How did the idea for ‘The Ultimate Guide to Strange Cinema’ come about originally?
Well like I explain in my foreword I gained a lot of inspiration from fanzines which was where you had to get film education pre-Internet age. Also, this book is sort of a love letter to my VHS renting days at my local mom and pop store. Writing this book brought me right back to being young and sitting in my room devouring every fan zine I could and the excitement of learning about films like The Beyond and going to the rental shop and checking out crazy stuff like Psychos in Love. I wasn’t sure if other fans would also get a nostalgic thrill out of a reference guide, but a number of people have really respond to it, which they consider a lost art.
What can people expect from the book?

As we inch our way closer to the holiest of months, October, this final Tuesday of September boasts an eclectic array of genre-related home entertainment releases, including several great movies I fell in love with earlier this year: The Devil’s Candy, It Stains the Sands Red, and 47 Meters Down. For you cult cinema fans out there, it’s going to be a busy week for your wallet, as we have an array of horror and sci-fi titles heading home, including the SteelBook edition of Bride of Re-Animator, the director’s cut of Cannibal Ferox, Lucio Fulci’s The Devil’s Honey, as well as Orgy of the Dead and Psychos in Love from Vinegar Syndrome.
Other notable releases for Tuesday, September 26th include After Midnight, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (in 4K), A Quiet Place in the Country, The Stake Land Collection, John Carpenter’s Escape from L.A. on Blu-ray,...

Psycho launched a thousand twisted sickos and pathological relationships in films, but none can best Noel Black’s fascinating, funny romance between a newly-released arsonist and a fetching high schooler, hungry for freedom and lacking a moral compass. The pairing of Anthony Perkins and Tuesday Weld is inspired.

February is upon us which means an endless barrage of Valentine's Day reminders. But not everyone is a fan of Hallmark holidays. This February 14th, you can snuggle up with someone special and watch The Notebook, or you can check out these twisted and not-so-feel-good tales of love and physical affection.
The "Crazy in Love" Category
Haute Tension (2003)
Despite its one gaping flaw (those who have seen it know exactly what I mean), this popular French horror is the bleakest, bloodiest tale of unrequited love since the works of Shakespeare. It follows a young woman as she desperately tries to rescue her friend who has been kidnapped by a serial killer. When I think of lovelorn psychos, the final shot of this film definitely comes to mind.
The Loved Ones (2009)
When a lonely Australian girl is turned down for prom by her crush, Brent, she takes matters into her own hands.

It's not easy to maintain a firm sense of humor in a movie about two people who fall in love while corpses keep piling up, but I'm not at all surprised to learn that the British madman known as Ben Wheatley (Down Terrace, Kill List) has found a way to pull it off. The man's latest effort will be a big hit with genre geeks who remember cult films like Eating Raoul (1982) and Psychos in Love (1987), but Sightseers is still clever enough to appeal to general movie-watchers.
And by "general movie-watchers" I mean people who don't normally see romantic comedies in which a half-dozen people get murdered in casual yet amusingly gory fashion.
Simple synopsis for an enjoyably simple movie: Chris (Steve Oram) and Tina (Alice Lowe) have been dating for three months, and (much to the chagrin of her hilariously unpleasant mother) they've decided to get away for a long weekend in his caravan.

Today's feature is not your typical slasher flick... in fact, it's not typical of anything, except maybe the decade in which it was made (it was completed in 1983), and it proudly defies any simple or logical explanation for what it is, or even why it exists. The first feature film from director Gorman Bechard (best known to horror fans for the crazed slasher satire Psychos in Love), Disconnected is better described for what it isn't than what it is: while it does depict a series of bloody murders, it isn't really a by-the-numbers slasher; while it has oddball pretensions of artiness, it's not an experimental/art-house film; and it's hardly ever been seen by the public, outside of a very limited VHS run. I was exposed to Disconnected just last weekend, via a very rare 16mm print at a “Secret Sixteen” screening at the Jumpcut Cafe in Los Angeles... and...

It's time for more various oddball trailers from the far reaches of cinema obscurity. So, without any further ado, let's check out some "coming attractions"!
Dr. Alien (1989):
Ah, Empire Pictures. What's not to love about the infamous production company that gave us such 80's cult favorites as Ghoulies, Trancers, Re-Animator, TerrorVision and Psychos in Love? Well, here's one from Empire that I bet you probably missed; Dr. Alien. This goofy sci-fi teen comedy stars Billy Jacoby (Just One of the Guys, Parker Lewis Can't Lose) as Wesley, a nerdy student who becomes a sexual dynamo after being injected with a serum by his new smokin' hot teacher, Ms. Xenobia played by Judy Landers (Stewardess School, Armed and Dangerous), who just happens to be an alien. Sound ridiculous enough for ya yet? This nugget of pure late-80's video fun was directed by David DeCoteau, who got his start directing...

Junk Food Dinner is ready to party- with you! This week Mr. Matt D. from Forbidden Planet joins us for the show. So settle in as we kick things off with Gorman Bechard and Carmine Capobianco's hilariously-gory-romantic-splatterfest Psychos in Love from 1987. Up next we sink our claws into (and nearly expose ourselves to the potential risk of seziures) 2004's Cutie Honey. Finally, some people you may have heard of from other movies take part in the source of a lifelong nightmare of Parker's when we take a look at Invaders from Mars from 1986.

1987’s Psychos In Love is a cheesefest so bloody and so funny that no horror fan should miss it. The American DVD debut of this 1987 feature (from Media Blasters on its Shriek Show label) is a must-buy for the movie alone, but the abundance of extras certainly provides the extra motivation one might need to fork over the bucks.
On one of the disc’s two commentary tracks, writer/director/producer/editor Gorman Bechard makes it a point to state that Gorman is in fact his real first name. One critic of Psychos In Love, he explains, was so disgusted by the film that he accused Bechard of changing his name to hide his embarrassment. Bechard, however, is not afraid to offend anyone’s sensibilities. As a result, he spins the unapologetic story of Joe (Carmine Capobianco, who also co-scripted), a grape-hating serial killer who just can’t find the right girl.
