Famed playwright Tennessee Williams was allegedly on set and directed parts of the film. Credited director James L. Wolcott was supposedly a close friend of Williams, and when Tennessee asked to experience directing, he was allowed to do so for the fun of it.
The Tubes wrote a song, "Wild Women Of Wongo", which is found on their album "Outside Inside". This song is a direct homage to this film.
The "Temple of the Dragon God" in the movie is actually the Coral Castle built by Edward Leedskalnin in Homestead, FL.
The actress who plays Wana (credited as Adrienne Bourbeau) is believed by many film buffs to actually be Adrienne Barbeau-- an extremely unlikely possibility, seeing as how Ms. Barbeau, having been born in 1945, would have been only 12 or 13 at the time this film was made.
