When Bud is outside of Dino's Lodge, he pulls out a comb and combs his hair. This is a reference to the television series 77 Sunset Strip (1958). In that show, Edd Byrnes played Kookie, a valet at Dino's Lodge who was constantly combing his hair.
Arch Hall Jr.'s song "Vickie" was also featured in his film Eegah (1962) but with the name changed to 'Valerie'
There are many props and posters from Eegah (1962) seen throughout the film. Eeagh was also produced by Arch Hall Sr. and starred Arch Hall Jr.. It was released in April 1962, approximately eight months before Wild Guitar.
When Bud is in the diner at the beginning, there is a poster for The Choppers (1961) on the wall, which Arch Hall Jr. also starred in. Another poster in the diner is for Wild Ones on Wheels (1962) (aka "Drivers To Hell") in which "Wild Guitar" director Ray Dennis Steckler had an acting role.
The few photos on the walls of McCauley's office include those of Mitch Miller, Leslie Uggams and several other publicity pictures from Miller's television show Sing Along with Mitch (1961)--an odd array of talent for a man who is supposed to be a rock-'n'-roll promoter, especially since Miller, who was also the longtime A&R man at Columbia Records, made it well-known that he hated rock music and it was many years before he allowed rock singers to record for Columbia. Several of the same photos are also visible on the walls of the diner.
