Sex & Nudity

  • A teacher who looks to be in his thirties is supposedly flirting with one of his teenage students. They are seen holding hands in a boat during one scene. He also kisses her on the cheek at one point. It is implied that the teacher is eventually fired for this reason.

Violence & Gore

  • Some very minor arguments/fist fights between characters, but nothing bloody or gory.
  • A young girl breaks a slate over a young man's head, but no injury is sustained.

Profanity

  • There are no swear words at all - there is some general name-calling, but they are old-fashioned terms like "you ninny". The film is 100% safe for children to watch.
  • This probably doesn't really count, but a teenage girl with no religious upbringing is referred to as a "heathan" a few times.
  • Anne uses the word "Hell" once as she's reading a poem to the crowd.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A Drunk man is shown attacking two people in flashbacks. Very breif.
  • In one scene, an underage character accidentally drinks alcohol. (She thinks it is a raspberry soda type of drink.) She is seen drunk, and vomiting in the bushes.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • At the beginning of the movie, Anne is living with an emotionally abusive foster mother, her husband, and their many children. There is a lot of screaming and name-calling from the mother. At one point, she calls Anne "poor miserable trash that don't deserve no better".
  • A young girl dyes her hair green and lays in her bed, crying about how ugly she feels.
  • An approximately 4-year-old girl falls ill during one scene. She has the croupe and struggles to breathe. She is barely saved.
  • Two young girls jump onto a bed late at night, unaware that one of the girls' great-aunt is sleeping in it. The great-aunt gets very angry and calls them names.
