Lame second film version of Norwegian novel classic.
27 October 2000 | by BippoSee all my reviews

This film version of the Norwegian novel classic was the second of three. Sadly, it's a rather lame movie, that comes bad off compared to the beautiful silent film (1919). Apart from a stunning performance from Victor Sjöström, the script, the directing and the acting seem all done in a hurry, as a quick low-budget production. The film was strangely enough presented in two versions, with two different leading ladies. The version with Randi Brænne as Synnøve was restored by The Swedish Film Institute in 1981. The Karin Ekelund version exists only in a nitrate print at The Danish Film Museum.
