In a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit, evil corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-eradicating cyborgs, the company leads street cop Alex Murphy into an armed confrontation with crime lord Boddicker so they can use his body to support their untested RoboCop prototype. But when RoboCop learns of the company's nefarious plans, he turns on his masters.Written by

The original gun for RoboCop was a Desert Eagle, but this was deemed too small. A Beretta 93R was heavily modified by Ray Williams of Freshour Machine, Texas City, Texas, who extended the gun barrel to make it look bigger and more proportional to RoboCop's hand. The gun holster itself was a standalone piece that was not integrated into the suit. Off-screen technicians would operate the device on cue by pulling cables that would force the holster to open up and allow the gun to be placed inside. See more »

No substance in reality reacts with a human body, or organic matter period, in that gratuitously violent fashion. There's Hydrofluoric acid, which is nasty, but the damage and pain it causes is not evident until the day after, and you'd die long before of organ failure anyway. See more »

This is one of the best science fiction films ever made. Unfortunately, neither the sequels nor a T.V series could top this entertaining mix of action, humor and emotion. Robocop 2 relied a little too much on action and not enough emotion. Robocop 3 could have been good if they had written a better storyline and script. The story in 3 just did not work out with audiences, and that's why it got such negative reviews. If there ever is a Robocop 4 i hope that they bring back Paul Verhoven, The director of the first. Maybe he can help bring Robocop back to life. The producers could not wait to make sequels and that is why they weren't like the original
