Sex & Nudity

  • Some kissing
  • Suggestive content and sexual humor in most all episodes of the first five seasons but it gets less frequent after that. Nothing ever gets too vulgar or graphic.

  • Sometimes one get shot
  • Some combat sequences are shown throughout the series. Most are not too violent or graphic but most show the aftermath.

Profanity

  • In the TV blooper outtakes of M*A*S*H, actors often use words like "Goddammit", many uses of "Shit" and a few uses of "Fuck" which is not used in the final cut TV show episodes as TV shows were censored at that time in the 1970s.
  • Infrequent mild language, like "hell","tits" and "damn".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Hawkeye drinks all the time. He even has his own homemade still in his tent.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Many episodes show characters in peril common to war such as firefights, targets of mortar fire and snipers, aerial attacks, standoffs, getting lost, the harsh constrictions they are living in, and more. Despite the shows comedic tone, these scenes can sometimes be very intense and suspenseful.
  • There are many heavy topics discussed, such as trauma and violence. The atmosphere is generally light-hearted, but some episodes and later seasons are far more intense than the rest. The series finale is particularly emotionally intense and disturbing.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In the series finale, it's revealed that the main character, Captain Benjamin Franklin 'Hawkeye' Pierce, suffers from severe PTSD, as he describes his traumatic encounter of him with refugees on a bus to a doctor, where he said to a woman to keep her chicken quiet, and then suffers a severe mental breakdown when he breaks down into tears and describes that it was no chicken, but a crying baby that she smothered to death. This is disturbing, as it shows us the horrors of war.
