After his father's death, Sunil (Shatrughan Sinha) is raised by his mother and grows up to become a cop. When he nabs Mittal's son(Rajesh Roshan) in connection with a murder, he doesn't realise that Mittal (Sanjeev Kumar) is his own father.

When you get Sanjeev Kumar and Shatrughan Sinha in the same film, you know you're going to get powerhouse performances, dramatic dialogues and you certainly get that in abundance in Haatkadi. After a leisurely-paced first half that resembles other police-action dramas with Shotgun going undercover, the second half is ramped up after Shotgun's girlfriend (Ranjeet Kaur) gets molested and killed by Rakesh Roshan in a harrowing scene. Sanjeev and Shotgun clash, they exchange heated words and threats, unaware that they are father and son and this causes a lot of nail biting tension. This gripping drama ends with an emotional scene which explains why the film is called Haatkadi ( handcuffs).

The performances from the other players are good, especially Rakesh Roshan in a negative role. The famous disco song "Disco Station" features, and it was a big hit. Overall, a solid film.
