace her, and now agrees to help Bobby secure a special kind of drill bit designed for cold weather drilling.

Sue Ellen, having found JR returned to his old ways, returns to her old ways, as well. Pam flies home to Dallas and drives straight out to Southfork, treating Bobby like she stole their son and accusing him of having something personal to do with her sister, Katherine. Cliff still refuses to let go of the drill bit that Bobby desperately needs. And Mickey and Lucy continue to grow closer together.

Bobby's marriage, Afton's relationship with Cliff and Ray's attempt to find the other driver that ran Sue Ellen and Mickey off the road all come to a close.
