When Merton, played by Jack Hawkins leaves the school, he is followed by a police car, registration number JGN 943. Is it just coincidence that, in The League of Gentlemen (1960), Jack Hawkins says "My name's Hyde, J.G.N. Hyde", and later we find out that the full name is John George Norman Hyde.
Colonel Merton (Jack Hawkins) drives a 1935 Lagonda 4.4litre (reg. BXC 113).
The world premiere on 15th October 1953 was screened under the patronage and in the presence of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. All proceeds were donated to the Returned British Prisoners of War Association.
