The Conners have always struggled with money — but a financial development in the Roseanne spinoff’s most recent episode probably caught a few longtime viewers off guard.
Season 6, Episode 8 (“Toilet Hacks and the Management Trick”) marked Dan Conner’s 70th birthday. To commemorate the occasion, Dan announced to the family that he was going to start collecting his social security and union pension. “Yep, I beat the system by being poor and living longer than the government thought I would,” he said. (I mean, he lived longer than any of us thought he would, but I digress….)

One of TV’s most popular families may soon be saying goodbye for good.
Currently in its sixth season, The Conners has yet to be renewed or canceled by ABC.
Deadline reports that the Roseanne follow-up has yet to begin negotiating deals with its stars, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Sara Gilbert.
The focus is renewal negotiations between the studio and the network to keep the show on the air for a seventh and final season.
The Conners rose like a phoenix out of the ashes of Roseanne, which was canceled despite a huge reboot season after leading lady Roseanne Barr’s controversial comments about Valerie Jarrett.
The series has been a strong performer for ABC, but could the show seriously be canceled ahead of a pre-planned final season?

Second in a series on broadcast network series renewals. This is a rarity — it’s still mid-April and ABC has already made decisions on all of its existing drama series.
The popular Nathan Fillion cop series The Rookie was the last to get word yesterday with a Season 7 renewal after some intense negotiations with the show’s new lead studio, Lionsgate, which acquired The Rookie producer eOne in December. It joins recently renewed Grey’s Anatomy, 9-1-1 and Will Trent, with The Good Doctor and Station 19 ending their runs.

Actor John Goodman, 71, known for Roseanne and The Big Lebowski, was spotted with a slimmed-down figure at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York. Goodman was with his wife, Anna Beth Goodman this weekend. Goodman has lost a remarkable 200 pounds over the last few years.
Goodman wore khaki pants and a dark green sweatshirt over a blue shirt, while his wife wore a white blouse with dark pants and white sneakers.
Since 2007, Goodman has been working on his health after quitting drinking. The actor worked with a fitness trainer to build an exercise routine and reshape his diet. It was said that Goodman took on a “Mediterranean-style eating plan,” incorporating fish, nuts, olive oil, vegetables and fruits.
Goodman’s exercise routine consisted of working out six days a week, aiming to take 10,000 to 12,000 steps daily with a treadmill or elliptical bicycle.
In 2016, Goodman talked to Howard Stern about his fitness journey.

Tom Arnold has joined the cast of writer, producer, and director Rohit Karn Batra’s drama “The Gun on Second Street.”
The film, for which Storyboard Media launched international sales during last year’s Cannes Film Market, is produced by Guy J. Louthan of Ransom Films with Rikin Shah serving as one of the executive producers.
An allegory of the gun crisis in the United States, “The Gun on Second Street” follows two Pittsburgh police partners and best friends who are called to an uneventful domestic violence dispute on Second Street. This quickly escalates to a violent scuffle as Officer Tj Meadows III accidentally shoots and kills his partner, Officer Kevin Cooper, with his backup gun. Years later, no longer a cop and still traumatized, Tj moves back to Pittsburgh and finds his way to Kevin’s widow, Kacie. Arnold will take on the role of Police Chief Richard “Dick” Steinberger,...

Spoiler Alert! This story contains plot points from Wednesday’s episode of The Conners on ABC.
The Conners celebrated a big milestone — 100 episodes! — by doing what it does best: telling stories about small-town life and reminding folks that it has one of the most experienced ensembles on broadcast TV. Here, executive producers Bruce Helford and Dave Caplan talk about their six-season odyssey and whether it’s time to start planning for a seventh year on ABC.
Deadline: I still remember the day when former ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey abruptly canceled the Roseanne reboot. And now, the spinoff, The Conners, is celebrating 100 episodes.
Dave Caplan: We have a hard time believing that ourselves.
Bruce Helford: There are a couple of milestones. This is the first time to have the whole cast of a show hit the 100-episode milestone twice.
Deadline: Because you are celebrating 100 episodes, did you purposely...

For any television series reaching its 100th episode, looking back is a given, but there aren’t many shows with a 35-year history like ABC’s “The Conners,” the sitcom following the blue-collar family with an affinity for getting knocked down by life’s struggles while making us laugh along the way. “It’s just lucky, I guess,” says John Goodman, who plays patriarch Dan Conner. “Now all of a sudden, it’s 100 episodes. I can’t believe how fast the time went by, but I guess that’s just because I’m getting old.”

A familiar face showed up in The Conners Wednesday (March 13) night when legacy cast member Natalie West returned to the show to reprise her role as Crystal Anderson. Long-time viewers will remember West from Roseanne, where she starred in a total of 59 episodes across the show’s ten seasons. The return of some classic Roseanne actors has come wondering if comedian Roseanne Barr will ever come back to play a role in The Conners.
Barr was the lead of the beloved ABC sitcom bearing her name for nine seasons from 1988 to 1997 along with a revival that saw the actress (along with the rest of the cast) return to the show in 2018.
However, despite plans for more, the Roseanne revival was canceled and the spin-off The Conners was greenlit, coming after Barr's reputation was sullied thanks to some controversial tweets.

