Plot: Steve Martin is one of the most beloved and enigmatic figures in entertainment. “Steve! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces” dives into his extraordinary story from two distinct points of view, with companion documentaries that feature never-before-seen footage and raw insights into Steve’s personal and professional trials and triumphs. “Then” chronicles Steve Martin’s early struggles and meteoric rise to revolutionize standup before walking away at 35. “Now” focuses on the present day, with Steve Martin in the golden years of his career, retracing the transformation that led to happiness in his art and personal life.
Review: It pains me to think that a generation is growing up that does not hold Steve Martin in the same regard as generations past. At 78 years old, Martin was the biggest comedian of all time for some, a movie star for others, and one of the old guys from Only Murders in the Building for the rest.

Bill Murray's small role in Little Shop of Horrors caused a stir between director Frank Oz and producer David Geffen. Oz's objection wasn't to Murray's casting but to Geffen signing the actor on without consulting him, which the Little Shop of Horrors director and producer had agreed on. Rick Moranis stars as Seymour Krelborn in this musical horror film, with appearances from Steve Martin and Bill Murray.
Bill Murray has a small role in Little Shop of Horrors, but his casting caused a bit of a stir on set. The dark musical movie is filled with a cast of the era's major comedy stars. From Rick Moranis as the flower shop worker protagonist Seymour Krelborn to John Candy as a DJ, the movie is stuffed with comedic talent. There is a good chance Ace Ventura: Pet Detective will come up in conversation if you ask someone who is strolling their dog on the street about their favorite Jim Carrey flick. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective earned mixed reviews upon its initial release, so it is almost funny to see how beloved it has become among fans despite this fact. Nevertheless, the film remains a hilarious detective satire.
Reviewers and viewers alike had a major effect because of Carrey’s performance. Not only did it initiate the actor’s cinematic career, but it also initiated a franchise. Having said that, what if we told you that Carrey was not the first choice to play such an iconic character?
Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
The original contender for the role is also a legendary figure in the comedy film industry, but his comedic sensibility is nothing like Carrey’s outrageous and wild improvisation.

Little Shop of Horrors reboot should keep practical effects for Audrey II. Director Joe Dante's experience in practical effects is great news for the remake. Practical effects enhance interactions with Audrey II and fit the movie's style.
Little Shop of Horrors is, once more, in the process of getting a remake, and for it to succeed, it needs to keep one key element from the 1986 version. After dabbling in TV for much of the last decade, Gremlins and The Howling director Joe Dante is set to return to feature filmmaking with his first project since 2014’s Burying the Ex. Dante, who kicked off his career in the late 1970s with the Roger Corman-backed Hollywood Boulevard and Piranha, will now reunite with the legendary filmmaker for a reboot of Little Shop of Horrors.
Initially directed by Corman in 1960 as a micro-budget feature (starring a young Jack Nicholson!), the story was then re-popularized in the 1980s with Frank Oz’s take, itself based on Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman’s Off-Broadway play. This new version is titled Little Shop of Halloween Horrors, Deadline reports. Corman will produce Dante’s reboot, which is described as a hopeful franchise-starter (continuer?), but there are no other specific details outside of the obvious Halloween theme of the title.

A remake of Little Shop Of Horrors is in the works with director Joe Dante and original creator Roger Corman.
The last update we had on a remake of Little Shop Of Horrors was back in 2020, when it was reported that Taron Egerton, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans were set to star, with Greg Berlanti directing from a script by Matthew Robinson.
It now appears those plans have been abandoned in favour of a different creative team. Described as a “reimagining intended to jumpstart a new franchise”, Little Shop Of Halloween Horrors will be directed by Joe Dante, according to Deadline.
Charles S Haas, who previously collaborated with Dante on Gremlins 2: The New Batch, will write the screenplay. Roger Corman will co-produce with Brad Krevoy.

