Storyline

Jenny Hayden never did get over the death of her husband, so when an alien life form decides to model "himself" on the husband, Jenny is understandably confused if not terrified. Trivia

According to John Carpenter in the audio commentary on Big Trouble in Little China (1986), the main reason he directed Starman (1984) was due to the box-office disaster of The Thing (1982); he needed to make a movie that was tonally the complete opposite of 'The Thing' to ensure his employability in Hollywood. Goofs

In the hangar when Shermin is playing the alleged Voyager golden record, the turntable is spinning counter-clockwise (instead of clockwise) and is rotating at a much higher speed than the 16-2/3 RPM at which the Voyager record was intended to be played. See more »

Sadness, joy, loss, love...brilliance
15 August 2003 | by andrew.harrisonSee all my reviews

The achingly gorgeous Karen Allen and the sublime Jeff Bridges star in this story of love and innocence.

A magical movie, with a poignant, otherworldly score sees John Carpenter direct a movie outside his usual genre. Well, all the planets came into alignment for this one, as it is a heart warming emotionally involving ride from start to finish.

This would be one of my 10 "Desert Island" movies.