The Evansville, Indiana “Roseanne house” is back on the market. The outside was used to establish the location for the Roseanne and The Conners series.
The house is near the University of Evansville at 619 Runnymeade Avenue. The inside looks nothing like the sitcom. Roseanne was created by Evansville native, Matt Williams.
The house was last on sale in 2015.
Listing Agent Dorren Hallenberger claims people have been reaching out about the famous home.
“People wanna know what the inside looks like now since they watched the television show,” said Hallenberger. “People looked at all the interior pictures online so people just to know what’s going on in Evansville, and you know it’s important to the community.”
The home has four bedrooms and two full baths. It is being sold “as is,” although freshly painted with news carpets. See the complete listing here.

“It’s pretty shocking, honestly,” says Sara Gilbert — not about the latest struggle to befall her onscreen alter ego, Darlene Conner, but the fact that The Conners, the spinoff of that groundbreaking sitcom, will soon hit its 100th episode. “I think you never expect to make it that far. I certainly didn’t.” Though the series has been a staple of ABC’s comedy lineup since premiering in 2018, its journey to that celebration is one for the TV history books. After the highly viewed revival of Roseanne (the original aired on ABC from 1988 to 1997) was canceled in 2018 following star Roseanne Barr’s racist tweets, it seemed all hope was gone for the Conners. But you should never count out the resilient blue-collar family, which, thanks to some creative storytelling, would go on to see brighter days — just without its matriarch. (Barr’s absence ...

Tom Arnold was a showbiz joke in the early 1990s.
The unknown actor suddenly became a gossip mag regular in 1990 as Roseanne Barr's publicity-hungry husband. When she brought Arnold in as a writer on her hugely popular sitcom, there was a sense of coattail-riding. When she cast him on the show, and, two years later, convinced ABC to give him his own sitcom, this sense curdled for some into fact. And when several prominent TV critics shredded the series, Barr created a PR crisis by firing off nasty faxes to the naysayers (including a homophobia-tinged screed to USA Today's Matt Roush that brought her bigotry to the fore decades prior to her Trump-era meltdown). It was all terribly ugly. Barr had more than enough Nielsen ratings juice to weather this storm, but Arnold's fame seemed to be nearing its fifteenth minute.

Animation mastermind Seth MacFarlane made a name for himself with the creation of "Family Guy." After working on Hanna-Barbera cartoons like "Dexter's Laboratory" and "Johnny Bravo," MacFarlane would bring his irreverent riff on the animated family sitcom to Fox in 1999. Though the series was initially canceled after three seasons, the show's release on DVD resulted in renewed interest from both audiences and the network, and the show has been running for 22 seasons and counting. Since then, MacFarlane has created several more animated hits, including "American Dad" and the "Family Guy" spin-off "The Cleveland Show," but he's also shifted into both live-action TV and movies, which includes the raunchy buddy comedy franchise "Ted."
"Ted" follows the antics of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a thirty-something who is best friends with a teddy bear that magically came to life after wishing on a magic star when John was just a boy. It might sound family friendly and whimsical,...

The Conners – ABCÕs ÒThe ConnersÓ stars Laurie Metcalf as Jackie Harris. (Disney/Justin Stephens) Through 10 seasons on Roseanne and another six on The Conners, Laurie Metcalf has had plenty of experience playing the character of Jackie Harris, a role that’s earned her five Primetime Emmy Award nominations over the years, including three wins. According to Metcalf, the role has never gotten boring or predictable, though, because the writers and producers have made a habit of throwing the character into a lot of new and sometimes surprising situations. And that, Metcalf said, is part of the reason why she loves playing the character so much (Click on the media bar below to hear Laurie Metcalf) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Laurie_Metcalf-playing-Jackie-quali.mp3 The Conners airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on ABC, and episodes start streaming the following day on Hulu.

Last year, one of The Conners' executive producers said he felt the series may end with season six. An ABC executive later told him, "We didn't agree to that," and indicated the network had no plans to end the show. Could The Conners still come to an end this season, or is it sure to at least be renewed for a seventh season? Stay tuned.

Until the neither disappointing nor remarkable "Frasier" reboot, the beloved sitcom on which it was based had been off the air for almost 20 years. Running from 1993 to 2004, "Frasier" came to represent the gold standard for '90s sitcoms, alongside contemporary hits such as "Friends" and "Seinfeld." A big part of the show's success was that star Kelsey Grammer seemed to have been born to play the titular doctor, portraying his egoism and fastidiousness with the perfect balance of humor and earnestness. But the show was also propelled by a truly stellar supporting cast.
David Hyde Pierce might have thought the script for the "Frasier" pilot was "terrible" at first, but he very quickly realized how well-written the show was and throughout the show's run delivered a consistently brilliant performance as Frasier's equally stuffy brother, Niles. Alongside Peri Gilpin as Frasier's radio producer, Roz, John Mahoney as Frasier and Niles' father,...

