Hollywood Legion Theater Sets 35Mm ‘Summer of Celluloid’ Screening Series (Exclusive)
The Hollywood Legion Theater drive-in has announced an important upgrade for its “Summer of Celluloid” drive-in series, adding 35mm projectors for this year’s screenings.

With the new addition, the Hollywood Legion is now the only drive-in on the west coast to present movies in 35mm.

“Analog 35mm film projection at an outdoor cinema is a rare and special experience,” said Taylor Umphenour, the Hollywood Legion Theater’s creative director and chief projectionist. “In this case, we’ve decided to go even further by giving our audiences the unique experience of being able to see our film projectionists running shows through our transparent glass-walled projection tower.”

The glass-walled tower was custom-built to house the two projectors, which weigh 800 lbs. each. They were forklifted into the 20-foot-long projection tower in April and commissioned as fully operational earlier this month.

The Hollywood Legion Theater’s dedication to analog film is also reflected

HBO Max Adding Over 200 Movies And TV Shows Next Month

HBO Max Adding Over 200 Movies And TV Shows Next Month
The first of the month is typically when the variety of streaming services on offer bolster their respective libraries with a mixture of original and pre-existing content, freshening things up for subscribers in the process. January 1st also happens to be the first day of 2021, though, so people might be expecting a little more than just a handful of new additions, and HBO Max are stepping up to the plate in a big way.

Of course, Wonder Woman 1984 is set to entice millions to sign up for Warner Bros.’ platform, especially when the entire slate of theatrical releases are also heading to the streaming site on the same day that they hit the big screen. And keen to capitalize on the inevitable influx of new customers, HBO Max is adding a massive amount of film and television titles on January 1st, with the onslaught set to continue over the next 30 days.

Pennywise, Joker and Wrinkles: 12 Best Scary Clowns in Movies and TV (Photos)

Pennywise, Joker and Wrinkles: 12 Best Scary Clowns in Movies and TV (Photos)
Thanks to the creepy mask Wal-Mart removed from its stores, coulrophobia — the fear of clowns — is in vogue this Halloween. What was once a symbol of silly circus fun has been turned into one of the most ubiquitous images in horror. So if you’re in the mood for a circus from hell, there’s plenty of evil clowns to choose from. Some are funny. Others are horrifying. Either way, they’re perfect for Halloween.

Pennywise, “It”: We have to start with the most famous evil clown ever. For some, Tim Curry’s portrayal of a killer clown that only kids from Maine can see is the height of creepiness. For others, Curry’s “Rocky Horror” levels of camp make Pennywise more amusing than frightening. In both instances, Tim Curry commands attention.

Capt. Spaulding, “House of 1000 Corpses”: The most memorable character in Rob Zombie‘s critically panned

Hulu New Releases: September 2020

Hulu New Releases: September 2020
As one of the weirder “back to school” seasons in living memory rolls out, Hulu is heading back to school in its own way for September 2020.

The biggest Hulu original arriving to the streaming services stream this month is season 2 of coming-of-age comedy Pen15…which of course stars two adults who have already come of age playing their middle school selves.

Speaking of middle school, perhaps the biggest non-original addition to the Hulu library this month is the arrival of all The Twilight Saga movies on September 1. That should prove to be a real nostalgia trip for interested parties. Other library titles of note include Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Terminator, and 2019’s Judy on September 25.

Bookending Hulu’s originals this month is another intriguing comedy, Woke. This series will star Lamorne Morris as a Black cartoonist who gets an unexpected wakeup call.

Beetlejuice Coming To 4K Ultra HD With A Deluxe Giftset
Streaming might be consistently gaining in popularity, but it’ll be a while yet before physical media is in any danger of dying off, with a new special edition of Beetlejuice being released, this one in a 4K Ultra HD gift box set.

Released in 1988, Beetlejuice was Tim Burton’s second movie after the farcical comedy Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, and follows a couple (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) who are killed in a car crash and discover their house has been subsequently sold to pretentious yuppies with a goth teenage daughter (Winona Ryder). To rid the humans from their home, they hire the titular bio-exorcist (a truly repulsive Michael Keaton) who specializes in scaring away mortals, only afterwards to discover his desire to wreak havoc across the world of the living.

Contained within a box emblazoned with the movie’s “Handbook for the Recently Deceased” packaging, the disc set contains

Practical-ly Perfect: Celebrating the Oscar-Winning Makeup Effects of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice

Practical-ly Perfect: Celebrating the Oscar-Winning Makeup Effects of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice
It was on March 30, 1988 when Tim Burton unleashed one of his most wacky, vibrant and endearing original films on audiences everywhere, the madcap supernatural comedy Beetlejuice which firmly established Burton as one of the most forward-thinking visual storytellers of his, or any generation. While the film might have initially been birthed inside co-writer Michael McDowell’s imagination, Burton relied on an array of talents and artisans to help him bring his vision to life throughout production.

On the effects side of things, there were a handful of extremely talented artists assembled to work on Beetlejuice who were tasked with creating not only the titular character, but all kinds of off-the-wall creatures and entities that made the film a standout amongst its peers that year at the Academy Awards ceremony.

Robert Short, an artist who has worked in Hollywood for more than 40 years now, recalled his initial impressions of Beetlejuice and

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Edward Scissorhands

After directing Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, and a small independent film about a guy who dresses up like a bat and spends his evenings beating criminals to a pulp; it was time for Tim Burton to look inward for his next picture. He tasked Caroline Thompson with writing the screenplay for a character and a world he knew all to well - Edward Scissorhands. Loosely based on what and how the director felt like growing up in Burbank, California.

In what was the first of many collaborations between director, Tim Burton, and actor, Johnny Depp, the movie took a look through Edward’s eyes at what living in suburbia was like for anyone who ever felt they might not belong. The result was a modern gothic fairytale that has resonated with audiences ever since. Here are 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Edward Scissorhands.
