Sex & Nudity

  • A mentally unstable man attempts to rape a woman and makes lewd advances towards her.
  • A man is called a "fag" for keeping photos of shirtless male bodybuilders all around his room. He's implied to be a closeted gay.
  • An comical innuendo where women are ordered to "take off your pantyhose!" - the panyhose were actually being used to secure people to a chair in a rescue effort atop a high-rise building.
  • A young woman pulls back her jacket to reveal her t-shirt logo; the outline of nipples are seen beneath the fabric as a policeman oggles her.

Violence & Gore

  • A man chokes on phosphate gas and later dies of a heart attack.
  • A brawl breaks out in a pub; two men pin each other down and throw punches.
  • A policeman recalls verbally how a young Mexican girl was thrown in the air by a vehicle and killed, coating the street in blood. It is said that he punched all the teeth out of the face of the driver.
  • A man driving a truck loaded with cattle falls from an overpass upside-down; the man is killed, and the cattle are presumably crushed to death.
  • Two men panic as they are buried alive in dirt.
  • An elevator door opens, revealing the bloated corpse of a drowned man (only very briefly). Another character is visibly distraught by the sight.
  • Many major characters die graphically.
  • A lot of blood is shown throughout. Multiple characters die violently onscreen. Deaths by falling out of buildings, crushing, impaling, drowning, crashing elevator. Not overly graphic. Three characters shot dead in cold blood.
  • One lady is showered with glass from a highrise building and when she turns to face the camera, there is blood streaming from her face which has glass fragment stuck in her face.

Profanity

  • Foul language, including "god d-mnit (Used 4-5)" (this expletive is the first spoken line of the film, in fact), "j-sus chr-st (approx 7)", "fag". bastard--3-4 times; shit-once as well as multiple uses of damn and hell

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • An alcoholic pimp is frequently featured in background scenes for comedy; after the earthquake, he even dances on a table for a crowd of survivors as he takes swigs from a flask of booze, then passes out cold.
  • There's a pub scene, which features bottles and a drunk policeman.
  • A man and his mistress share white wine.
  • Multiple characters act drunk onscreen. One character smokes cigarette.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Destruction scenes associated with a major earthquake. Building collapse, people hit with debris, falling power lines (child in danger), flooding, falling elevator killing multiple people, three people falling out of a building to their death (one through a glass skylight), violent building collapse killing hundreds.