The Conners is set to return for its sixth season on Wednesday, February 7, on ABC, and the show’s executive producers have dropped some teases about what fans can expect. First and foremost, Lecy Goranson‘s Becky will continue her newfound romance with FedEx pilot Tyler, played by Sean Astin, who will reprise his Season 5 role. “[Astin’s] in two of the first five episodes, and we’ve got plans for more of him,” executive producer Bruce Helford told TVLine. “It’s really nice because it’s the first time since Mark from the Roseanne days that we’ve really found someone where the chemistry is right for Lecy Goranson and for the Becky character.” These episodes will see Becky introduce Tyler to Dan (John Goodman), Jackie (Laurie Metcalf), Darlene (Sara Gilbert), and, eventually, her daughter, Beverly Rose (Charlotte Sanchez). When Roseanne premiered in 1988, the ABC series offered viewers a bold new take on the traditional family sitcom.
In the era of Full House, The Cosby Show, and Growing Pains, the Conners reminded Americans that not all households are filled with affluent parents imparting valuable life lessons to their grateful, obedient children.
The Simpsons often receives the lion's share of the credit for expanding our notion of what a sitcom family could look like.
But it's worth noting that Roseanne beat Homer and company to the punch when it came to mining comedic gold out of suburban dysfunction.
The show was a critical success right out of the gate, and over the course of its nine-season run, it developed into a reliable ratings juggernaut.
In its second season, Roseanne stunned skeptics by knocking The Cosby Show out of the top spot on the Nielsen charts.

The Conners might not be poised to fade away into the night just yet, contrary to earlier speculation suggesting that the ABC comedy was approaching its conclusion. The notion of the series concluding with Season 6 was initially mentioned by John Goodman, followed by the producers of the Roseanne spinoff in June 2023. “I think we may be coming to an end on it,” Goodman said in June before concluding, “It’s lasted longer than I thought we would.” “Sara Gilbert expressed to the network that we don’t want to go out without knowing that we are going out with a series finale so we can build to the right ending — and at this point in time, we feel that [next season] is possibly going to be the last season of The Conners,” Bruce Helford said. “I would not [say that] definitively because the numbers were so good this season, and we’ve all had a really great time…...

Double Oscar winner George Clooney has become one of the most successful people in his profession but despite family connections (his aunt was the late singer Rosemary Clooney), he struggled for years to make it as an actor.
After dropping out of college, Clooney would try his hand at acting. He struggled for a few years until finding a part on “E/R” in 1984. This wasn’t the “ER” that would make him a star 10 years later, but instead was a short-lived sitcom with the same name. It's been over 10 years since "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane made the jump to the big screen with his feature directorial and writing debut "Ted." In the 2012 comedy, Mark Wahlberg played John Bennett, a grown man stuck in a state of arrested development with his girlfriend Lori (Mila Kunis), because he can't stop smoking weed and screwing around with his best friend, a foul-mouthed teddy bear named Ted (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) that he magically wished to life when he was just a boy.
Of course, by the end of the movie, John realizes that he needs to grow up and become a bit more responsible and salvages his relationship with Lori. However, in 2015, "Ted 2" undid their happy ending, revealing that John and Lori got divorced six months prior to the start of the sequel, and the follow-up focused on Ted's battle in court for the right to have...

The bad news about Peacock’s Ted prequel, also called Ted, is that all of its worst instincts are apparent from the jump. For one thing, its premiere clocks in at 50 minutes — not inherently an unreasonable run time, but a baffling one for a TV outing that otherwise unfolds like a half-hour sitcom. For another, that near-hour is front-loaded with the show’s most self-consciously “offensive” material: hoary jokes about derogatory terms and racist stereotypes, all delivered with a smirk that’s daring you, just daring you, to get outraged by any of it.
But if you can push past the initial tedium, the good (or at least less bad) news about Ted is that the episodes that follow represent a marked improvement. Sometimes, as when it leans on absurdity over abrasiveness or goofiness over saltiness, it’s possible to make out a decent comedy buried in there somewhere. If...

Last year, “The Bear” earned two Golden Globe nominations and won one, Best TV Comedy/Musical Actor for Jeremy Allen White. This year, it received five bids and could win all five, but it’s projected to win three, which would be quite the notable achievement as well. It’s expected to win the three comedy categories — series, lead actor again for White and lead actress for Ayo Edebiri — which would make it the first show to complete the comedy hat trick since “30 Rock” 15 years ago.
Just how rare is this in comedy? You have to back to 1993 for the next instance with “Roseanne.” “The Bear” lost the series award last year to “Abbott Elementary,” which won three prizes from five bids, but the ABC sitcom underperformed this year and swapped nomination hauls with “The Bear,” going down to two. There will be some noticeable changes to The Conners when it returns for its sixth season on Wednesday, February 7, as one of the show’s main cast members is exiting as a series regular.