“Harry Potter” franchise professor Miriam Margolyes told News Corp Australia’s News.com.au that she was approached by Marvel to star in a project described to her as “a story about witches. But she ultimately turned it down due to its location, along with the fact that playing the Potter films’ Pomona Sprout had her reluctant to play in the magic world again. Given the timing and Marvel’s projects in development, it appears to be “WandaVision” spinoff miniseries “Agatha.”
The actress explained in the interview, published last year, that the show’s location was a problem for her. “I don’t like America and I didn’t want to be in Georgia for four months,” she said. “So I just said, ‘well, I want a million pounds’ and they said, ‘you can have half a million,’ and I said, ‘no, I don’t want to do it,’ so it just stopped.

Get in, loser, we're bringing back the horror/comedy. Recent attempts to find our next great, mainstream-friendly horror franchise have mostly involved such uninspired efforts as Disney's "Haunted Mansion" remake and, most recently, the news that Hollywood is giving "The Blob" another shot. This time, however, no lesser talents than horror legends Joe Dante and Roger Corman are teaming up to reboot the classic 1960 film "The Little Shop of Horrors." Even the most ardently anti-remake fan out there would have to admit that this feels like a win-win.
The exciting news comes courtesy of Deadline, which reports that this "reimagining" is meant to kickstart a whole new franchise, a phrase that would surely cause a shiver to run down the spine of anyone who witnessed something like Universal's "Dark Universe" gambit flame out in spectacular fashion ... if it weren't for the filmmakers involved on this project, that is. Marlon Brando's disrespectful behavior almost ruined the final movie he starred in, The Score. Frank Oz clashed with Brando over his over-the-top characterization, leading to on-set tension. Despite Brando's diva-like behavior, The Score was well-received critically and commercially.
The Score, the final movie to star Hollywood legend Marlon Brando was almost a total disaster thanks to the star's disrespectful behavior toward director Frank Oz. Considered to be the greatest screen actor of all time, it's fair to say that Brando sometimes let that reputation go to his head in later years. From On the Waterfront to Apocalypse Now, many of Marlon Brando's greatest movies are among some of the finest entries in the Hollywood canon. However, for all the impressive credits in Marlon Brando's resume, he appeared in some notoriously bad movies toward the end of his career.

Test screenings provide valuable feedback that can lead to significant changes in movies, such as altering the ending. Test screenings saved iconic films like "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Rambo" from disastrous original endings. Audiences play a crucial role in shaping the final product, as seen in changes made to movies like "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" and "The Lovely Bones."
Test screenings are an important part of creating movies in Hollywood that will be generally favorable to the audience, and sometimes, they are responsible for movies getting a better ending than before. Despite there being so many people involved in the process of making a movie, sometimes, the creatives are too close to the project and can become blind to weaknesses and flaws that the public picks up on intuitively. As a result, test screenings are a common practice in the film industry to see how a movie performs...

Reboots like Little Shop of Horrors and The Mummy succeed by infusing fresh elements like musical numbers or a playful adventure tone while honoring the originals. Shows like DuckTales and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power elevate the source material with deeper storytelling, complex characters, and meaningful growth arcs. Fargo and Battlestar Galactica take established concepts and expand upon them, creating original ensemble crime stories and impactful political allegories, respectively.

The hit HBO show, Westworld, which was based on the Michael Crichton 1973 film of the same name, was a shocking and unfortunate cancellation made by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. While Zaslav has notoriously jettisoned projects in the past, Westworld was a television series that was not only up and running in its fourth season but was also a big hit for the premium cable network. The series that Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy had created was building to a fifth and final season. In the wake of the cancellation back in 2022, Nolan stated that they had been fighting to conclude the series when he told THR, “We always planned for a fifth and final season. We are still in conversations with the network. We very much hope to make them.”

