- Kay Butler: [shocked at Laurie's admission] It was you? Star... Wanda?
- Laurie Collins: Yeah... and you're the ONLY one left!
- Kay Butler: [visibly frightened, gasps] No... it was an accident... we just roughed her up a little bit.
- Laurie Collins: An accident? An ACCIDENT?
- [she grabs Kay's arm and forces her to the floor, disarming her and puts her foot at her throat]
- Laurie Collins: I should have killed you!
- Miss Dice: [to Laurie after she has killed Kay with her shotgun] Did it bring Bonnie back? You have the rest of your life to think about that.
- Miss Dice: [Kay and Miss Dice have discovered Star dead after hitting her head in the shower] Do you want to tell me what's going on here?
- Kay Butler: [anguished] How do I know?
- Miss Dice: [contemptuously] I know you know what's going on.
- [beat]
- Miss Dice: This makes number three.
- Kay Butler: [screams] Shut... UP!
- Laurie Collins: [Laurie is visiting Bonnie in prison] We're doing everything we can to get you out of here.
- Bonnie Cusack: [crying] I didn't mean to kill him!
- Laurie Collins: I know, baby... I know.
- Bonnie Cusack: Don't let them keep me in here, Laurie!
- Laurie Collins: [as guard leads Bonnie away] I love you, Bonnie.
- Bonnie Cusack: I love you too.
- Judge Waters: [at Laurie's sentencing hearing] Laurie Collins... I hereby fine you eight thousand dollars for damages. And I sentence you to twelve months, state correctional authority. However, it is the opinion of this court that these acts were not done in malice, but rather from a deep emotional stress. Sentence suspended.
- Laurie Collins: [in disbelief] You son of a bitch.
- Judge Waters: [equally in disbelief] What did you say?
- Laurie Collins: You call yourself a judge? This trial has nothing to do with justice.
- [moving towards bench]
- Laurie Collins: You fine me $8,000 and tell me to go home? Well, no problem!
- [grabs Judge by his necktie, pandemonium erupts]
- Laurie Collins: What about the crimes against human life? Who pays for that?
- Judge Waters: Bailiff!
- [the bailiffs pull Laurie away]
- Judge Waters: I hereby revoke that suspension! Your sentence will begin immediately!
- Warden Haines: [after China is found dead in the swimming pool] Our investors are gonna scream bloody murder when they hear about this! You are responsible for security!
- Miss Dice: Sir, a woman has been murdered. And you're worried about investors?
- Warden Haines: Ms. Dice, need I remind you that this institution is a business! And we are paid a fixed fee for every healthy prisoner.
- Miss Dice: And there's been seven deaths since January. Things are not going to get better until your head trustee and her band of hooligans are diffused.
- Warden Haines: The cons run this prison. If we pull Butler out, there'll be total chaos... and everybody'll be vying for top spot.
- [beat]
- Warden Haines: Get this place cleaned up and let's get on with the day.
- Judge Waters: Bonnie Cusack... regardless of the justification, you cannot take the law into your own hands. The jury has found you guilty of second-degree manslaughter. You are hereby sentenced to a term of two years.
- [spectators react in disbelief, judge pounds his gavel]
- Judge Waters: Order... I'll have order in the courtroom. And... remanded to the custody of the state correctional authority.
- Warden Haines: [in the Warden's office after the confrontation between Bonnie and Kay in the shower] Is that the girl out there?
- [Dice turns to see Bonnie entering]
- Miss Dice: Yes.
- Warden Haines: Doesn't look like a troublemaker to me.
- Miss Dice: [walks to a desk outside Haines' office and sits down, beckoning Bonnie to a chair] Just sit right there, please.
- [beat]
- Miss Dice: Cusack, this is a prison, not an ice hockey rink. You can't just start punching anybody who happens by.
- Bonnie Cusack: I didn't do anything.
- Miss Dice: Then why was there an incident?
- Bonnie Cusack: I don't understand what's happening to me! I just want everybody to leave me alone.
- Miss Dice: [sighs] I'm sure this all seems very strange to you, but you're just going to have to blend in and make the very best of this situation. I've assigned you to prison laundry.
- [gently]
- Miss Dice: And try to stay out of trouble, OK?
- [Bonnie nods]
- Miss Dice: You can go now.
- Laurie Collins: [Judge Waters and his wife step out of their Lincoln Mark IV and into a restaurant, where they're seated on the patio. A valet parks the car. Laurie, who has been watching them from another table, leaves and approaches a different valet, pretending to dig in her purse] I seem to have misplaced my ticket.
- [points towards the Judge's car with a $20 bill]
- Laurie Collins: The white Lincoln.
- Parking Attendant: [smiling happily] Of course, ma'am.
- Judge Waters: [looks up and sees his car being brought up, to his wife] Hey, look... is THAT the CAR?
- [Laurie gets in, he moves towards the front]
- Judge Waters: Now wait just a...
- Parking Attendant: [takes the $20] Well, thank you ma'am... drive carefully.
- Laurie Collins: Sure!
- [she takes off]
- Parking Attendant: [to the other valet] Hey! Who was that?
- Parking Attendant: I dunno... some lady with a $20 bill.
- Parking Attendant: GODDAMMIT, shithead! That was Judge Waters' car!
