The pictures include Fedora (1978), Inserts (1975), Valentino (1977), Nickelodeon (1976), Silent Movie (1976), The Wild Party (1975), The Last Tycoon (1976), Hearts of the West (1975), The Day of the Locust (1975), The World's Greatest Lover (1977), Gable and Lombard (1976), Goodbye, Norma Jean (1976), Bud and Lou (1978), and W.C. Even though Gable is seen in uniform when Lombard's plane crashes, he didn't actually enlist in Army Air Force until six months after her death. See more »Alternate Versions
The theatrical version ends with Gable being driven away from the plane crash site, tearfully recounting a joke Lombard told him earlier in the film to lift his spirits. In the network television broadcast version, the joke is omitted, and it instead ends with a flashback to Lombard giving Gable a pep talk about standing together and fighting for their relationship. At first, I could not believe James Brolin was playing Clark Gable, but he is dead on with his portrayal!!! He's a great reason to see this film. I don't know why this film is rated so low. It was sweet, entertaining and the ending was heartbreaking. It was also great to see the implications of not being a "moral" and "upstanding" actor in the film industry during its early years. It shows how much times have changed. It was also fascinating to see if Clark Gable really had a softer side in him, since he was probably the greatest leading man in the history of Hollywood and a symbol of American manhood during his time. In my mind, this film is wonderful.