Evan Rachel Wood Still Doesn’t Know ‘Westworld’ Ending After Cancellation: “It Keeps Me Up at Night”
Evan Rachel Wood knows about as much as fans when it comes to what Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan had up their sleeves for the final season of their hit HBO series — which is to say, she knows nothing at all.
Wood, who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of her New York stage debut as Audrey in the off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors, revealed during the sit-down that she had asked the Westworld creators about where the show was headed following the season four finale, “Que Sera Sera.” In it, humanity — and most sentient life — essentially ends after a season that saw the park androids seizing control, flipping the power scales to control humans the way hosts once were.

It’s early afternoon on a Friday when Darren Criss and Evan Rachel Wood pick up the phone, just five days before they are set to debut as the new Seymour and Audrey in off-Broadway’s Little Shop of Horrors.
Both are on their way to the Westside Theatre stage for their first top-to-bottom run-through, taking over the complicated but beloved characters based on Roger Corman’s 1960 horror comedy and deftly adapted for the stage by theater legends Howard Ashman (book and lyrics) and Alan Menken (music).
Now in the fifth year of the U.S. revival of the dark goings-on of a Skid Row flower shop, several notable names have left their mark on the show: Jonathan Groff, Jeremy Jordan, Conrad Ricamora, Corbin Bleu, Constance Wu, Maude Apatow, Tammy Blanchard and Lena Hall. But none quite like this, as an intentional leap together among friends.

Remakes can be distinct films that offer innovative interpretations while still paying homage to the original, as seen in films like Coda and 12 Monkeys. A successful remake can breathe new life into familiar stories and make them more relevant or appealing to contemporary audiences, like The Magnificent Seven (2016) and War of the Worlds (2005). Some remakes stand out for their significant changes from the original, such as Little Shop of Horrors (1986) and The Thing (1982), which introduced new elements and endings that made them unique and memorable.
Hollywood is no stranger to remaking films, and sometimes these remakes are so unique they become entirely new movies that are nothing like the original. Thanks to advancing graphic effects, CGI, and changing societal and cultural views, there's a growing trend to give classic films a fresh spin or explore new storytelling methods. This trend shows that remakes don't have to live in the shadow of their predecessors.

Rick Moranis retired from live-action movies in 1997 and chose to focus on voice acting instead, so he could spend more time with his family. Moranis was set to return to acting in the Honey I Shrunk The Kids reboot, showing that his retirement may be over and he is open to important projects. The Honey I Shrunk The Kids reboot was canceled due to Covid restrictions and budget cuts, but there is still a chance for the movie to be revived if there is enough fan interest.

Musical remakes can succeed if they capture the essence of the original movie and enhance a different aspect of the material. Some films, like "Nine" and "Silk Stockings," struggle to justify being musicals and lack the personal touches of their source material. "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Hairspray" showcase the perfect tone for a musical, embracing their extravagant and fun nature.
Over the years, some movies have been remade as musicals, but they haven't always been improved upon in the process. With The Color Purple and Mean Girls shaping up to be two of the biggest movies in January, musical remakes are bigger than ever. It seems possible that there will be more on the horizon if there proves to be an appetite for musical remakes, but there are already plenty of examples to look back on. These movies can show the best way to adapt older films, although sometimes...

Since the end of Hollywood's Golden Era, musicals have not been able to sustain the popularity they experienced from the 1930s until the mid-1960s. Of course, there have been mainstream musicals that struck a chord with audiences over the years such as Cabaret, Moulin Rouge!, and La La Land, but the truth is, cinema is a long way away from the days when dozens of musicals premiered every year.
Every so often, a musical comes along that connects with a niche audience, eventually building up its reputation over time, earning the rank of a cult classic. Films such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show, This Is Spinal Tap, and Hairspray are among cinema's most beloved cult classic musicals.

