Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • The local Jewish temple gets bombed; it is discussed but not seen. Hoke describes in detail his memory of a friend's father getting hung from a tree by racists when he was a boy in Macon, GA.

Profanity

  • The word 'nigger' is used once and there are a few racist or derogatory remarks made towards the Jewish and the Blacks. One use of "I'll be damned.". One "I'll be God-damned." At least six uses of "Oh, my God", "My God", or "Oh, God." One use of "G.D." rather than the whole phrase. One "What the hell."

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Several characters smoke cigarettes throughout the film.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Some very mild domestic conflict. Alabama police confront Hoke, calling him "Boy" and making a show of their authority. Miss Daisy gets worried waiting by the dark roadside while Hoke goes into the woods to "make water", but it turns out fine. Miss Daisy's long-time maid dies (of natural causes); you see her briefly in her coffin at the funeral.