- Judge Waters: [mouth agape, watching Laurie drive off in his Lincoln] GODDAMN!
- Laurie Collins: [Laurie has just totaled Judge Waters' Lincoln... she emerges drunk and laughing after a police officer orders her out at gunpoint] Well, it's about time! You guys are awful slow!
- [another officer assists in leading Laurie to police car]
- Laurie Collins: How'd you like that? I do that for a living!
- Miss Dice: [rushes into the gym with the guards after the fight breaks out between Laurie and Bobo] OK, break it up! Goddamnit, Butler, that's it!
- Kay Butler: Collins went wild! She almost killed Bobo!
- Miss Dice: I don't want to hear it! I don't want to hear it! Butler, your privileges as trustee are TERMINATED!
- Kay Butler: What the fuck are you talking about?
- [she grabs Dice's baton, Dice strikes her and Bobo in the abdomen with it, they double over in pain]
- Miss Dice: [to guard, smiling at Kay's trustee privileges being revoked] Put Collins in isolation... and take Butler back to J block.
- Kay Butler: [after escaping lockdown following the riot, Kay, armed with a shank, runs into Laurie] What are you doing here?
- Laurie Collins: I want the truth.
- Kay Butler: What're you talking about?
- Laurie Collins: My sister.
- Steve Nelson: [looking at the unconscious inmates after being gassed during the riot] Would you look at all these sleeping beauties?
- Miss Dice: You're such a sleaze.
- Warden Haines: [reading Laurie's file] Well, Ms. Collins... felony drunk driving, grand larceny, grand theft auto. Well, since you like cars so much, let's start you off in the motor pool.
- Laurie Collins: Okay.
- Warden Haines: If you keep your nose clean, it'll turn out to be a pretty good job. Okay, that's all.
- Warden Haines: [addressing a small group of low-risk inmates, including Laurie] This is a prison for profit... and you will be expected to carry your own weight and be a productive part of our society or you will be penalized in time and in privileges. Now you'll work at a regular job and be paid $6.50 per hour. From that will be deducted room and board, laundry, and monthly payments on your fines. Whatever you have left is yours to spend or save as you like.
- [he leaves and returns to his adjacent office]
- Miss Dice: You will be issued a dark blue uniform after two weeks. Trustees wear light blue. If you prove to be a discipline problem, you will be issued an orange jumpsuit. Warden Haines will give you your assignments.
- China: [Kay and her thugs have cornered Amy in the laundry room] It's Wednesday, Amy. You got anything for us?
- Amy: [nervous] I'll have it for you tomorrow.
- [Laurie watches from a distance]
- Amy: Some of my customers are behind.
- Kay Butler: I'll give you two more bundles on cred.
- Amy: I told you no! I'm trying to quit that shit!
- [Kay starts laughing]
- Amy: Look, once I quit for my customers, I'm through! Thanks, but I'll pass this time!
- Kay Butler: [pulls out a bundle of heroin] Erasure brown, Amy! Your favorite!
- Amy: Please, no!
- Kay Butler: [tosses her the bundle] It's yours. Make some sales with the sisters.
- Amy: [throws bundle down] Hey, I don't want it!
- Kay Butler: [Kay picks bundle up from floor and sees Laurie watching] What're YOU lookin' at?
- [turns back to Amy]
- Kay Butler: Once you go brown, there's no turning around. You're gonna come crawlin' back!
- [they leave]
- Steve Nelson: [Laurie is on her way to the showers] Hey! How ya doin', sweetheart?
- Laurie Collins: Well, what do YOU think? At least they let you out of here at night.
- Steve Nelson: I think I got a solution to your problem.
- Laurie Collins: I'm not interested.
- Steve Nelson: Well, I was just trying to make your stay more enjoyable.
- [hears commotion down the hall]
- Steve Nelson: Uh oh, trouble at the office.
- [leaves]
- Wanda: [Laurie confronts Wanda at the wind farm as Wanda is shooting heroin into her arm] What are you doing here?
- Laurie Collins: You killed Bonnie Cusack.
- Wanda: [getting up] Oh, come on.
- Laurie Collins: "Oh come on?" You killed her! And I want to know who helped you!
- [Wanda pulls a knife on her, they fight, Laurie overpowers her]
- Laurie Collins: Drop it... drop the knife, now!
- [Wanda drops the knife, Laurie's elbow is at her throat]
- Laurie Collins: Names... NAMES. WHO? NOW! NAMES!
- Wanda: [weakly] Kay.
- Laurie Collins: KAY! Who else?
- Wanda: Bobo... China, and ME.
- Laurie Collins: [Laurie releases Wanda, who starts towards the ladder clutching her arm] Wanda!
- [Wanda turns around, just in time for Laurie to kick her in the face, sending her from the ladder to the ground below]
- Laurie Collins: [China is alone at the pool... Laurie sneaks up on her] CHINA!
- China: What the hell are YOU doing here?
- Laurie Collins: [menacingly] YOU'RE NEXT.
- Kay Butler: [upon hearing of Wanda's death at the wind farm] Industrial accident my ass! Somebody killed her!
- China: Who do you think did it?
- Kay Butler: [shouting] How the fuck do I know? It coulda been one of the hacks, it coulda been one of the niggers, it coulda been anybody!
