Sex & Nudity

  • A man and a woman kiss a few times and talk about a previous intimate date.
  • Several Air Force men talk about wanting to go somewhere where there are attractive women. In the first few minutes of the movie there is a fair amount of misogynistic banter.

Violence & Gore

  • It is told that 2 men got hung upside down and got their throats slit, but it's never shown.
  • The severed arm of the alien is found outside under a dead sled dog. It's taken inside to be examined.
  • Some sled dogs are attacked and killed by the alien. It happens outside during a snowstorm at night so it isn't very visible.

  • Several scenes of smoking, and some drinking.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The severed hand begins to twitch. The editing and music combine to startle the viewer.
  • Some people (specially younger viewers) may find the Thing very creepy.
