It's been six months since anyone has seen Greg. After receiving a letter from him, Charles and Jenny travel to his last known location, finding a military organisation that they regard with suspicion.

Charles travels to an old army camp after receiving an urgent message to meet Greg there. When he arrives, he finds no sign of Greg, but Anna with plans for a new government in Greg's name.
Charles, Hubert and Jenny take the steam train up to Scotland, where they plan to meet with Alec and Sam after electricity has been restored. But none of them have realised that Sam's plan all along was to sabotage it.
