Sex & Nudity

  • Many scenes in the movie have partial or full nudity. Genital areas are typically obscured with cloth scraps, artful posing, and camera work, though in a few scenes we do get glimpses of genitalia. For instance, in one scene a woman is shown from the back, bent over with her buttocks in full view, and we get a fleeting peek of labia between her legs.
  • The movie is about prehistoric cave people, so most of the characters are wearing only the most primitive sorts of loose clothing which occasionally sways to reveal breasts and buttocks. A few of the characters go completely nude, including the main character, who spends about 2/3 of the movie wearing nothing but a sort of body paint. Many of the female characters go topless.
  • There are a few sex scenes.

Violence & Gore

  • There are several fighting scenes in the movie. People are stabbed with stone blades, clubbed, shot with arrows, and smashed by rocks wielded as weapons. In a particularly grisly scene, an ape-man is impaled through the mouth with a spear.
  • In one scene, we see blood squirting from a wound.
  • A man's genitals are viciously bitten.
  • A man is mauled by a bear.
  • Of the sex scenes mentioned above, one is clearly a rape, and another is a borderline case.
  • All of this serves to advance the plot, rather than portray violence for its own sake.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Many very intense scenes where the 3 main characters end up in peril during their journey. Much of this is amplified by the equally intense music.