Anthony Ing's Jill, Uncredited screens exclusively on Mubi from November 29, 2023, in the series Brief Encounters.Jill, Uncredited. My interest in doing a project about extras came from doing archival research where I would have to watch and rewatch scenes from old films. I found myself wondering about those peripheral figures who live their lives in the margins of the narrative. You might see someone reading a book on a train platform, a nurse wheeling a trolley out of frame, or a soldier looking forlorn—then, just like that, they’re gone and you never see them again. We all have background characters in our own lives, and we’ve all been background characters in other people’s lives. Some may feel it more than others; they might feel backgrounded by louder, more confident people in the room. But others might take comfort in it—after all, it doesn’t...

Contrary to what many believe, picking a movie for Halloween night is no easy task. For the perfect film choice, one has to take into consideration that the most frightening day of the year is as much about the spooks as it is about the fun. Thus, to ensure that your own personal Halloween theater will be perfect, you must go with a flick that packs equal amounts of scares and laughs. While there are some good candidates for the role — the Scream and Child’s Play franchises both have amazing entries — the safest bet is to go with a double feature. The problem, then, is how to choose a good combination, one that is both creative and fitting. If you’re struggling to find a double bill for your Halloween night this year, fear not, we’ve got you covered. Whether you're planning a movie session with friends or creepy night alone,...

With Halloween now just days away, America’s thoughts turn increasingly to witches, demons, the paranormal and scaring the heck out of ourselves. And of course, few things accomplish this goal better than horror movies, a genre the United States has largely claimed as its own. To get everyone in the spirit, the website bank-locations.net launched a state-by-state study of Google to discern (based on searches) which Halloween-themed flicks were most popular in each state of the union.
To generate its conclusions, the research team analyzed 200+ top-rated horror films from IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, then studied specific searches for each movie. For example, for “The Shining,” they gathered keywords like “watch the shining,” “the shining full movie,” “”the shining streaming, “The shining netflix” and “where to watch the shining.”

In my review, I called it “a high-camp blend of the wistful glow of Wnuf Halloween Special, the uninhibited hyperactivity of Rick and Morty‘s “Interdimensional Cable” episodes, and the absurd unpredictability of Adult Swim’s Too Many Cooks.”
What I didn’t mention was all nods to genre favorites peppered throughout the film.
Here are 17 horror references in HeBGB TV.
1. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers
HeBGB TV’s opening credits are inspired by the Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers title sequence, which perfectly captures the autumnal atmosphere.
2. Creature from the Black Lagoon
The boy in the opening scene is playing with a Creature from the Black Lagoon figure.

Low-budget films can achieve cinematic greatness and have a lasting impact, as demonstrated by cult classics like Little Shop of Horrors and The Blair Witch Project. Independent filmmakers can create successful films without exorbitant budgets, as seen with El Mariachi and She's Gotta Have It. Low-budget movies promote artistic innovation and creative storytelling, challenging filmmakers to think outside the box and deliver compelling narratives on limited resources.
While budgets have notably skyrocketed in recent years for many major franchise films, comedies, and dramas alike, some of the most iconic and beloved movies of the past several decades cost less than $500,000 to make. In the age of multi-million-dollar blockbusters, it can be easy to overlook the creative gems that emerge from low-budget, independent filmmaking. Often driven by ingenuity and resourcefulness, low-budget films can still captivate audiences with unique storytelling and innovative approaches. Actors Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest’s romance spans over four decades, beginning with Curtis revealing that it was love at first sight.
“I met my husband by seeing his picture in a magazine and saying out loud to a friend of mine, ‘I’m going to marry that dude,’ and married him … months later,” Curtis shared on Today in 2021. “So the truth of the matter is life hinged for me on a couple seconds that I didn’t see coming.”
Curtis ended up meeting Guest through a chance meeting in 1984. Initially, a friend gave Curtis Guest’s agent’s phone number. She called him but he never returned her call. But it was Kismet when she bumped into him at a restaurant.
When Jamie Lee Curtis met Christopher Guest …
Curtis recalled that initial meeting with Guest. “He was sitting about 10 feet away and he looked at me and kind of nodded.
